can MS afford NOT to highlight the non gaming functions @ E3

i mean because the alternative is going head to head with sony in-house exclusives, games vs games .. and i don't like those odds.. i mean not even considering the hardware advantages ps4 has for game related activities.

seriously they will have to highlight why they went down this path, and again underline why having a windows OS in the thing is worthwhile as a entertainment box .. because otherwise, assuming ps4 1st party stuff looks way better on stage ( a big if i guess considering launch sw is not pushing a consoles limits at all, but then again we are hearing ps4 dev environments are in a better sate too ..) ... what will MS say when asked point blank why the visual difference ?

i mean really ...the tv and browser , skype snap-in features are a major driver for XB1 ... and they wont talk to that at e3? ... not a chance in hell of that happening, it's what makes xb1 different

anyways will be interesting to see how much time each company dedicates to multimedia functions. sony could really fuck it up by going too far trying to show they do video/etc as well.

I think their primary focus at E3 is going to be showing off the games, and probably a price announcement, I'm sure they'll demo some Kinect exercise games.

You shouldn't be assuming that X1 won't have games and visuals to match PS4. Why would you? E3 is about games for them as MS has said themselves.

No, they can't, but for me, I don't want to deal with their stupid practices and policies, I want to hear them being stopped/removed before I start to care about the games. :/

I also think they will show off Kinect games.

If they spend more than 5 minutes on anything TV related during the presser it will be a big mistake IMO. They better come out dropping bombs after that shit pile on Tuesday.

Microsoft have taken a lot of flack over the last few months and especially since the reveal so i fully expect them to concentrate MOSTLY on games, i also expect them to blow us away with some of those games and possibly change peoples minds towards the Xbox One.

It was hinted in the Major Nelson interview that prices would be announced after E3, "later in the year"

They've highlighted that stuff for 47 of 60 minutes of the press conference, there is absolutely no need to do that again.

That is almost confirmed to be not the case, seeing their QA the other day.
Sony might do it tho, which puts them first, and therefore in a strategic good position. However, if MS can react to their price with some sub deals, they might have a chance to get more buyers.

I think they are aware of this so round two of everyone's worse nightmare will happen at E3, a heavy focus on Kinect games and Kinect integration. That and they will trot out their money hatted games to try and impress people, most notably Respawn's game.

I think they need to impress people to the point where they no longer care about the new policies.

I can't see Sony or Microsoft not giving us a date or price at E3. They need to give time for people to get pre orders and save up. I don't see a reason why they can't nail down a date at E3. Unless they are both behind in getting these consoles ready.

Wait, are you suggesting MS is going to be scared of Killzone? Really?

If they have nothing that matches it, yes, probably. What if DriveClub ends up looking and running much better than Forza 5? Can be real problems for them.

I was thinking of making this thread too, but I said before that they will repeat the first 15 or so minutes from the reveal
Would be a huge mistake and :/ since I've heard nothing about "wait til e3 for the games" "we are focusing on games"

I mean , it's cool if they spend 5 minutes talking about that before if we get a half hour of xbox tv xbox go home xbox music xbox bing then I'll be pissed

I want this " xbox on" , then "xbox play exclusive world premiere game" to start off the conference

I'm sure they'll touch on it again, but the focus will be games... Kinect games, that is. Bad acting, ahoy!

Yep -- since as well all know, tons of people want to play motion control games online for hours upon hours! Not standard controller games!

Motion controlled games would be a GREAT way for Xbox Live to continue on being a huge brand for core online gaming!

Just like the Killzone 2 GIFmania killed all Halo 3 and COD4 hype in tracks, right?

This is different. They are launching at the same time. From rumors Microsoft is behind on game development. The system isn't as powerful. If this is all true how will effect launch titles? Might not scare them as a game, but a lot of people buy games and the console based on graphics. And lets face it, so far it's not looking good for Xbox One.

They sure as hell have to impress with games or they are going to be eviscerated.

Also pre-rendered/in-engine cut-scene trailers are not going to cut it.

From what I'm hearing, MS will be lucky to have playable games. MS is working those guys into the ground right now. OTOH, I fully expect several games to be fully playable at E3 on Sony's side.

Everything else will be movies, and first glimpses per usual.

We have 2 consoles launching side by side, one will have superior looking graphics, free online play, and won't require internet or affect used games. Do you see why this is an interesting subject now? The likely hood of a person coming from a PS3 to Xbox is so small compared to the vice versa. This could be further compounded at E3 even Sony shows a larger leap in the visual department.

Seriously am i missing something here? Is the XB1 going to have WiiU like graphics? As i said in another thread, if games look as good as what i have seen from Forza 5 at launch i don't really see what the problem will be with the graphics.

Yes. What they can't afford not to do is show games. I'm hoping for some nice, full looks at their exclusives and time spent talking about other features will be centered on XBL and their download service.

I just hope everyone brings their A game. This is a huge E3.

No, it really isn't. It's possible to make impressive looking games on Xbone that intrigue people more than Infamous or Killzone.

^^^^Yes, because Killzone and Infamous are going to be the only games shown at E3 by Sony. Also people need to stop hating on Infamous a true next gen open world super hero game may impress more than you think.

If you think that Xbox games are going to equal the fidelity of Sony's 1st party output on a superior spec machine you sir are crazy. I wouldn't be shocked if 3rd party games look better, but we won't find that out till launch.

No, they claimed multiple times they had a stake in the ground to show "a ton of games at E3," and they "have amazing content," so they have to bring it.

I wouldn't be surprised if they look just as good as what Sony shows. I heard this same talk about the 360 in 05 and then we got Gears a year later. There will be some amazing looking games on the X1, its silly to think that there won't be.

They'll probably have a few Kinect games that I will consider non-gaming.
Core games wise they don't need to be afraid of what Sony has shown so far. Killzone is no threat whatsoever, and we haven't seen much of Infamous 2 yet.

BGB GDDR5 ;)

Seriously though theirs a power difference, Sony's devs like ND,GG,PD,SM are very good with graphics and some teams have had a long time (2 years or more). Sony's 1st party is also able to pump more games out but like you siad thats not indicative of the future as its just an assumption.

so your saying Sony already won all the next gen sales charts because GDDR5 graphics > budget graphics?

Not necessarily, but more that people on the fence may switch to PS4 because of it. That is not that crazy of an idea. Especially when you consider free online play, etc.

I have no doubt that the XBONE E3 will be entirely about games. The only real question is are they games I give a shit about.

I read someone on here say that Sony have more content than they can squeeze in to their E3 conference so are having to cut things out so hopefully they keep the good shit and drop the boring shit.

Wait, are you suggesting MS is going to be scared of Killzone? Really?

I think the more worrying situation is that Microsoft aren't scared of anything Sony are doing. Historically, it's that kind of hubris and underestimation of their competitors that cause dominant gaming companies to falter.

I think what they should've done is simply to be VERY clear and honest upfront.

In their first pre-E3 event they should've said at the start:

"Today, we're presenting the console and its broader entertainment functions, but look forward to E3, where our keynote will be focused all around games"

And then in the E3 Keynote, kick it off with:

"Today, our whole keynote will be focused around one thing: GAMES. Welcome to E3!"

One thing that Apple and Jobs were always brilliant about was that it was very clear how their keynotes were structured, what they would present, etc. This entire shitstorm that MS is experiencing right now would probably not have happened if these two messages would've been very clear from the start.

And yeah, I think they can and have to afford to completely focus on Games at E3. We all know what it can do now in terms of TV, online services, etc. - it's cool, but it's not what Neogaf and all the other gaming forums wanted. Now we need to know about the awesome exclusives that will basically force everyone to buy the console, cause they're too amazing to miss out on.

It certainly won't be like WiiU, nothing against that system. But nothing they showed at the reveal looked great. Forza 5 looked good, but it looked like 4. And was it even real? But my point was, if Sony's games look a lot better, it may hurt Xbox One.

No, it really isn't. It's possible to make impressive looking games on Xbone that intrigue people more than Infamous or Killzone.

Not sure if you know this, but Sony will have other games as well.

They're going to have to talk about it again. It's at the center of what they're building. 1/4 of their time will probably be spent on what we already know. The rest will be demos for Madden, FIFA, Rare's game and COD.

I think they need to spend some time talking about the non gaming stuff.... even though they showed more of the os than sony they really haven't shown much either. Nothing about xbox live (parties, will skype power their chat, etc) or their cloud offering (what does adding 300k servers really mean), which providers their tv service will work with, etc. I would say they spend about 20-30 mins talking about that stuff and dedicate the rest of the time to the games.

if consumers cared about graphics why is minecraft more played then nearlly every other game on xbox
