Disney has cast "Game of Thrones" actor Richard Madden in the role of the Prince in its upcoming live-action movie "Cinderella," the company said Wednesday.

Madden, who plays Robb Stark in HBO's hit dragons-and-swords fantasy series, joins a cast that includes Cate Blanchett as the wicked stepmother. "Wrath of the Titans" and "Downton Abbey" actress Lily James is playing the title role.

Kenneth Branagh is directing the film. Producing duties are being handled by Alli Shearmur and Simon Kinberg.

In before someone inadvertently places spoilers in the thread. Spoiler marks for the TV crowd please?

The shoe fits

That cast is oddly heavy hitting for just a Cinderella movie.

Shouldn't be a problem, other HBO actors have managed to do movies while filming shows. Especially because Game of Thrones doesn't take a lot of time per character so we should probably still see him a lot. (Peter Dinklage is doing X-Men at the moment for instance)

She is awful. I HATED her in Downton Abbey and this sounds stupid.
Cate Blanchett as the wicked stepmother? Might watch...

Hmm. I'm sure we'll see Madden and other cast members in different media in the years to come. Just look at what happened with Band of Brothers.

And I didn't know about Dinklage and X-Men.

Does he have enough free time on his hands with this and GOT?
Game of Thrones takes 10 months to prepare, but the filming itself is fairly limited. Charles Dance did all his season 2 scenes in two weeks. Even a more main character like Robb Stark should be able to shoot in 1-2 months, and another 1-2 for the movie. He'd have 8 months for promotion stuff if everything goes smoothly.

Okay, I deleted all those posts and gave a VERY lenient ban for the offenders. Let's not go down that road. Keep this on topic.

He should be quite good for the role, fits the stereotype prince quite well
Can't remember Lily in Downton at all though

I actually really like his actor (even if the show has fucked up alot of his potential scenes) but can't imagine actually intentionally seeing a live action cinderella movie.

I thought he's been doing pretty well in more recent episodes. Though yeah I do agree I don't think I could bring myself to sit through a Cinderalla movie.

Yeah it was the changes to the timeline of certain actions that really bothered me.

When was the last time Disney made a live action fairy tale movie? Were they involved in one of those 2 snow white movies last summer? I saw neither of them but heard they were both horrifically bad.

The Hillary Duff one was quite fun as a romantic comedy so it can work, but on the other hand Disney's fairytale turned live-action movies aren't that good.

Depending what you count: Alice in Wonderland or Enchanted.

Dink probably has a more prominent role in GOT and yet he's doing quite a few movies still, so this won't affect his GOT time.

Enchanted was great. But it was helped by the fact that they could do their own thing and play with all the fairy tale cliches.

Hope this doesn't take away from his commitment/screen time to Game of Thrones, just finished Season 1. So good!

there's a live action Cinderella on the way? they're really chasing that Alice in Wonderland money aren't they... ugh

Live action Disney Cinderella?

Does this mean the talking mice and other animal friends will be CGI or some creepy animatronics?
