DriveClub (Evolution Studios/PS4) announcement trailer. [PS3 WHEELS ARE SUPPORTED]

Devs this gen should go for the 720p@60fps menu option if that's what it gets to run their games at a higher framerate.
Is that straightforward for them to do? I know that kind of thing is commonplace on PC, but I'm not sure how easy it would be on a console.

I'd go for the pretty/1080p option anyway. Sorry. I suck at non-arcade racers. :p

Sounds like it was a majority vote for 60 within the team.

New thread? Some Gaffers have convinced everyone DC is 30FPS, lol...
Nothing is confirmed, they just said they are aiming for it. Cant imagine thats new-thread worthy.

Good news if they hit it, though. Also, why does there seem to be some flat option between 30 or 60 for consoles? Is there any reason that you couldn't have 45-50fps?

It's possible, but it doesn't look nice. Things look best when the framerate is some multiple of the TV's refresh rate, and almost all TVs run at 60Hz thesedays. With 60FPS you're essentially showing one new frame every time the TV screen refreshes, and with 30 it's one frame for every two, but with other numbers it ends up uneven and you get a bit of stutter.

Gotcha. Thanks for the explanation.

I don't know, I think it would have to be hardware-enabled. I think you can't change the vertical resolution in a PS3 game once it starts. For instance Wipeout HD uses a dynamic resolution, it varies in the range between 1920x1080 and 960x1080. But it's *always* locked at *x1080. Same deal with the ICO+SOTC HD collection. ICO runs at full 1080p, SotC runs at 960x1080 because it can't drop to 720p after the game boots up.

No thanks. 720p is horrendous.

NO U

Seriously though, for me 60fps is a must in a racer. I can deal with 720p+amazing AA if that gets me 60fps. :P

Aiming for 60 fps? Nice! Hope we get a confirmation later tonight.

Now, were they aiming for 60 fps even before the reveal in February or were they forced to aim for it because of the demand? :P

Is framerate something you can just switch near the end of development? Genuine question.

I can't imagine they haven't been building around 60 while trying to max out graphical fidelity, hence "aiming". We'll see though.

I think Perkins is just a marketing guy.

He's the art director.

Damage information:

We've gone to the same level of detail as we have with all of the materials, and everything's layered up sensibly so you can scratch and dent and crush. The carbon fibre fractures and cracks, and the metal will buckle and peel, and reveal the layers of paint, and finally, the metal.

Also, the game doesn't feature real-world tracks, but rather fantasy ones set in real-world locations.

Alex Perkins: Increased visual fidelity does cost, there's no argument about it. We are aiming for 60. If I had my way, I'd rather have more stuff going on at a prettier level and lower framerate.
He should be fired.

It's free with the console? Jeepers.
It's free with PS+. It did say "Drive Club PS+ Edition", so I don't know whether that means it's gimped or not... but I would hate to think so. Maybe they say that just to assert that it's not a physical copy you're getting. A lot of PS+ games I've downloaded say "Download version" next to them or something.

PS. Now we wait:

I was thinking more along the line of GT Prologue.

If current PS+ is anything to go by and they give us a PS+ edition, we won't be able to buy the full game. :p
