Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS: Info Collection - Dojo, Mega Man and Trailer! 2014!

Don't care if it's old, this looks great.

anyway, I'm a huge Metroid fan and I don't really care if Ridley is in or not. I don't know where this whole movement even got started or how it's kept it's steam over the years. He's cool sure, but he's not that cool.

Also melee on dolphin emulator with everything maxed out is awesome (although I prefer playing it on console)

Sakurai was dead set against an Animal Crossing character as of Brawl. Now look. Look with your eyes and see what happened.

That quote doesn't mean a thing. If Sakurai wants it, Sakurai will do it. And if the fans want it, Sakurai will try to do it.

Disappointing to hear there won't be any cross-play between the systems. That would've been the absolute icing on the cake, even if you couldn't use certain characters or stages.

This is the first I heard about that. That actually makes me happy. I was afraid the game was going to be a lot smaller than Brawl (sort of like Mario Kart 7) because I thought it was the same game on both systems with cross play.

The above exchange between Nintendo Power and Sakurai is the only thing that really casts doubt on Ridley's prospects. I've argued long and hard for his inclusion; he has long been my most-wanted newcomer. I hope Sakurai comes around and revises his opinion on Ridley, much like he revised his opinion on Villager.

I would love for Ridley to be in, he'd be a great addition and he deserves a spot, but he's just really awkward and I don't know if him as a Smash fighter would be representative of how he is in Metroid.

He's a large character that's incredibly nimble and fast. That's a hard sort of thing to properly work. Imagine Charizard moving with Smash Melee Fox to get an idea of how it would be really awkward

Note the date and the fact he didn't edited his post.
Who the fuck is that guy..? I swear, sometimes I think we have more insiders than juniors, seriously.

Edit: he has Gematsu as his homepage on his profile, does he work there? if that's so, then maybe he's an actual leaker after all. The lack of a "Woo I nailed three of them!!1!" post is very suspicious as well, at least that's what I would do lol.

Look at his wing span.

Now imagine him jumping or gliding in the side scroller view of Smash Bros, those wings are coming out and he's going to look massive

Now the Melee movie is a good idea. That's Ridley smaller and better, but still, he has some additional challenges like how to deal with those massive wings.

Could make it like Charizard's wings where the wings are not fully stretched out all of the time like it is in that CG clip.

Don't care if it's old, this looks great.

And that's why I think he's really cool and an iconic character for the Metroid series since he is the penultimate villain in the Metroid series.

Guy who runs Gematsu apparently.

Nintendo Power: There was a rumor at one point about Ridley being playable. Was that ever a consideration?

Sakurai : I think that would probably be pretty impossible. [Laughs] If we had put our best efforts into it, we might have been able to do it. But he might have been a little slow. Would that be all right? [Laughs]

Times change. Things change. Decisions change. :p

You know how people were dissecting his words saying that both version will have the same amount of characters, do you think he means that some characters will be exclusive to the system, like he has done with the stages? I can see Mallo from Pusjmo/Pullblox appearing on the 3DS only etc.

Ridley can be small enough guys!

possiblytheworstpartoftheworstgame.jpg

Don't you dare. My biggest fear for this game is that Sakurai pulls something like that, and with Samus using her Other M design, well...

Ridley's my most wanted newcomer at this point (since an Animal Crossing character's already in), and I'd rather have no Ridley than Other M's halfassed excuse for a Ridley.

It would be weird of him to phrase it that way if that's not implied, right?

Yeah, then I really think it's pretty much confirmed, not sure why would he leak those kind of things though, they kinda ruin it, at least for me.

He's large, but he's not really a "thick" character like Bowser, DK, Ganondorf, etc. It's more that he would take up space due to the wings and tail, but that could be made to work with creative modeling and animations. And since he's not really a "thick" character, once he's scaled to fit with everyone else he wouldn't necessarily have to be a heavy character either. Have him somewhere in the upper medium range. As for disadvantages, most of his attacks barring a tail swipe or fireball would probably be pretty short range.

Sorry if this has been asked before, but do we know if there will or will not be an adventure mode? Subspace Emissary was one of my favorite parts of Brawl, and the length of it was just awesome.

I'm sure there will be. Hope they put less emphasis on it though, because that was my least favorite part of Brawl. At least I only had to play it once, unlike Melee's long ass adventure that had to be done over and over.

I just don't really feel like the Smash Bros mechanics lend themselves well to a side-scrolling platformer.

Hmm, yeah, the possibility that Ridley would be represented with his abominable Other M look kind of makes me prefer they make another character instead. Even though up until now, I've always listed Ridley as my No. 1 most wanted newcomer.

Or he could have mixed in a few fake predictions with the leaks to make it seem like any other prediction :0

I want an Excitebot as a playable character.

Yeah it could be that too, that would also help him cover his source. Pac-Man will really be there though, that's a given.

The Gematsu guy said he was passing along what someone had told him a week before E3. It was never presented to him as predictions. He just used what he'd been told to inform his own predictions. On the actual Gematsu side, he specifies that all six were told to him as being in the game and set for an E3 reveal. I believe this was the plan at one point, but PR played it by ears and shuffled the individual trailers when they reached the intended hype. Sakurai can now save them for the drip-feed of hype via Miiverse and Nintendo Directs.

Or he said Wii Fit Trainer as an offball and it ended up occuring.

Sure, you have to have a special kind of mind to think up of Wii Fit Trainer as a character, but really, I don't think the fact he got it right makes his words gospel yet.

Mac/Mii/PacMan all have high chances of happening regardless, though.

No...not really. I'm not even going to dig up what I know you're referring to. Its in a completely different context than what he said about Ridley, and you know it.
Sakurai: I mean, there are lots of popular games with characters that just aren’t meant for fighting and were too hard to incorporate into the Smash Bros. title. Heading the list of these characters are the ones from the games we just mentioned, Nintendogs and Animal Crossing.

No, that's pretty straightforward.

I didn't realize this. Interesting nonetheless.

If true, Little Mac would make the most sense since he was revived. I wouldn't want a Mii to be playable, but depending on the move set, it could be interesting.

Edit: Pac-Man is expected by almost everyone I think.

Villager was previously off the table due to prior comments by Sakurai where he agreed it'd seem inappropriate to include playable characters from a franchise as peaceful as Animal Crossing. So to guess Villager AND the absolutely inexplicable Wii Fit Trainer, as well as Mega Man, makes the leak seem legit indeed. As others have noted, not even the Smash Bros. Roster Maker program had Wii Fit Trainer -- and among the thousands of possibilities in that program, there was even a slot for Flipnote Frog!

So far we have screens of every character on 3DS EXCEPT for wii fit trainer. Wonder why.

Now watch as he ignores your post because he's proven wrong!

We don't have 3DS screens for Wii Fit Trainer OR Villager. I'm hoping that on the 3DS, we'll get the male Wii Fit Trainer and the female Villager. Would be a nice lil' mix-up.

After Sakurai sees the American demand for another Metroid character in Smash, he'll relent and add Adam Malkovich, who can restrict enemies from using certain moves, cripple them emotionally, and use a bullshit ice gun to instantly KO any enemy.

It seems like you can't really take any of Sakurai's statements too seriously, considering we have the villager in the game.

...

Does this mean we're getting a Nintendog?

Can someone link me to this "leak"

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=62304489&postcount=2996

Same guy who posted there posted this article: http://gematsu.com/2013/06/wii-fit-trainer-joins-super-smash-bros

Yes we are, you didn't see it in the trailer?

The Villager's face...

#dead

Didn't notice that lol

Excitebot would be great. However, that game had a really spotty release, did it not? Came out in America but not in Europe, iirc. Not that that's stopped other characters before (JPN-only Roy, for example), but still...

Regarding Mii, I think this character has excellent potential. The appeal would be to allow players to use any Mii on their system. In other words, you could play as yourself! In terms of moves, there are a wealth of games to draw upon: Wii Sports/Resort, Wii Play, Wii Fit, Wii Music, Wii Party, Pilotwings Resort, Nintendo Land, etc. It would be far from a dull character.

EDIT:

It'd also be great if Samus was that quick in the game, could shoot that fast, recover that fast and have that quick of a jump (not floaty). A boy can dream ...
I guess since Metroid is part of the holy trinity of Nintendo and they only have one rep.

Kotaku already confirmed that there's not going to be any differences in the 2 games' rosters.

Maybe because her 3DS model isn't done yet or something.

If Miis are playable and customizable, imagine the possibilities...

Event Match #89: Attack of the Nintendo Presidents
That would be awesome. Or Nintendo could hold an official online tournament, where the person who reaches the end gets to go 1v1 against Sakurai... and Sakurai will be using a Mii of himself.

and have bullshit control over Master and Crazy Hands

Theory: Olimar will be replaced with a giant Purple Pikmin.

It explains why Reggie refused to answer Geoff's dumb question about whether Reggie would be in the game.

How would this work if everyone has different sized Mii's. Not only that, how would I be playing as myself?! I don't play baseball!!

I really do think the reason they haven't shown Villager and Wii Fit Trainer on 3DS yet is because there are surprises to their appearance.

Case in point: Wario. Remember how he made his debut in his 'Ware gear? And then later, there was a hype-as-hell Dojo update where it was confirmed he has his classic skin, too?

They could be saving similar updates for Villager and Wii Fit Trainer. Imagine: "On WiiU, you play as the boy Villager. But on the 3DS, you play as the girl!" "On WiiU, you play as the female Wii Fit Trainer. But on the 3DS, you play as the male!"

Certainly it would add another interesting wrinkle to these characters and create yet another bit of incentive to check out both versions.
