I haven't seen the photo but a few on reddit have been saying the gash in his chest is an incision made by surgeons trying to save his life. Thoracic something or other.

Thread is going crazy fast. I'm lost on some things.

Are the suspects from Russia? I also heard they are of the Muslim faith? Are they Muslim Russians? Sorry, I just woke up and trying to make sense of everything I heard within the last few minutes.

like 3 posts above your's at the start of every single page.

Yes muslims of chechan ethnicity but we dont know if radical fundamentalism was the motivator or just insanity

Is this guy still really not caught yet?

yea it's pretty unbelievable. i'm starting to feel that they are not going to catch him at all. what happens then, if he's just simply gone? when will the search be called off? maybe he offed himself somewhere where he wont be found for weeks or months..

The wrong lesson is being learned. It's not just reddit or 4chan or GAF or the internet or CNN. It's the general desire to know everything as it breaks and to become an instant expert on the story and to feel like you're helping and to feel like you're a part of something and to have to know the next shocking twist. It's human nature to get excited about this stuff, but it's our failure that we don't conquer that nature by calming ourselves and wait for actual news to come out. If people really want to learn a lesson from this, it's that they should check out entirely, advocate slow journalism, don't reward groups for breaking up-to-the-minute details or indulge in them, and read long-form summaries at the end of it all.

Not likely.

Right, though I think the real problem here is the internet adding a massive amplification effect to everything. When OJ Simpson was in that Bronco being chased around LA, and everyone was watching with bated breath, it might have been a little embarrassing for what it said about us as human beings, but it didn't have the same kinds of knock-on consequences (arguably the way the trial turned into a circus was a consequence, but I'd say that came more from the notoriety/celebrity aspect than in-the-moment idiocy). No one was zooming in on the driver's face and looking him up on the Facebooks and harassing his family etc etc.

My takeaway here is not necessarily that people must check out entirely (although that might be a good idea), but that people should at least rein themselves in: not try to figure everything out themselves, not pass on everything they hear anywhere, and not, especially not, act on what they hear or enable others to act on what they've heard. If you aren't signal, you are noise. And you almost certainly aren't signal.

A controlled detonation of something they found. Now arrests. Searches will continue throughout the weekend.

Nice excuse to lockdown and do a house by house search throughout a large portion of Boston.

Could one refuse entry in this situation claiming violation of constutional rights? I'm not American so I don't know how that works.

New car information now--green Honda Civic.

That picture of the dead body seems like bullshit. Guy was in a lot better shape than that. Also they say he was wounded by uncountable gunshots, explosion device, and got ran over. He ran head on into cops gunfire.

Could had older brother had forced the younger brother into this? Now the younger brother is running away, panicking batshit crazy?

So driving from campus I just listen to 40 minutes of this journalist talking about how her nephew knew the younger brother, and then he was invited to the show and talked a lot about how he seemed like the most decent guy, and also talked a lot about their school. Weird since it seemed like the a way promote the school.

BBC showing this on their live text feed on their site:

1850: Meanwhile, the New York Times and CBS News report that Dzhokhar, his mother and father became naturalised US citizens last year. Tamerlan was reportedly in the middle of the process.
1848: NBC News and AP report Tamerlan Tsarnaev travelled to Russia last year through New York and stayed there six months. There is no record of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev leaving the country
