Boston: One dead, one captured, city re-opened

While things have slowed down, I had Fox News on Sirius in my car earlier and one of the reporters literally said this:

"One thing I'm sure will be discussed after all this is over, is how Watertown feels vulnerable in an event like this and wishes they had guns in their home"

I fucking wat'd so hard

Not directed at you but at the quote.

Yeah, because guns will stop an unidentified package from exploding and causing more damage. Idiots.

EOD bringing in another robot and BearCat (armored truck), two officers dispatched to clear out suspicious person on roof in area.

Whether this is related to the bombings or not, it is quite exciting to listen in to.

Some more 'Muricans struggling to tell the difference between the Czech Republic and Chechnya

How fat and stupid can you be?

They need to Czech their facts

What are the references to robots about?

In class, unable to use live feeds and such.

Is this related to bomb-defusal?

EDIT 141 11:15: They are telling all non-SWAT to leave the area.

EDIT 140 11:14: Subject definitely has some kind of device or switch in his hand.

EDIT 139 11:11: EOD (explosive ordinance disposal) robot is attempting to remove the jacket from the man right now.

EDIT 138 11:07: Been silent, EOD is on scene.

EDIT 137 11:03: To further clarify, guy with the white hat has nothing to do with this (as far as we know). He is still on the loose. This suspect is an old man (60-70) with grey hair and appears to be holding a dead man switch.

who says czechen?

It's not even Czech(en), it's just Czech.

Again, believed it was a misspelling and I've never heard the phrase "Czech people" a lot and they're called "tsjekker" here. I just didn't know about Chechnya so my brained linked it to Czech. When I saw the word cropping up everywhere and Russia and Chechenya mentioned I quickly found out what it was after some reading.

Does your university not normally have public safety that will walk you home?

They do. The uni borders downtown, so a lot of crimes happen. Security is usually spread thin.

Yeah, I've already heard of an attack.

My wife chooses NOW to go to the States for a conference? :(

I'm not a stranger to attacks, but my wife is a recent convert (a few years ago) she hasn't had the pleasures of dealing with rabid conservatives of Indiana like my family did after 9/11.

Shit, why's the old man wearing a (possible) bomb jacket?

Did the suspect make him put it on? Hope it's just a normal jacket and the police being extra cautious

Why did those fucking idiots try to rob a 7-11 store 4 hours after the FBI released photos and videos of them, which was the biggest news story in the country at the time?

Maybe I just answered my own question but still, it's quite peculiar. And why did they go randomly shoot a cop sitting in his car after that? Why would you draw attention to yourself like that, mere hours after your face is all over the international news?

Confused, why is this old man just sitting there and letting them attempt to take the jacket off if he's a possible collaborator? Or am I missing something?

So are they just being safe with the old man, of what could be some health related heart monitor or some shit on him? Or does he actually have an explosive device on him. If so it could totally be related.

This is on point.

Also I think that Imam Shamil has an awesome beard. As does Amir Ibn al-Khateeb.

Lets be honest though, this is just a bit of an opportunity to show off how knowledgeable I am of the region already. Keep it between you and me though okay?

Your comments are irritating me in ways I can't describe.

So we're not going to see this robot action for ourselves? Are the news networks even talking about it? It's unclear to me whether the guy is a terrorist or a victim. And police sound so calm that I can't believe this is what they're in the middle of dealing with.

Oh god this uncle interview on msnbc is both funny and sad.

"they're losers"

They're trying to ask him if the brothers were radicalized etc, he saying Islam has no part in this.

Some reporter (seems to be the same woman voice) is really pushing the radical angle etc.
