Well I hope the presentation is densely packed. I fear we're not going to get a very large glimpse at games.

Sony's presentation seemed to be pretty packed as well and that was two hours long.

Somehow I think they're only going to give a brief overview of new features and kinect 2.0 without really going too much into the technical specs. I fear that we won't know much more than what we already know now, which would be horrible.

Aaron Greenberg says event will be small... So I expect the size of say... The surface unveil.

Its invite only and only big news / relevant news are invited. It's not going to be grand scale

I really doubt they have huge conference halls at Xbox campus

What I'm getting at is that the games will be the without a doubt, where MS will set itself apart is Live and other stuff. And I think they can deliver.

How? I mean, Sony showed off tons of social features for their console, Vita is already extremely well integrated and has unique social features as well that Live doesn't have.

I guess I just don't see what Microsoft can do on this front that's somehow substantially better than what Sony is bringing to the table.

I think they're going to make an aggressive attempt at having a common windows 8 software platform across multiple devices, including Durango, but that's not something that I would consider to be much of a positive. It fits a corporate agenda, but perhaps at the expense of a better, console-specific UI.

See I thought Sony's was at minimum an hour too long. For me I think 1 hour is indeed short but maybe 1.5 would be perfect leaving that last 30 minutes to have maybe 1-2 special briefings without random blathering like the Sony one.
I do feel 1 hour is short as hell.

Xbox Live was huge. Hardly vanilla. 360 changed the gaming industry when it comes to achievements. The indies store. XBLA. They led. Sony spent an entire generation following, copying, and catching up. You don't play catchup in so many areas when your competition is vanilla.
I always just kind of felt they took more evolutionary steps rather the revolutionary. When you're only other competition in the "core" console market is Sony, it's pretty easy to look really forward thinking in comparison. Either way, I probably did take most of those advances the 360 took for granted.

Sony is finally looking to change that.

Didn't see too much random blathering at the Sony presser. Only filler material happened during House's intro and outro, but everything in between was pretty densely packed. Cerny's presentation in particular was richly detailed, and that was followed up with a LOT of content from first and third party publishers.

They were. Sony had a good hour show. Unfortunately it also included an hour of crap. The only way Microsoft can have a better show (content-wise) is if they spend the entire hour not messing around. I don't see them doing that. It's not in their nature to not waste time talking about past successes etc etc.

Man oh man I have to disagree there. Random guys saying they would have announcements at E3, random showings of old engines. Lots of filler to me and if fucking MS do something like it they will deserve the same vile:)

Agreed. Sadly MS and Sony are at the very height of their own ego's despite any little attempts to appear otherwise and you bet MS will fucking blab on about something stupid.

Caveat to these comments. My own personal thoughts is that these guys should VERY clearly identify times to talk JUST about games and nothing else and just about services and NOTHING else. They spend too much time patting themselves on the back here and there and mentioning a ton of stuff at random times. The meetings start to feel disjointed.

I won't apologize for liking the Xbox UI, but part of the excitement is that we know nothing about the OS for this. It could be anything.

In the end, I just want to see new stuff :)

I'd say that was fairly minor in the grand scheme of things, filler maybe constituted 30 minutes at most.

And I wouldn't be surprised if MS didn't have their own filler...these companies always do. But 30 minutes of filler for a 2 hour presser isn't as bad as 30 minutes of filler for an hour show.

Like I said, I fear that we will not get concrete specs.

I hope this reveal is nothing like the 360 one where they just throw a bunch of D-list celebrities out there and hope that convinces us to buy it.

:( :'( lmao I found out my final exam is on the 21st
Bleh smh

It's at 11 am though so I will rush out in 10 minutes B^)

Nah I'll probably finish at 12:30 ish so I'll be ready for 1 pm :D

Let's goooooo

There was nothing evolutionary in what MS did. They took the reigns and hauled ass. They had to considering the competition.

I remember getting Xbox and saying to myself that every console had to have hard drives, every console had to have two sticks and two triggers. Fast forward to 360 and every console had to be online and had to have friends lists, cross party chat, achievements, leader boards. Everything had to be seamless and had to feel like the second I started a game I wasn't cut off from the rest of the world.

Microsoft changed gaming so much, its really not hard to see how much influence they have had

There you go.

1.5 hours. We are in agreement:)

I admit I just want them both to get this shit out.

It's really amazing to me there are so few of us actually hyped for the 21st, at least on these boards. I know a ton of people IRL who are hyped as hell for this, in fact 5 people at my work are taking off the 21st lol

Hell even my Mom asked me about it the other day (she knows gaming stuff just because of me growing up in her house) what this new Xbox thing was because she saw an ad for it on TV.

I think MS best console advancements were bringing some of the best aspects of PC gaming to consoles.

Is anyone expecting Microsoft to throw a wrench in the hardware setup, breaking the HD Twins curse?

Isn't this a normal thing? The twins curse? Most consoles were pretty similar most gens I thought, with minor differences. PS1 and the Xbox being the only real standout powerhouses in their gens.

I find it even stranger how quiet Microsoft has been about this. Just a quick little blurb when they announced the event. No teaser and barely any hyping from employees. It's really odd. You'd think they want to get the hype train going a bit more. I fear that this event is just going to be a big tease to get things going before E3.

Microsoft is in a completely different stratosphere than Sony when it comes to constructing an OS. It won't be hard to be better than Sony in this regard. Again, Sony spent a generation trying to match what Microsoft had day 1 on the 360, and still couldn't do it. They made nice strides, but just look at their new store. Abysmal in layout and implementation. They need help. This is something I hope they show off a lot at E3, but they might not if it's not 100 percent locked down yet. The only way they'll be on equal footing in this regard is if MS changed nothing from the 360. I doubt that will be the case. But who knows where their focus really is. They're sending all kinds of different (and often weird) messages.

I hope this reveal is nothing like the 360 one where they just throw a bunch of D-list celebrities out there and hope that convinces us to buy it.

Holding it on the MS campus hopefully precludes that from happening.

Getting together with friends for a reveal party - did the same for Sony's event too. We're a bunch of gaming geeks, lol.

How? What franchises do you like and what makes you like them better than those of Sony & Nintendo? I'm not having a fuss here, just genuinely curious. Those of my friends with XBox only play Halo and Gears, so I feel like there are under the radar games I'm missing.

edit: that "how" sounded snarky, sorry about that :P

It's all good. I really like the Gears franchise, I like the Halo franchise (haven't played 4 yet though), I really love the Alan Wake franchise, I think Rare is still going to do good things (they haven't done anything to prove otherwise), I loved Forza Horizon, not to mention the dozens and dozens of XBLA games like Splosion Man, Mark of the Ninja, Gemoetry Wars 2, etc. , not to mention some retail games I'm forgetting.

Then of course there's the other stuff: I have never had a bad experience with Live (I think it's better in every way except the cost and that PS + has free games; faster downloads, cross-chat, download-speeds, etc.), I loved a lot of the timed (be it through circumstance or deal) exclusives that the 360 had earlier on in its life-cycle like Bioshock and Mass Effect, and I really like the controller more than the DS3 (The DS3 isn't bad by any stretch of the imagination but the 360's controller is nearly perfect). Not to mention all of my friends are on there, and in general most of the big online focused games like CoD or sports titles are biggest on 360.

What's funny is that Microsoft didn't like their OS so they completely remade it. Twice.

I'm off monday/tuesday. So I can watch it

Unless I get the position I put in for. The future is uncertain!
Just call off day 1. They'll understand lol :p

Priorities and all!

Maybe I'll throw a random 1 hour meeting on my work calendar at 2pm that day :p

Getting together with friends for a reveal party - did the same for Sony's event too. We're a bunch of gaming geeks, lol.

I am in a VERY MS dominated area so it was just 2 of us for the Sony presser but the nerds will be a-gathering for the MS one:) Its always fun to see this stuff together. Even more fun to tease sometimes haha.

Exactly! Which I loved personally. Nothing ground breaking in my opinion though.

I have to disagree with you. It was ground breaking in the console space. MS had a very western point of view towards gaming, and it showed in the consoles, games and eco systems they built. If it weren't for MS I suspect console multiplayer wouldn't nearly as huge as it is today.

edit-

I think MS will have this presentation be straight forward and to the point. They have had 3 months since the Sony show to see what people liked and what they didn't and I am sure they took notes. My hope is that they will have rehearsed this presentation to death and not a minute will be wasted (I don't count Kinect or Entertainment features as wasted)

For better or worse I think the presentation will be extremely polished.

Xbox 360 and PS3 was the first time you could have 2 consoles ports that look & run exactly the same.

I'm sure you'll hear a lot about design guidelines for the TV app experience at BUILD 2013.

The UI, yes, but I'm speaking more about stuff like quick title updates, games that play immediately upon downloading them. A demo for every single XBLA release. Forcing broadband only. I have a problem calling what they did with the 360 vanilla when they've literally changed the game and forced Sony to advance much quicker than they ever would have.\

Sony's response to this event

Sony's response is to troll the Xbox reveal thread? Does Sony want to get banned?

"Hi everyone and welcome to MS. Here is our system(shows box) here are our games(Says number and shows a bunch. Oh and here are the new services and price. Questions?"

And they answer questions from the press for 30 minutes. That would be insane and ballsy. Just lay it out there. However, NO COMPANY would ever do that. But if they did damn.

Xbox and Gamecube. Genesis and SNES (for the most part).

What... actually showing their console?

I am hoping they do it like the surface unveil. That was a pretty damn awesome unveil despite being in a fairly intimate venue and being very short.

You cut out a lot of BS, talk about what people want to hear, don't go into charts and don't go into full detail- save that for the hands on.

The more you have to show, the more excited your user base will be.

What's funny is that Microsoft didn't like their OS so they completely remade it. Twice.

They remade it, but they had no choice. Navigating content is a big issue when you launch in 2005 and you never expected marketplace content to get so big. Sony rebuild their store a few times, MS's store IS the dashboard, so they kept changing it. After watching blade and NXE videos last week, the current dashboard is still the best they've had, especially with global search. There is still room for improvement tho.

Here are our koisks. Have fun with our titles. You have 1 hour to play games. Come get us at the bar we will be doing shots.

I agree that they made a big impact, I just disagree on them really stepping out and doing something different. I don't think they did anything that was too surprising. I'll give them major points on achievements system though, no pun intended. I couldn't care less about a achievements personally, but that was a fantastic move on their part.

For what I'm looking for, I do really like what they have done up to this point. What Microsoft has done with their consoles has tailored to me pretty well.

What's funny is that Microsoft didn't like their OS so they completely remade it. Twice.

Yeah, that's what I really like. The blades were really innovative and amazing, but they weren't afraid to do something radical and make it even better in the end.

I was on GAF during the 56k/broadband fiasco

Man were people pissed. They were cursing at how much they would fail- it was hilarious stuff.

Microsoft tends to go against the grain a lot more than people realize. Huge bets and potentially huge payoffs.

Yep. COD: Ghosts and maybe 1 or 2 other games shown and the rest saved for E3.

It's a hardware event and unlike Sony, with their super long 2hr conference, I suspect MS will actually focus mostly on the hardware with a brief glimpse of what the games look like running on it; but with the majority saved for the 'main event'.

Well those aren't really franchises they've had one game each, aside from ME and that downloadable AW spin off. I class a franchise as a running series of games, hence the reason I didn't list stuff like Heavy Rain, Warhawk, Folklore ect for Sony. I did forget Motorstorm however - 3 games, not a great series IMO though.

Pretty sure almost all of the games he listed were franchises. Like every single one of them. Even an XBLA Alan Wake game is another entry into a franchise.

MS knows how to put enough content in a shorter period of time.

Seeing it's going to be on Spike, you'd imagine (hope?) it'll be a well run and fast paced show. The normal dithering about stage that happens at E3 is mega awkward on a live TV show.

It's the best they've had given the amount of content they now have to put a UI on. They don't need those stupid Allstate, McDonalds etc ads in the bottom corner, but the actual content ads are great. Love the integration of store and my content. Especially the speed. I hope they dont drop that next gen.

Seems negativity is a bit of a trend for Xbox consoles pre-release, lol.
