Yes, in a way. It didn't match the sales or cultural significance of Halo, but the affect it had on other games (even in different genres) was massive. There've been so many games this gen that clearly took inspiration or straight out copied mechanics and features from the Gears games.

Quantum...cough...Theory...cough..

I'm curious about this rumored zombie launch game. I hope its more Dead Island and less Fortnight.

And yay for no leaks! I hope to be blown away, I have a gif for the occasion. I'll post it as soon as the OT is up.

I had a dream it was similar to Left 4 Dead but it had Zombie Dinosaurs, and each level had a different zombie type.

I so want a Zombie Dino Crisis :(

Please please! :D

Kameo is definitely beautiful on an HDTV but it was Fight Night 3 for me that made me go WOW even on a SDTV, same goes for GOW, doesn't matter where you play it.

Fight Night 3 was out the day I got my HD tv and forgot to switch the 360 to HD. So I was playing it and STILL amazed. Then about 6 hours later I found out I hadn't switched the back of the 360.

It was an OH SHIT moment.

I saw Fight Night 3, and that's when I decided to get a 360.

Hahah I did something similar. That was a definitive next gen moment for sure

What? Where do you see this Cthulu fellow?

Ooooooooh.... There he is. Took me a while to spot him.

Had to look hard and close.

It was a bit embarrassing as my pals had already left for the day and were already duly impressed. But I had to call a couple of them back and say...OH crap man NOW look at it. Embarrassing but a good embarrassment.

Pretty cool when you realize that the OG xbox version was already pretty awesome.

An odd game but next gen hit me when I saw the first new FIFA on 360. Even with the awful glow around the players, it was clearly a step up.

Then when I got my HDTV and played the first games for each system was the real kicker. Now whenever I see standard def and become a picture resolution snob.

Avatar worked! Thanks again.

Was there a rumor that Epic had a Nextbox launch game? Couldn't that and the zombie game both be Fortnight? Probably not, but it's an interesting thought.

Leopard doesn't change its spots :P
But it can hide in the brush and wait...stealthily for its time to STRIKE!

My first next gen game ever was Gun.
NOT a great start. The game was good but it was basically just the Xbox version with the smallest of fixes.

I don't know. Everything I have read seems to point to a slightly more distanced relationship with MS this go around. I could be wrong but its fairly fucking silent.

Condemend 1 still stands as the best horror FPS on consoles. To see it bettered would be a glorious day, but it'll be no mean feat.

Agreed, MS really do need to take more risks again. I can understand their decision to fall into safe IPs, but their output towards the start of this generation was great. Viva Pinata, Halo Wars, Crackdown, etc. All were bigs risks and while they didn't pay off as much as they'd have hoped, they did bring some much needed diversity to the lineup.

Yep it was a nice surprise damm shame they ruined what made the first game so scary in the sequel.

As for the rest if those games would have come out now they would have done a lot better sadly especially games like Viva Piñata.

And of course one of my faves this gen Nuts and Bolts a game that should have been supported by gamers instead it got sneered at because it wasn't a traditional platformer. People came to realise that games true charm much too late. :(

I totally agree and on one hand I'm getting hyped for the system just thinking of what it may be with some best case scenarios (Crackdown 3 getting the budget and attention that deserves, getting a new action/adventure game by Rare, games like Devil's Third possibly being an exclusive, Lost Odyssey 2 being a possibility e.t.c.) but on the other hand I'm down to reality and fearing that MS may go too safe on the software side.

I guess we'll find out soon where MS is going with Durango...don't let us down Don. ^_^

Totally the right idea to bet on safe.

If Microsoft will show the interactive TV at the event, and the new Xbox 360, I hope it don't take more than 20 minutes.

I don't think anything besides games and general OS stuff will be more than 15 minutes. There's a lot of stuff to cover in an hour.

EDIT: With that said, I'm VERY interested in seeing the TV stuff.

I don't want to interact with my TV beyond FF, Pause, Rewind, Play. People are running away from Cable/Satellite. Not towards them. I hope I'm completely misreading what their plans are, but if it involves interacting with cable TV...snooooooze. Nintendo tried that with TVii. If they've signed contracts to allow ala carte channel purchases, I'm onboard.
