I kind of agree with that. I don't have anything against Alonso, but with Crouch up fron Liverpool need width and a good crosser of the ball so that's Pennant. They have to score at least one so Gerrard attacking from central midfield is crucial. They can't just pair Alonso and Gerrard though, both can defend but it's not what they're there for and they would weaken each other if anything against Chelsea's midfield. So they need a defensive player, Mascherano or Sissoko and he's chosen the former.

I'm more confused by Zenden. I'd have played Arbeloa at left back and Riise on the wing now that Finnan's back, especially as he didn't play very well in the first leg.

I'm a liverpool fan and I'm so pumped for this match tonight. A few days ago I couldn't understand why I wasn't feeling the same about this as two years ago but now I am.

Who do I think will go through tonight? I don't have a clue. I just hope its a really thrilling match and the best team goes through without a bad refereeing decision or diving.

And Zenden? Can understand why they have left out Alonso though, he just hasn't been up to it as of late. Zenden will need to put in the performance of his Liverpool career tonight.

Just looking through the stats, it looks like like Mascherano and Pennant are in danger of missing the final should they qualify from Liverpool's starting line up. Well, anyone can miss it if they're sent off, but those two aren't exactly yellow card shy, they could very well pick up a ban tonight. I don't think anyone on the bench is at risk.

As for Chelsea...Joe Cole and Drogba could miss the final. I guess United fans will have their fingers crossed there, especially on the latter. Robben and Diarra too if they come on, another reason to keep Robben out of the game if at all possible.

I think Liverpool will make it through and they are the team that I would like united to play if we get to the finals. I'd hate to play chelsea unless drogba is suspended.

As things stand the game will go into extra-time, so neither team is a position where the need to score. I think mourinho will make the first change. If Chelsea dont score withing the first 20 minutes of the second half, I think he'll bring on robben.

I thought Joe Cole was quite lucky too, when he took Gerrard out. I can't remember if it was from that free kick that they scored, but if so he was punished enough.

I've seen those given yellow cards though, and he could have been out of the final for certain already.
