Xbox One: Details on Connectivity, Licensing (24 hour check-in) and Privacy Features

About de Family system :

You can always play your games, and any one of your family members can be playing from your shared library at a given time.

"At a given time" means : NO SHARING WHEN A GAME JUST CAME OUT IF PUBS DO NOT WANT IT.

Don't imagine you'll split the bill for you call of duty on day 1, that's just plain stupid from microsoft.

This!

They are fucking us good with this.

If EA puts out a game on the PS4 and say they you need to put in a one time use online code to play it, AND you need an online connection, I don't think Sony will tell EA to screw off.

I doubt that Sony will put that restriction on their games though. If Microsoft is the more popular console this gen, why would EA have two seperate policies both consoles?

It sucks, but this is an unfortunate evolution of the online pass.

Because on ps4 EA would be competing with games that don't have activation codes or always online.

And regarding always online, every console has this. Even the ps2 has always online games.

OldTimeGamer always seemed a bit suspect to me. But yea, a lot of accounts are getting zapped. Scary when you think about it.

It got to a point where I was looking at the post history of every account that was particularly vocal in their support of these anti-consumer practices. The same pattern emerged. Junior, had the account for years but has only be actively posting recently in xbox threads and to rubbish any talk of sony doing anything different. There are quite a few hardcore Xbox heads on this forum, but these posters....

Wow! Seriously? So like marketing people who masquerade as GAF people?

They purposely did that by using negative statements. The use of the word "enable" is a good point to notice. People think.. yeah, they're enabling me! It's empowering, however in reality they're actually restricting you. It's fun with words. This whole thing is still a huge bad idea and this is still just as bad if not worse than what was initially revealed.

The whole thing is incredibly well written. I'm kinda in awe of it.

3 friends =/= mass market.

There are literally hundreds of thousands of people without a broadband connection. Can't wait for this to blow up and hit the news.

and there are millions that do. I don't think there are that many people without a broadband connection and honestly, it's painfully obvious that Microsoft isn't targeting them anyways, so I don't see the big deal. the xbone is a luxury good. by definition they're going to be exclusive in some way.

So no more used games (I don't count putting up with publisher-gouged "reselling" as used games), I can't lend a disk to a friend, console needs to connect to internet once every 24 hours...cool.

MS just saved me the cost of an XBone.
Don't forget that we can't rent games. Thanks Microsoft! It looks like I'll build a nice PC or buy a PS4 instead! That is of course, as long as Sony doesn't go the same route.

I'd never thought I'd say this, but this whole episode has given me a lot of respect for genuine fanboys. I mean IMHO some of the e.g. Nintendo guys are batshit, but at least I am reasonably sure they aren't being paid for it.

Wow! Seriously? So like marketing people who masquerade as GAF people?
Yes, at this point I'm certain. And it's not like there are only a handful either.

Hasn't MS had a family XBL Gold plan for a while? From what I remember, all the billing information was shared, or something, which discouraged friends from sharing the plan. And would be doubly effective with the death of points for purchasing. I could see MS using that framework to determine Xbone family.

That is exactly what I think. Like they would ban used games, lending, trading to let you share with no restrictions with 10 people.

A new generation of games with power from the cloud: Because every Xbox One owner has a broadband connection, developers can create massive, persistent worlds that evolve even when you’re not playing.

Are they really this out of touch? Not everyone that has console games are fortunate enough to have high speed broadband in their home. Some people in rural parts of the world are still on dial up. How they're trying to justify always online has been absurd. You can watch tv all you want through it without being online, but play games? What its supposed to be designed for nahh, you're out of luck.

it mentions "transferring" in regards to giving a game to a friend. So, if I wanted a friend to play I game I own, I'd either have to give up my own game to do so, or have them play it on my account. Is that correct? And if I wanted to sell or trade in a game, that is down for the publishers to dictate.

Also, if you have to install the entire game anyway, why even have discs for it at all? May as well just sell codes for games since locked down digital seems to be clearly what their going for. If that is going to be their approach, then game prices will really need to lower to reflect that. Otherwise, you would actually save money in the long run by buying a PC.

The real complaint should be having to sign on every hour on another console, and every 24 hours to continue offline games on YOUR OWN CONSOLE. This is bad for people overseas and with unstable internet connections. I have a headache too from this

Curious about this family thing. I am assuming it just means your XBL account can be activated on up to 10 consoles. Otherwise there will be a lot of new 'families' starting up.

Also, no way any 3rd party publisher will allow the game giving. MS probably just threw that in there to mitigate some of the backlash.

Why the hell do they add layers of complexity on something as simple and innate as sharing a hard copy of yours?

I definitely believe that they did not have some of these policies set up prior to the announcement. Some of this seems like slap together half assed reactions to the outcry that would fit or be shoehorned into there earlier even more restrictive plan. They've done a horrible job and its all confusing as hell but I have a feeling, prior to orth, it was always online, no trading, one game one account and used game platform fee.

Why not? If its a public market and we can set the prices ( think eBay ) then it could be alot better than going to game stop.

Hell you wouldn't have to go anywhere .. Get a scratch free digital used game at anytime of the day or night.

Sound awesome to me.

Well that's the thing that remains to be seen. If it works out that way, that's great. I won't really have any complaints here, but I have my doubts. I've been thinking for a long while now that a digital Gamefly would be pretty amazing.

No renting. No lending. No resale. Always online.

Fuck off.

Was day one with OG Xbox and X360. Never touching this one.

Same here. If Sony doesn't do this, I'll slowly work on migrating the collection of multi-platform 360 games to PS3 and call it a day.

•Access your entire games library from any Xbox One—no discs required: After signing in and installing, you can play any of your games from any Xbox One because a digital copy of your game is stored on your console and in the cloud. So, for example, while you are logged in at your friend’s house, you can play your games.

Sorry if this has been asked already, but does this mean you have to install the game on your friend's console in order to play it? Or do you just sign in and play it via the cloud storage?

Most likely explanation is the game is tied to your profile. So when you log into a different Xbone you can download it. You won't play it from the cloud.

With Xbox One you can game offline for up to 24 hours on your primary console, or one hour if you are logged on to a separate console accessing your library. Offline gaming is not possible after these prescribed times until you re-establish a connection, but you can still watch live TV and enjoy Blu-ray and DVD movies.

Correct me if I'm wrong, if I understood above, this is not possible with Xbox One:

- A and B are friends
- A has two consoles.
- A and B have same game
- B is visiting A, would like to bring just disc (not the big console) so they can play
- But they can play only for one hour because B is not logged on his primary console...unless B decides to carry along big box.

If this were for digital media only, I could almost respect what they are trying to do.
The fact that they are forcing it onto physical media is appalling and that anyone can try to defend it is rather flawed and borders on disgusting.

This seriously sounds like a joke. I can't believe how anti-consumer this console is.

Essentially they are saying: "So, buy the system, and we'll give you the opportunity to play games for as long as we decide to have the servers up and running, but don't even think about lending a game to a friend, it just won't play unless he buys it again."

I hope gamers don't forget how shitty those policies are just to play the new Gears, Halo etc.
If the "console" is successful, i expect all the DRM nonsense to become the norm, and get even worse in the future.

"Offline gaming is not possible after these prescribed times until you re-establish a connection, but you can still watch live TV and enjoy Blu-ray and DVD movies,"

Thanks for reminding that my TV and Blu-Rays work without the Internet

What do you mean this isn't bad? It pretty much confirmed what we expected.

1. Xbone requires a internet connection. If you don't check in within 24 hours, your system is essentially locked.

2. You can not borrow or rent games.

3. You CAN trade your games to friends but they must be on your friends list and once you trade it, it gets tied to their account. You can only trade the game ONE time.

4. Publishers will have the ability to block you from selling/trading the game.

Just because they worded it differently doesn't make it better.

This.

It's funny. This news came as my internet was down for most of this morning.

It encapsulates how I feel right now.

Why not just have games publishers that want to block used sales release their games as download only, and everything store bought behaves like in the past. Would be alot less confusing.

I think it's 'funny' that some of this is even worse than we thought, like publishers having a choice as to whether to even allow trade-ins or those super restrictive private sales.

As i've said before,

Don't fuck this up Sony.

The ball is in your court.

I don't think it is.

With MS leaving this up to the publishers, I get the feeling that it was the powerhouse publishers like EA and Activision that are driving this. EA wouldn't have dropped online passes if they didn't know they'd have control over used games on both major platforms.

So Sony probably has no choice but to do the same and leave it up to publishers. They have to have CoD, Madden etc. on their console or they might as well not bother launching in the US.

So if it is the publishers driving this, the ball isn't in their court with anything but their first party games.

Genius.

Looking at his history: yes, he did.

That one is not joking, shill as well.

Many of them aren't "people" as such.

It gets better when you start looking at the posting history of these accounts.

You find accounts with 40 posts that are only active to either defend Microsoft or shit on the products of one of its competitors, over years. You find people that implied XB1 hardware secret sauce right up to the reveal. Then you can start identifying the various diversionary tactics that have been designed to deflect from or counter genuine issues, and how they evolve over time. It's a dark place, and discovering it has made me a more angry poster.
It is getting ridiculous. To the point where I need to look at people's post history every time I see these stupid comments to figure out whether they're a paid shill and whether it's worth even engaging with them. Although generally upon looking at post history of these people they're so littered with one-sided posts that even if they're not paid, they may as well be.

Damn...

i think i am out.

i can swallow the no used games part. it doesn't make sense since its my game i bought and i will do whatever i want to do with it. but i can swallow it.

but my games have to be checked online every 24 hours ? that means

1- when xbox 3 is released. MS will shut down the Xbox One Servers " like they did with the original xbox " and then all my games are useless.

2- if i lost internet connection for whatever reason " storm / cat shit on the net cable etc"

i will be out of gaming if it passes the 24 hours.

yeah no ty.

i will not support sony console if its the same too " in terms of online authorization every 24 hours/week/month/year.

thats a no no to me. and if thats the case. i will just upgrade my PC and call it a day.

when those companies don't have a single penny from us. they will come and kiss our feet for us to come back and remove all this shit.

who told these idiots that they are in control ? you do not build a system for you. you build it for us . learn this. we are the people paying money here. We are not playing your games for free.

The funny part is that we all knew this was the direction they were heading in. It only took them two generations to ease us into it and now there are people who are defending it. I'm glad a lot of you are waking up/doing something about it by voting with your money.
