Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS: Info Collection - Dojo, Mega Man and Trailer! 2014!

I imagine it would be like Meta-Knight all over again. A short character with tons of projectiles and mobility sounds insane.

MetaKnight had a whole lot of dumb shit going for him both as a character and within Brawl's engine which lead to him being as stupid as he was. Megaman doesn't look busted with his projectile based moveset and I'm certain Sakurai learned from his mistakes in making the defensive options so potent in Brawl.

Edit: Ganondorf is a joke character only if you're making him run for your amusement. Seriously, who approved that kind of run animation for him?

I dig him now, just at the time, he was "stealing a spot" from someone else. Though if Palutena isn't in, I will bash the little Mii's skull into the ground. Somehow that stupid thing will automatically be responsible.
*fast-forward to launch day*

*Sakurai claps his hands*

SAKURAI: "...and that's all the newcomers in Smash!"

KARSTICLES: "B-but... n-no Palutena... You gave us Mii, but no... no Palutena..."

*Karsticles falls to his knees in the pouring rain*

KARSTICLES: "You son of a --"

*Karsticles begins punching Mii repeatedly in the face, over and over and over*

KARSTICLES: "You stole her spot, you Playmobil bastard!"

*Neiteio attempts to pull back Karsticles as he continues to pummel Mii*

NEITEIO: "Karsticles... KARSTICLES! LOOK!"

*Karsticles slowly stops punching, his chest heaving up and down. He looks down at the bloodied Mii... and the Mii's face is his own*

KARSTICLES (as camera dramatically pans upwards): "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"

*Friedrich Nietzsche enters the scene, smoking a cigar*

NIETZSCHE: "He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster. And if you gaze for long into an abyss, the abyss gazes also into you."

A small gundam maybe. Ray 01 would probably still be small like it was as a Assist Trophy in Brawl.

That would be too small though. In that they were just trying to keep him in his actual proportions since he wasn't playable. If they made a Ray 01 or MkIII playable they would have to make him bigger. I think that they could approach it two ways, make it Samus' size while she wears the Varia suit and just have him be agile and a long range fighter, or if they want to be more authentic to his roots then make him about Kirby's size but still agile. I'd like to see a more full scale Ray 01 just because having a playable mech in Smash would be fucking awesome.

Karsticles has found himself in a dark place today. A place where his own worst desires are held up to the mirror, and what emerges from beyond the glass is a dark shadow of the man he believes himself to be. Alas he could not have expected less when he began gaming in...The Twilight Zone

You know who could be a potentially obscure semi-Nintendo character that could be an assist trophy or an alt costume?

glory-of-heracles-character-art-3.jpg

Am I the only one that played the DS game this character is from? I thought the whole mana concept to be pretty frickin' awesome.

Am I one of the only ones here who likes Miis?

I mean, they aren't my favorite, but I think it'd be fun to see them in Smash. Plus, they're pretty iconic, and have a breadth of games to draw from.

Eh, I'd be glad if they made it, but not heartbroken if they didn't.

You can't name him Pit though. Apparently not Greek enough.

Cue music
Cue sound

Camera begins slow zoom out, Karsticles a slumped silhouette on his knees in the dark alley. His feeble sobs are faintly audible over the music as he holds the ruined body of the Mii who once looked up to him as a brother. Credits roll over the scene

I think he, specifically the one pictured, could be a fun wink and nod Pit alt. costume. Though Sakurai doesn't even know the series exists and I guess he'd be considered like semi third party? The series seems to be owned by Paon who is an independent studio I think.

Who is that?

Protagonist of the latest game in the series Glory of Heracles. Specifically the one for the DS. It's a fun jrpg, not earth shattering by any means. But I enjoyed what I played of it.

EDIT: I really don't want Miis as playable characters because we would have crap like hoho dickface mii vs hitler mii, and you know Nintendo wouldn't want that shit on it's hands.

I'm playing that right now! Got it cheap at a EBgames sale.
However, I doubt that the franchise is wholy owned by Nintendo.
Is the copyright information available on the Japanese VC titles?

So, according to the Dojo, we have six more mains left. Bringing the total to 18 main fighters. This is assuming that the mains are going to be revealed before the secrets.

This is all I know about the company who made the series haha. Apparently the man who wrote the plot for Glory of Heracles, the series creator, helped write the plot for Subspace Emissary from Brawl! Fun little factoid I just found out.

I don't think he's the series creator. He was the scenario writer of Final Fantasy VII though.

Supposedly, the whole game's a throwback to Glory of Heracles III. Heracles (the actual son of Zeus) being the original hero and a recurring protagonist in the series.

I'm guessing he's going by the empty boxes you see next to the characters on the Dojo site. There's around that many boxes left to be filled I believe.

...empty boxes? Is this the same smashbros.com I'm talking about? Maybe I'm going crazy cuz I see no boxes... why are the insides of my arms so itchy???

This isn't necessarily a Dojo. It's more like a promotional website until it becomes the Dojo (the exact same thing happened with Brawl).

I'm guessing that the remaining spots are three veterans, and three newcomers. These will be three newcomers that they want to heavily promote alongside Villager, Mega Man, and Wii Fit Trainer. The veterans could be any, but I would guess that one may be a bit of a shocker. Or at least an exciting one.

I wouldn't say that the current Smash Bros. website is representative of the final starting roster at all, including those blank spots.

As far as I know the hero in the DS version isn't the son of Heracles, but actually somebody else. To be honest I haven't finished the game, though I did get pretty far in it. I'm reading an interview they have with him on the Nintendo site. It seems like he was the scenario writer for all the games, maybe not series creator but he's a pretty big person in this particular series history.

Other fun factoid. Seems like Kazushige Nojima, the scenario writer for the Glory of Heracles series, FFs VII, VIII, X and X-2 will be the scenario writer for XV as well.

Go to the site, click on a character, scroll down, click on the arrow to the right to see the other characters. That's where you'll see the empty boxes.

Jesus christ man, Olimar is 2 fucking centimeters. That's his actual goddamn size. You think they can't make Ray 01 bigger or Ridley smaller? What the fuck is wrong with you people. Ray 01 is the closest thing to a Gundam this game could get and I actually prefer him over a Gundam.

Something about this post just makes me laugh a lot.

Ok, Brawl had 35 playable characters.. now, realistically.. how many new characters do you expect for Smash Bros 4? I'm going to say 10 more characters where Wii Fit Trainer, Villager and Megaman are part of which means there are 7 free spots left.

I really dug Glory of Heracles. Wouldn't mind seeing him in some form.

20 more spots so my roster has a better chance of being true.

Also just to restate this in case people don't read my edit in my previous post.

The scenario writer for FF VII, VIII, and X is also doing the same thing in FFXV. And he's the scenario writer for all the Glory of Heracles games.

I assume he means these. I actually hadn't noticed them myself until I really looked for them.

Aha, thank you most attentive and beautiful human beings.
But maybe those are the characters!

I'd love either Daisy or Rosalina, with a preference to the former.

A Rosalina who uses those lumas in her attacks would be interesting. I think she'll make it as a AT because the Galaxies are going to be rep'd in some way..

Yea that's how I feel about it too. There's not even separate areas for items, stages, etc. Hopefully we'll get another video revealing some veterans and newcomers. I need it Sakurai lol.

35 if you count Zelda/Sheik, Samus/Zero Suit, and Pokemon Trainer as single characters.

I think 10 more is spot on.

I expect between 45 and 50 total character slots. I don't expect any new transformation characters, so my vision has all the Brawl cast staying plus 10-15 newcomers, which means the total number of unique characters (not slots) would be between 49-53 (including transformations such as Sheik, Zero Suit Samus, and the Pokemon).

I think sakurai will go towards 50 so 15 more.

I guess I'm a little further in. In that DS game you mentioned, there are multiple characters who call themselves Heracles: it's a mystery from the start as to who is the real Heracles. Later on, you find out that
the fourth hero, the big guy who goes simply by 'Heracles', is actually Iphicles. He's the mortal half-brother of Heracles. Iphicles turns out to be dead already, fading away when his memories return. This breaks Heracles out of his depression and has him join the party as a replacement. He summons a pegasus-drawn cart: probably his mode of transport in earlier games.

So, if that series as a whole is to be represented, I think it would be by its main recurring character.

Anyway! You know what series totally should have been on Wii and deserves a stage or character or something?

I can't see there being anymore than 6 new characters for a total of 41. Sakurai's said he wants to focus on updating and changing whats already there as opposed to adding a whole bunch of new shit. Plus you have to take into account the fact that they want this game out by 2014, and it's a dual release for both 3ds and Wii U. If there's more than 6 I will be overjoyed but I really don't see it happening at this point.

Wow, I think people are setting themselves up for disappointment if they're expecting 50 characters.

I really think 42-44 character slots is the amount we'll end up getting.

I don't really mind just as long as we get a lot of newcomers. Cut some fat from the Brawl rooster, I don't play with 95% of them anyway

Anytime Sakurai says anything about tightening up the roster, it's expectation management. He did it for Brawl too. It's so fans can be a bit grounded in what they expect from a new Smash in terms of characters.

I would be sincerely surprised if the roster doesn't reach at least 45. Sakurai just loves loves loves jamming his games with content. And this time he's got Namco to help him create his vision.

What are you going to do with 5% of a rooster, come on now.

I think the comment simply has to do with how Sakurai makes his games. Look at how Smash fans discuss a new game. It's mostly about new characters, with much less thought towards other additions or improvements.

Plenty have been demanding improvements too. The joy towards tripping being removed is still so nice. :D

People discussing possible characters in a crossover fighting game?

Shocking.

It's definitely that too.

Sakurai just knows the Smash fanbase and tries to avoid setting their expectations for characters so high that they crash and burn.
