wouldn't you be able to buy the game and pass it within whatever time they allow you to return a game and then say its defective and get back another copy of the exact same game with another key. you can now sell the game to anybody since its not opened and the key inside hasn't been registered to anybody.
 
I don't know if this has been asked yet but what would happen If I tried to trade in an xbone? Would it even work? Would it rip a hole in the space/time continuim?
 
I was thinking, can't this 24 hour check-in be like when PS+ uploads game saves to their cloud? You set a time for it to connect, it barely turns on, checks whatever it needed to check, and shuts itself off. Takes a minute or two at most. If they instituted it like that, you'd barely even know it existed.

There's a better chance of EA going exclusive to the Wii U then that happening.

Publishers are not going to drop prices and they're not going to do anything that benefits us as consumers.

This whole setup exists to protect publishers from their own mistakes at the expense of consumers.

Congratulations MS, you just lost me as a customer. Hell, I'd be getting rid of my 360 if it wasn't for the two Banjo ports.
 
I got to thinking... there is one positive... Gamestop won't be able to open brand new games, take them home, play them, use them as coasters, bring them back to the store, and then SELL THEM AS NEW.

I don't think people have a problem with the connecting every 24hrs to download updates and stuff. It is the fact that if it doesn't connect for whatever reason you have a glorified blu ray player with a TV pass through.

I don't see how it could be possible if they set the terms that only someone who has been on your friend's list for 30 days can try one of your games.

I guess they're still working out the rental thing with maybe Gamefly, and any other rental outlets.

If that's the only bonus you can think of, then no, it's not.

And I wouldn't be surprised if MS and Gamestop set something up to allow that to happen.

That shouldn't affect anyone. If you demand a sealed copy then buy the game at the store across the street.

This sounds like you could build a theoretical family and share your games with up to ten people and buy one copy of a game share it for up to ten people ... or did I miss something?

First one doesn't affect me. If it does for you or anyone else for that matter, don't buy an XBO. Simple as that. Not trying to be a jerk but if you know your internet isn't stable and you buy an XBO anyway, don't complain if your internet goes down and you can't play your games. You knew these guidelines from the get go.

As for servers needing maintenance, how many times does that actually happen? If it did, I'm sure they'd let you know ahead of time and have a plan in place so you can play your games. If it's unexpected, I'm sure there'd be compensation.

hopefully it's like that. a gentlemans agreement between 3 friends to only play a certain game this month while the other 2 guys play the other 2 games essentially cutting the price of a game down to 1/3rd retail price would certainly take the sting out of these crap policies.

Assuming that this means 'only one person accessing the entire library at a time' though.

Still I time share arrangement on some xbox profiles if done cleverly could be alright. I think I need to start chatting to my friends in NZ again, being that they are +12 hours timezone to me.

There has to be a reason why they keep using the word "family" and not just "family and friends" etc. It sounds like there will need to be some way of identifying them as actual family members.

Still a lot of unknowns.

GameFly and Redbox somewhat (especially IF Sony follows suit)

Redbox still has the movie component to its business and now streaming, and with less and less physical BlockBuster stores they have more market share, but the gaming component is an important aspect of their business model

I think this is people just hoping for a single positive in the midst of all the shit. I'm guessing there will be heaving restrictions. Stuff like all the accounts having to be originated on the same Xbone, or the same billing address, or hell even some kind of facial recognition type stuff. I don't think they are going to openly allow a way to game the system when they will only let you give your game one time and not get it back. People are just choosing to see it as the best possible outcome.

And they will be treated the exact same way... But let's not forget, they already confirmed there is no internet connection required. So.... If anything it will be different in that aspect. Either way if it's even close to the same I'll be done with consoles.
 
Well I am a 5 Years steam user, have a ton of games ( 200+), and only 4 or 5 I payed full price. My average spend is about US$ 20/Monty, going up. My ps3 is used basically for exclusives. I love that and don't really care a out lending, borrowing or reselling. I am a very satisfied customer.

Now, I as disapointed with the underpowered and US Centric xbone, but what kills me is This 1 day check. deal breaker. Ps4 can have used games restriction, I dont care, I am used to with steam and love having a big library, but online each 24h will break the ps4 deal also...

gamestop does it all the time.... its only been mildly reported of the games being played, as the response from gamestop on OPENED New games, is that of security reasons, and lack of Game placeholders on shelves.

I believe they have explicitly stated it won't. Not sure how people expect sony to be able to have this kind of drm without it though.

How would this work without an online requirement? What would stop a bunch of people from just not connecting their ps3s to the internet, buying one disc, then everyone installing and playing off it?
 
If the used game thing is up to the publisher, does that mean that even the publishers that opt out of if require you to go to a "select retailer" to make the sale.

Is selling privately to another individual completely off limits? If not, how does the other party know if the game is locked or not by the publisher?

It could be something crazy like it only works for Xbox Ones on the same subnet.

I wouldn't expect something like that but it is a way to physically limit it to the same household in most cases, at least for the average tech level of their customer base.

There is a possible loop hole, but it requires you to a) add the buyer to your friends list and then b) wait 30 days, to perform the licence transfer that c) the buyer could never ever get rid of.

So in other words, yes, private sales are off limits.

The only way you could get around it I guess would be to add the buyer to your friends list when the sale is proposed, and complete the transaction 30 days later, effectively making it too much trouble for most people.

Selling private is completely gone. The only possibility is selling to a friend who's been on your friends list for 30 days and even then it can only transfer once.

I'm pretty sure there are no used games at all. They specifically stay away from the wording of used games. All they ever mention is trading in games and reselling games at approved retailers, which that can even be stopped publishers where you cant resell games at all. It says nothing about used games. With the way they were talking at the reveal mixed with this info I have a feeling that resold games are just considered brand new games again. They seem to think of the discs as nothing more than an option to download the game.
 
You´re just reading SONYs statements wrong - they also said this to KOTAKU:

UPDATE: More relief... At a roundtable this morning, Sony's game studios chief, Shuhei Yoshida, told reporters that any requirement for users to register a game online in order to play it would be left to game publishers. Sony won't require that.
