Question: Preorders from Flubit.

Do they take the money the moment you place the order, or later on near release when they find out the game is (ready to be) dispatched?

I see, thanks. I've never done it so I wasn't sure.

Btw I think I recognise your username from the My Owl Software blog. A fellow Apple Jack fan?

Actually he's not right, you have seven working days to 'inspect' the item and that definitely includes removing it from it's packaging and giving it a go (so long as you don't cause any harm to it obviously).

To explain, the reason for this is that in a shop you would be able to inspect the item, but that is obviously not possible when all you get is a shitty jpeg on a website.

This must be the Starter Pack...

Looks Plasticky As All Hell!!

I have one of these, the accessories are piffle, but the USB cable is useful if you've yet to invest in a 3DS XL charger.

The armour case just about does the job of protecting the console but bit useless for anything else as all it has is a simple pouch on the other side. I picked this up because at launch the XL didn't exactly have a lot of case options thanks to the"surprise! we're releasing this in a month!" announcement.

Really ought to get a better case sometime soon that can store games properly and stuff.

Yeah, I was sort of wrong. What I said only applies to certain things, though software is one of them and I think a shop would probably argue that any 3DS that came bundled with software would count as "software" if it was opened and thus wouldn't accept a return.

PS Vita WIFI only, preowned for £124.99. Anyone have experience with their preowned handhelds? If it isn't in good shape, what are exchange options? Bought a used PS3, which was fine, but I'm more concerned about screen... Or any better deals floating around? Would buy a memory card elsewhere.

I'm currently selling one cheaper with a memory card, if you're interested. If so, I can take some photos tomorrow.

Sweden GAF: Elgiganten will be selling Nintendo 3DS XL for 1300 SEK. Not a bad deal. I'm not in a hurry to upgrade even if the offer is very tempting.
Thanks for that. Will that deal run for 24 hours starting tomorrow (Friday)?
This puts me in a bit of a situation as I just bought a regular 3DS for 800 SEK. It's sitting unopened at a friend's place, so now I'm considering whether I should return that one and get the XL from Elgiganten for "just" 500 SEK more. On the one hand, the XL seems vastly superior in just about every way. On the other hand, I'm not sure how much I'll use my 3DS (I've got a huge backlog on Vita, PS3 and PC) - so considering that, taking a chance and buying something that may or may not end up collecting dust for 800 SEK seems more reasonable than doing the same for 1300. Hmmm..

Haha, yeah, pretty big fan...

I can vouch for that! He set up threads for the second game when it came out and is one of very few people to have completed the first game before a patch made it easier.

On topic, Beyond: Two Souls Special Edition preorder: £37.98 @ Zavvi

Hmmmm preordered with shopto, do I trust Zavvi to get it to me within a month of launch?

I wouldn't.

never heard of this game?

why is this game so cheap? is it any good?
We won't know until October, haha. It's a 3D platformer developed by a small team within Media Molecule so there's a pretty good chance it should be good.

Ordered Uncharted 3: GOTY from Zavvi and it only took two days to arrive, which has never happened before. What is this sorcery!?

It's called
luck
. I'm still waiting for my Fire Emblem preorder from them. Was supposedly dispatched on April 17th.

The wireless 360 controller looks very tempting, but how is the battery life on it? Will it go through AA batteries at a rate that makes me wish I saved £10 and got the wired version?

Instore at PC World at the moment they have the transforming d-pad wireless controller with a play&charge kit for £32.99

(Well, they did the other day, anyway)

My Pokemon Typing game arrived today. The keyboard is actually quite substantial, the keys have a nice amount of travel in them, and the only Nintendo branding on it is embossed on the back, from the front it just looks like a standard keyboard. It runs on AA batteries, two of which are included, and works really well with my phone - though if you have SwiftKey, be sure to set it up so the Space bar always produces a space, otherwise you may run into problems with some apps. The game also comes with a fold-out stand, which is intended for use with the DS but is exactly the right size to hold a smartphone in portrait mode - it has rubber grips on the bottom and is very stable when in use.

To pair the keyboard with your phone or tablet:

  1. Insert the batteries but don't turn the keyboard on yet
  2. Enable Bluetooth on your phone and start scanning
  3. While holding down Fn, turn the keyboard on
  4. The keyboard should appear in the list of devices, tap it
  5. A code should appear
  6. Type the code using the number keys on the keyboard, then press Enter
  7. Your keyboard is now paired with your phone

That's pretty cool, does it work with the PS3 and/or PC?

Thank you very, very much Sir! Just Ordered all three! What about Justice for All? I cannot seem to find a good price for that game (if it is even available!)

If you run into Japanese copies of the game for cheap, you may as well grab one of those. The JP versions of the Phoenix Wright trilogy include the English localization.

Having never played a Phoenix Wright game I'm gonna dive in and buy one of those games, got any recommendation about which one is good for a first-timer?

The first one. This question feels kinda dumb since they're story driven games and the stories connect between the games in the Phoenix Wright trilogy. You could also start with Apollo Justice - it kinda rewrites the character of Phoenix Wright and has a different main character (and other cast).

It's got bluetooth so it'll work with anything that's got bluetooth compatability or an adapter for it, it's not locked in any way so long as you have that, your golden - it also looks quite nice, IMO it almost looks like an apple product

^Nope.

And not all releases of the JP games have English text. I think for one of them at least it's only in the Greatest Hits release.

Recommend playing them all in order. Apollo adds some interest story elements to Phoenix that you won't really appreciate/hate without not seeing his previous state. And aside from that, you would also miss out on how cool Edgeworth is.

I can't remember who it was, but they were having problems with Flubit sending them the wrong game, and even after returning it, they sent the wrong game again.

Well, I've just received the wrong game, but it's actually to my benefit.

Last week I bought Hyperdimension Neptunia Mk2 for £17.59 from Zavvi (been waiting forever for this game to come down from it's almost £40 price everywhere)
But once that turned up, I thought really I should get Hyperdimension Neptunia and play that, then Mk2 and finally Victory.

So, I submitted a £15.99 from wowhd demand into Flubit and they came back with an offer of £13.91 - Ordered.

It turned up today, but it wasn't Hyperdimension Neptunia in the Envelope but instead I received Victory from Grainger Games with a receipt for £29.99.

Now to get the first game for realz

Flubit are starting to annoy me now. Either they have automated systems that don't work properly, or can't find a good price on Tearaway and don't want to admit it.

First try - ShopTo's £22.85 - Rejected because it "wasn't clear what product you wanted from the URL" - the URL linked direct to Tearaway, which is only on one platform. Can't get much clearer.

Second try - resubmitted ShopTo deal - finally get an offer for around £19.

While I'm considering this, Zavvi drop the price to £19.99, so I decide to submit that to see if Flubit's price will be < £19.

Third try - Zavvi at £19.99 - rejected because "the product must be in stock and available for home delivery" - it's clearly a pre-order, and plenty of other people seem to have had pre-orders processed fine by Flubit - Zavvi, having no shops left, clearly have home delivery as their only option.

Fourth try - resubmitted Zavvi deal - rejected again for the same reason.

Tried contacting their support twice on Twitter before I resubmitted the deals, they didn't reply to me.

Frustrating.

I've had issues with Tearaway too but I had a failed preorder for something else because they can't do stuff that's not being released within the next two months.

I'd imagine Beyond will have a similar issue if people put it through Flubit.

My first Flubit order came in, GT5 Academy Edition for £8.38. I only placed the ordered on Wednesday and it's arrived Friday morning, that's great service. The only downside is that game is an Italian copy, but it's fitting since the phrase "gran turismo" originated from there.

I haven't tried it but it really is a standard bluetooth keyboard, it works great with my phone so I don't imagine there'd be any problems with any other bluetooth device. It's about the same size as the Apple Wireless Keyboard but it's thicker and made of plastic rather than metal. It doesn't feel flimsy though, and as mentioned the keys have enough travel for relatively speedy typing - I made use of it to take notes during an Airship Pirates tabletop RPG session yesterday evening, worked great.

LOL how is this already a classic? It's been seven months.

I think anything that's sold over a million qualifies.

Seems to be a lot of little compromises with this service. Like you're never 100% sure what you're gonna receive!

Tried a couple of out of stock GAME items on Flubit but got no offers from them (FF13-2 limited edition and BioShock 1+2 Ultimate Rapture Edition).

Managed to get a reduced offer using Blockbuster's Max Payne 3, which was £7.98 at the time, so getting it for £6.83, and Yakuza 3, which is still on the site for £1.99. Already own the game but figure that it's a decent cheap gift for £1.70 now. Took a while for them to give me an offer on Yakuza 3, though. Went past the 48 hours time the gave me, but it's offered now.

Didn't know it was a trilogy, gonna go ahead and buy the first game then.

Bear in mind that the second game in the trilogy is missing there, so when you finish the first game, make sure to track that one down.

The series goes:

(Main trilogy)
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Justice For All
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Trials & Tribulations

(Set several years after the trilogy, and stars a new protagonist)
Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney

(Spinoffs of a character in the trilogy, set around the same time)
Miles Edgeworth: Ace Attorney Investigations
Miles Edgeworth: Ace Attorney Investigations 2 (only released in Japan)

You should definitely play them in order (though swapping Apollo Justice and Miles Edgeworth doesn't matter too much).
