They're not. People rag on CNN for jumping the gun all the time, but hey Reddit/somepeopleongaf did the same shit. No one comes out swell from this.

I really feel for the Sunil family, to first lose their son and then to face this sort of internet bullshit.

The difference is that CNN is a multimillion dollar media conglomerate who's job it is to get it right. Reddit is not.

I don't think Reddit comes out of this looking great. 12 hours ago people were saying "OMG Reddit is the new FBI, world will never be the same" when the Brown U story they started was getting traction. In the cold light of day, how are they any better than CNN?

They aren't.

The suspect is an Anzhi fan? Holy shit lol

They arent. They should be ashamed of themselves for associating a student who might possibly be dead with the pieces of shit wreaking havoc across Boston.

No they weren't. It just bubbled up from the internet, it was never on the police scanner. No one heard it, there were like a hundred people listening to it on the thread last night.

They said the missing brown student on the police scanner. Nobody on Neogaf was talking about it until the shootout was over.

It was the police on the scanners who said it was the missing brown student. Reddit posted it a few hours prior as a POSSIBLE suspect and were asking police to look into it.

No sorry, that is bullshit. The police never said that on scanners. Would be happy to be proven wrong if someone provides a recording, but we were all listening to the same thing

This is wrong too. This is the 3rd thread discussing the chase/manhunt

They probably have a bigger audience and moved the needle on this story more than CNN did. But they don't face the same kind of accountability.

thats the people who read and trust reddit's fault then. CNN is worse because being part of the "news" gives them credibility

I live in a huge Russian immigrant area in Philly. Shit will not end well if they keep calling these people Russian.

My boyfriend decided to go to work today in Framingham (about 15-19 miles west of Watertown)
He's a Russian immigrant that has a temp green card and I'm so worried :(. He wanted us to drive to NJ tonight but I told him no. We live a little outside of boston at the moment, but are moving into the city at the end of May. They need to stop just lumping all these countries together as Russia.

Absolutely false. It was said dozens of times in here last night that NO one heard that on the scanners. And a whole truck load of people here were listening (including me)

Silly question but im genuinely curious, is this an actual curfew in effect or a request? Can people go outside or will they be ushered to their homes by police if they are found doing so?

I don't care, I want the guy dead, I hope he's gunned down. I don't want this fuck to burn more expenses of a lengthy trial.

Hell no. We need to go Jack Bauer on his ass and find out who they were working with. No way these two just up and decided to bomb Boston one day all on their own.

They most definitely aren't. Just a mob wielding different kinds of weapons.

News organizations and Internet communities dragged a lot of innocent people through the mud this week. They should leave future criminal investigations to actual law enforcement officers.

How did the 2 brothers get all those guns in the first place?

More reason for universal background checks..and the fact that we remain adamant not to do such a thing is so damn baffling. Enjoy your guns america, while innocent people get slaughtered on the streets.

Would universal background checks have helped here? Unless both had extensive criminal records, they still would have been able to buy those guns. If anything, there needs to a limit on the amount of ammo/guns any one individual is allowed to own, but that's an argument for another thread.

maybe in the echo chamber of twitter but in the real world people are getting their news from CNN/BBC/Fox etc.

CNN's display over the past few days as they regurgitated a lot of the online stuff was embarrassing for everyone.

Nonetheless, they're even less credible than they were before (assuming they even had any creditability to start with)

Of course they have no credibility! It's an internet discussion forum, with a bunch of random people participating in what functionally amounts to a real life ARG. They're not the FBI, will never be the FBI, and anyone writing about them as such should just hang up their pen.

Thank you so much for blocking their faces out (or whoever edited the pics)

As the uncle proves, people associated with them are not necessarily scum and do not deserve to have their faces put out.
