You know, I think I understand the PSone thing...
I think this all ties back to Sony going back to their PS1 mentality of courting developers, getting their input on games and the hardware - something that several people have mentioned to me before and after the PS Meeting.

I really love this idea of Sony bringing back the magic of the PSone / PS2 era. Where they had the biggest games, the best relationships with developers and made themselves known to be the number one place for gaming. They seem to have made all the right moves up to this point.

Less than two weeks now. The hype levels are rising. Sure gonna be exciting to see what the different teams have done with the added RAM since February. Especially regarding Killzone: Shadow Fall. Also, I made this for fun:

Maybe I'm reading too far into it but... it makes sense. Maybe.

Virgin Sony is the best Sony.

The PS4 is like a new start for them. A reboot. So yeah, makes sense.

Don't you remember Sony preventing 2D games from being released in the PS1 era? Took them a while at least.

I read the Notch golden psone as a return to the "golden" days, but I also have no real insight and I will now standby for people saying this is old or wrong.

Do you guys think Kojima will have something MGSV related at the Konami conference on the 6th? Or save it for Sony/MS conference? Or both?

If anything, it would be like when EA had a Dead Space 2 demo for their own conference. But then announce after the demo to expect more details at the Sony conference.

Realistically, how many SCE games will Sony show? The list of teams that can have something to show probably looks like this:

SSM Team 1
Naughty Dog Team 2
Ready at Dawn
Sony San Diego
Sony London
Sony Japan(Last Guardian)

Anything else I'm forgetting? I left out QD and Media Molecule for Gamescom. Aside from Ovosonico, any other partnerships?

Anyone else taking the week off of work for E3? Had a lot of ETO that I needed to kill.

I'm taking 3 days from work. Although I manage my own schedule so not sure that counts. ;)

Still, if you want to take a week, do it! This looks like its going to be the best E3 of the past decade, so you definitely don't want to miss it. I won't. ;)

I am, I have a ton of days off built up, can enjoy monday/tuesday/wednesday/thursday and watch all of giant bomb evening shows without worrying about going to bed for work. Then Last of Us on Friday... yep works for me.

You forgot GG's new IP..

Right on.

I think this gen the ps4 will be similar to SNES/PSX/PS2 and the WiiU will be the dreamcast of course.

I would gladly take 8 years of that.

So the concensus is that FFV13 is now on PS4...and that the luminous engine is at least powering the lighting of the game. Are you guys expecting some improvements in other areas? Are we still expecting the game to be action based (more KH than traditional FF)? I thought I had read (from an insider) that the combat was becoming more traditional.

That wasn't an insider don't believe everything you read on the internet.

I think that goes in line with Mark Cerny leading the helm for this project. He talked a bit about how he missed the "joy of play" he felt the PS1 was pushing back in the 90s.

That'll probably depend on just how long the game has been in development for the PS4. I think TLG could see a big graphical improvement compared to the last time that we saw it since it's rumored to have been in development for the PS4 for two years. If Versus is in the same boat then we could see big improvements for it as well. But it's also one of those games that I don't think too many people would complain about if it was mostly the PS3 version except 1080p 60fps. People just want the game at this point.

Err .... why do people still make rectangular PS4 concepts when we saw more like a square shape in the sneak peak ?

Has anyone actually gone by the teasers though and and lined them up and modeled it? He seems to have done a thorough job and believes he's got at least two corners right. I think he may have got the depth of it wrong (and it could be a square) though...

Its spinning too fast. Makes my head hurt.

I'm feeling a 2-3 days before E3 kinda vibe from this thread even tho there's still 2 weeks to go...

KEEP IT TOGETHER PEOPLE!

Keep it together? Man do you know how long its been. When I first saw Versus I was leaving primary school. Now I'm going to Uni. 7 years, 2555 days, 61 320 hours....I've never anticipated anything in my life for as long and much as this game.

People say 7 years so easily, but do they ever entirely realise how long that is? How many E3's and TGS's have passed with no release date in sight? Still at least we don't have it as bad as Shenmue fans. The poor souls have beent waiting for 12 years. I can't even begin to imagine how someone keeps hope of Shenmue 3 after 12 years have gone by.

I don't think the console will look like that. The teaser was definitely square. But I do like the pulsing blue light idea.

I suppose useful for notifications, or letting a player (color) know whose turn it is. Of course with the ability to turn it off, for games & movies.

I have a feeling the light on the console may coincide with the light bar of the controller. During the press conference, Sony used an example as an indicator for HP, but it's pretty impossible to tell the color's light due to the angle of the controller's light source unless its bright as a flashlight.

Has this been posted anywhere? I can't find a thread on it. Some guy compiled PS4 screenshots and used them to extrapolate what it might look like.
I think this is legit and he did good.

We all know the thing has to be as big if not bigger than the X1 due to thermal constraints.

Looks like the PS2.. and I'm actually happy.

I would buy the shit out of that :D

whats wrong with minus.com?

It loads super duper slow so I didn't want to clog the page.

I hope this guys concept (squared) looks right, if so it'd look really good, he made a lot of good arguments in that Reddit thread why he did what he did. But he didn't address the squareness of it. Some are saying that the square may in fact be the camera but I don't buy it because in the teaser it shows up several times.

Square is a really unorthodox shape for a Playstation console, and Sony tech in general.

The PS3 slim is pretty much square, maybe that's the direction they're going in.

I changed the ratio on it, it's skewed as heck because the shot was taken at an off center angle, but it gives a better idea. I agree it's probably not rectangular.

Not bad. Would not be ashamed to place that in my living room.

Wow I honestly don't remember that! I remember Rayman and Street Fighter Alpha 2 were both out at / close to launch here in the UK though.
I do remember several instances with 2D games (Earthworm Jim 2 for example) where it would state - *screenshots taken from Sega Saturn version, on the back of the box. On account of the PSone's weaker capabilities in that department.

Still as much as I loved the Saturn, PS had the overall support and best library by far. Looked way cooler too.
