Done with Anime?

YAWN

Ask me which Shakespeare novel is best
Anyone else felt this way?
I've realized the industry has kinda gone down the shitter. Everything is more or less the same moe shite. And now, looking back, I realize the series I did like (One Piece, Bleach, Toriko, .etc) weren't all that great either.
I just got bored of the same cardboard cut out characters, predictable "friendship is power" bullshit, silly, childish sweat drops and bulging crosses indicating the characters emotions, tropey personalities that aren't at all realistic, and which, sadly, most characters are defined by, and the fact that all these complaints are in more or less any Anime production.

I guess it might be due to me getting into classics such as The Count of Monte Cristo and such, but Anime just doesn't do it for me anymore. That, and, apart from a minority, the fans really get on my nerves with the "waifu", "kawaii", "sugoii" shite. I wanted to separate myself from that crowd, and have succeeded in doing so, and, in retrospect, I'm so happy that I did. Not that ever used terms like "waifu", but if your an Anime fan in general, the general public are gonna band you with that crowd anyway.

I guess I just wanted to know if anyone else jumped ship and were happy in doing so?
Of course, I won't let the Anime aesthetic stop me from playing decent games, like Pokemon, Dragon Quest, Zelda, and Final Fantasy, but that's purely from a gameplay standpoint.

There's too much of it to watch, I feel like when I'm watching one Anime I'm missing out on another one. The time invested in them is too much for me and I fell out of Anime entirely around 2011.

Not really "done", it's just that every anime I followed turned out to be based on a manga with better art and no fillers. So...

I was never into anime in a way that I would watch a lot average shows. I've always watched just a select few movies by certain directors and not many modern shows. Mainly the high quality stuff.

I guess the only "modern" stuff I've seen are the newest Ghibli, IG and Kon productions.

Watch Cowboy Bebop.

Then never watch anime ever again ('cept the Ghibli films, naturally).

I just get tired of all the pandering, it's just so prevalent in anime that I feel drowned by it.
Most of the time it's either I have the choice of watching an anime that's aimed at children, or the other being ecchi all over the place. I did like One Piece as I got into that recently, but you can tell it's being dragged out now just because it's popular so I'm losing interest.

I would like to find more anime that isn't designed for people without self control in mind.

You see, I never over indulged or let it come something that could be 'quit' I just watch a few shows a year and refrain from generalizing.

There's more to anime today than just One Piece on one end and K-On on the other. Expand your horizons and I'm sure you'll find something that will tingle those tastebuds.

It's like me dismissing the film industry because all I saw was Transformers and Madagascar.

There's a lot of better shows out there than the ones you mentioned, and there always have been.

The trick is not to watch average and worse shows just because they're anime. Just because you like some anime, you don't have an obligation to keep up with a bunch of mediocre garbage, as a lot of fans do.

It was amazing when I first discovered anime and watched series's like GitS, Great Teacher Onizuka, Cowboy Bebop and few other great ones. Then in a couple of years of watching anime, I realized that most of it was really crap and I was just watching the few good shows that had accumulated over the years.
Good anime is few and far between. It's sad, because i like watching good anime :(

When the anime industry keeps bringing us good shit like Little Witch Academia, Hyouka and Aku no Hana (all very recent examples) I just don't see myself quitting this hobby any time soon.

There are a lot of really good older shows that have recently been licensed. Give a watch for some of the things over at www.animesols.com if you're looking for something a little more classic. Furthermore, good shows exist that you might have passed on in your younger days. Take Monster for example. That's a show that I could see someone who is 21 being incredibly bored by that is absolutely fantastic beyond what is currently popular (a lot of which is indeed otaku pandering).

I understand the idea of "growing out" of anime, but not everything is like One Piece, Naruto and Bleach. Having said that, the majority of the convention attending fandom are completely terrible. You are totally right in that.

You need to watch better stuff. I'm not gonna lie and say the industry is getting better, but it's one of the most diverse entertainment mediums, so there's bound to be something you like.

Try:
Shiki (horror)
Xam'd Lost memories (INCREDIBLE SOUNDTRACK + great characters)
Nodame Cantabile (Funny + classical music)
Usagi Drop (heartwarming)
Chihiyafuru (Japanese card game, Shounen/Josei fusion)
Girls und Panzer (fun)

Theres also the NeoGAF anime of the year awards for last year: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=510801

If you want to watch something airing now, every week Shingeki no Kyojin is out. It's the anime equivalent of a summer blockbuster.

Even the long running shows OP is watching are the wrong choices. No mention of Gintama? For shame OP, for shame.

Nope. I used to be a fan of anime and that has passed long time ago, but I still watch plenty of shows. I just treat anime as any other media genre, same as books, comics, tvs or movies - if a story interests me I will watch it. I don't care if characters in it are animated, played by a real actors or if they're just letters on a page.

i was done with Anime for years ..

then i read about Hajime no Ippo on this forum .. whaaaa AMAZING Anime about Boxing but also overall great in quality and story - also more or less no filler or constant staring!

the show is also giving me a great boost in fighting spirit and motivation for my workouts

I've felt like you at times, but there are quality shows. It's that cookie cutter anime BS that you dislike and not everything is that. As someone mentioned just research a little and you will find shows that are fun to watch. I haven't watched a new anime in about a year, but I still love it.

As for those Kawaii Waifu Sugoi people, you don't have to be like them. I'm not like them and I never really thought it was cute or funny. I don't consider them to be a majority of anime fans, but the kawaii is a subculture of anime.

I haven't really watched anime in years. Not that I think it's any worse than it once was or anything, just that I prefer manga as a medium. I enjoy reading more than watching something, the art is usually way better, and in most cases the manga's storyline far exceeds the anime adaptation (assuming the manga came first).

I watched the first three episode of Attack on Titan, and while the story was interesting I don't like the characters :/

I'm gonna stick with it to see where it goes story-wise, but it's clear I would have enjoyed this show more if I were younger.

To add to this, I also am not into the 'cute' / slice of life genre that seems to be so popular these days.

Nope. Had notions of this a few years ago. What I realized with a little patience is that anime still delivers on occasion - as its always been.

Take a step back from it.. and realize that there will probably be something you like eventually.

Stopped watching it after I was 10. It's cartoons.
