Microsoft: Forza 5 runs at 60 fps, Xbox One has no fps/resolution requirements

What? This is merely them stating that they're not changing their policy of forcing a minimum resolution.
"Some of the most beautiful games of this generation are not dictated by how many pixels they're pushing to the screen. Motion blur, antialiasing, lighting: all of these things come into play. We just give developers the tools and let them make the right creative decisions."

I don't think developers should be thinking about making concessions in development this early in the game. This is stuff that gets discussed, typically, later in the console's life cycle when you're trying to squeeze the last drop.

It's as if they are hitting a development ceiling already, which is probably not exactly the case, but to think that developers are having to scale back their vision on the "next generation of hardware" is kind of fucked.

60 Frames, perfect. <3

So excited for this, I love Forza! My GoTY for 2013!

I'm wishing for 1080p, I'd be disappointed with 720p, but I'd accept it. Forza Motorsport 6 for 1080p though!

if these consoles cant do 1080p. oh my dear .... skipping
Of course they can do 1080p.

Even the fastest PC on the planet can be pushed to the point where 1080p is no longer feasible if enough is thrown at it, though. There's a trade-off here. Always will be. Even next, next, next gen.

Majority of the games this gen should be 1080p with some being sub 1080p( think 1280x1080)

Any game next gen being 720p is laughable. It would be like having 480p games last gen --sans wii

open world

edit:

also, I personally don't think there is all that much difference between 720 and 1080

Wow, already damage controlling non-1080p.

Eek.

Though tbh, 720p with great IQ upscaled to 1080p isn't going to be noticably worse than 1080p native games on most tvs.

Are you guys capable of taking his words out of context anymore than you are already?

I can't believe NeoGAF is allowing selective quoting, it feels like N4G in here.

Have Sony mandated a 1080p requirement for all games?

I like my current graphics card because I can play all games at very high settings at 1080 on my TV, but I can easily see some next gen games pushing both consoles graphically to keep up with high end pcs, especially a few years into the generation.

60 fps > 1080p

Agreed. This is another reason I don't mind 720p.

I'd rather devs take the extra power that would be used to display in 1080p and use it for other things, like frame rate, better draw distances, more objects on screen, more effects, ect.

720 is still HD.

This was even done this generation with some games dropping below 720 in order to have a certain graphical fidelity and still run at 60fps.

edit:

1080P 60FPS >> 720P 60FPS

No shit Sherlock.

That this is the first time in history that anyone states their game runs a certain frame per second, but doesn't mention the frame resolution, then downplays resolution, after rumors about gimped hardware.

LOL what?

Every 30FPS racer last gen after saying they ran at 30FPS didn't counter "but were running at 720p though"

....he's using an example from this generation to illuminate the issues developers will face in the next generation..

How do you not see that? Why would he downplay the resolution of games if the Xbone wasn't having problems hitting certain resolutions? Come on.

Honestly, I don't notice the difference between 720p and 1080p very much when I'm 6 feet away from a 40 inch screen, but up close it's a huge difference. This difference is greater the larger the TV of course, so it might not be a big deal for some.

I'm fine with 720p. Don't hate me.

He is saying they are not requiring games to be 1080p not that they can't be 1080p

Fuck 720p.

1080p is like putting glasses on compared to 720p. You can also use shitty AA solutions like FXAA and MLAA without making it look like there's a coat of vaseline in the screen.

Hell give me 1080p with no AA, I'll take it over 720p with 8xAA.

Pretty much confirms that the Xbox One won't render games at native 1080p. Such a shame.

Not really. It confirms 1 developer is going for less than 1080p in order to keep 60fps and having fancy effects on it. No indication that every dev will follow suit.

The concessions that developers are forced to make during creation aren't going to magically disappear because of beefier hardware - it's still static after all.

Here he's simply saying that if developers want to throw all the fancy effects and post-processing that they can muster, then they can without fear of being forced to meet a resolution quota.

To me all the console games released this gen (apart from the couple of 2D ones that run at 1080p) look like a blurry mess, so I would really not be impressed if Froza 5 were to run at anything lower than 1080p. What's the point of having good graphics if you everything is blurred?

That's actually a very good analogy.

That statement says one thing ....... Our box is visibily weaker than the PS4, people are not stupid enough to believe the cloud will actually improve things .......... so graphics are not everything.

I wonder how different this standpoint is compared to the talk around and during the 360.
