You uh... start off in a
tent
and then you buy a house from Nook and you upgrade from there. In terms of dimensions and all, I have no idea... its kind hard to tell when one have fully upgraded his house or not.
 
The starting humor of being said mayor of an upcoming town and living under a large piece of cloth...

"Hey welcome new mayor! Glad you'll be joining us, here's your new place!" *points to shoddy tent*

As we've discussed in PMs, I don't think the town names should be rigid. For example, two people in the thread have already said they want to name their towns "Moga" and "Tanzia" respectively...and I suspect other Monster Hunter fans may be inclined to do the same. It's not really our place to interfere with another community members' experience with their game.

That being said, the active community will inevitably shrink very soon after the new-game-launch-hype passes (and the OT moves into Community) and any town or character name duplication should become a non-issue naturally through this. If someone's up to no good, a simple report to you, I, or anyone else who will be helping to maintain the user database ensures their elimination from the master list and exclusion from the community.

Excellent post Mikor, thanks for taking on this challenge. I think it's more worrisome to focus on "bad" players or griefers versus worrying about town names.

Everyone's going to have a different town, some of which will be much more memorable.

Hmm, I don't think it'll be a big problem that needs "no duplicate names" to be put in place. If a bunch of people really want to name their towns Hyrule then it should be okay. :) I think it'll only be an issue if all the mayors of Hyrule are named Link too. Haha. But it should still be fine. The OT will probably bring in a lot more new people, so we should wait and see.

I'll mostly play on my mayor character, but I'll definitely have other characters (mostly for pattern holding). Like you said though, the people who are actually sharing their 3DS should be listed in the comment section.

I believe the concern is that, in game, your friends are listed simply by Character name and Town Name. So someone who might be up to no good could set their character/town name to match that of another community member, essentially masquerading as them and discrediting the "real" member. It's a tricky problem in that sense, to be sure, but one that will thankfully only be a real issue during the launch window (I think!).

No, that'll be part of the online spreadsheet when its up when OT goes up.

With that said, I plan to put in my info but my codes will have to come in a week later. So if anyone's waiting on their codes from the bundle, I can edit it in for you.

I'm guessing they took that into account, haha. The events are "celebrating the launch" but the first day of meet-ups is nearly a week after the game's release date.

Yep, I've thrown together a sort of placeholder website that will allow community members to fill out a form and have their responses recorded to a read-only spreadsheet, which will be viewable on that same page. Philia shall be continuing to maintain the spreadsheet manually as need be, for as long/often as she's able to, but this method will prevent lurkers or malicious community members from messing with the list, and also give members an easy way to filter the list by various criteria (Native fruit type, for instance). Philia/FindMyWrench will provide site details once the OT goes up.
