Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS: Info Collection - Dojo, Mega Man and Trailer! 2014!

The best part of Namco's involvement with the game's development is the netcode.

Namco has one if not the best netcode in the industry for fighting games, so this time around, Smash's online won't suck. In fact, it will be near flawless.

That and the fact that the game may release sooner than we think.

Design-wise, Chrom was clearly inspired by Ike, with the half sleeve look and more aggressive personality. Also, all the jokes about Chrom breaking walls suggest a focus on power, rather than finesse. There's also the Aether skill, even if the animation wasn't the same.

I guess I can buy that, I just can't see the two being perfectly interchangeable with having different types of swords as their characteristic weapon.

A left fielder that I dont think is too unlikely is this guy right here.

I wont go looking for him, but given how strong his relationship has become with Nintendo over the past years I wouldn't even be stunned if I one day saw him announced joining the fight.

What? Magic is stronger than swords; Morgan is the most broken unit in the game.
What I meant to say is that they are not as important to the game's narratives or however you wanna see it. Sakurai has proven again and again that he would rather pick up the safe crowd-pleasing characters before any supporting ones.

You don't know how hype I was when NamcoBandai got revealed as the grunt work team way back. You also don't know how happy I was to hear at the same time that Sakurai would be doing character balancing, changes to the gameplay and the like by committee versus by himself knowing full and well that the NB Smash team also had Tekken/Soul Calibur guys in there.

We could get the full deal here, a Smash game that can be (or come close to) Melee 2.0 "This time it's for real" edition with netcode that makes it all worthwhile.

I'm hyyyyyyyyyyyyype.

Marth, Ike, and Chrom/Lucina (paired up) would make me happy. Really hoping we get more than 2 FE reps this time around.

The fighting already looks much better than Brawl's. The lack of tripping and the gameplay being faster sounds like a huge deal.

Exactly.

- the speed and engine would be middle of Melee and Brawl
- no more tripping
- Pit and Bowser being revamped, and Donkey Kong's UP + B seem to be little different. It could meant that they would revamp other characters that we are not aware of.

I'm not sure about online mode. I'm very cautiously with my hype with netcode. Since most of our friends went on different paths and we are not in same location anymore. Super Smash Bros 4's Netcode would be one of important thing I would keep my eyes out for.

I would be okay if they are going to release on Sept 23, 2014. It's Tuesday and it's exact date for Nintendo's 125th birthday!

I would be. Look at the type of characters that draw third party slots. All massive names with a huge influence on the industry.

I seriously can't believe anyone thinks the new Fire Emblem rep will be anyone other than Chrom (or Chrom & Lucina as a tag team). He's the main character of Awakening, and main characters get priority.

Wouldn't it be great if for a month they release a beta way before it comes out to test out netplay with like 3-4 characters?

So gameplay wise, everything I've seen suggests minimal landing lag, higher hitstun and higher knockback. I could definitely see the game playing similar to Smash 64 except slightly faster paced and more defensive options (you can punish way too easily in 64 and the game looks like it'll have some of Brawl's defensive options).

I noticed that landing lag earlier with the Mario punching gif, honestly excited to try out this game from this alone.

There's also a chance Avatar/Robin could be Awakening's representative. We've already gotten a generic player avatar character with the Villager, after all, so another one wouldn't be that unexpected at this point.

I would what Zelda will be based off of? Twilight Princess Zelda or Skyward Sword Zelda.

Considering Link, it probably will be mostly Twilight Princess Zelda, but in brighter colors and likely with blond hair (see her OoT colors in Brawl).

PlayStation All-Stars did that and it was a hit. People got to try the game early, and two of the more overpowered characters got hit with the nerf bat upon the game's retail release. It would be a great marketing strategy, and very in-tune with Nintendo's recent trend of releasing demos of a lot of their major releases.

Anyone else think Villager's "pick up" ability is brilliant?

Back when people speculated about Villager (never calling him Villager, but "Animal Crossing Guy" or "Animal Crosser"), they'd dream up fairly bland move-sets for him, I.E. attack with shovel, axe, net, etc. I don't think I saw anyone include a "pick up" ability, though.

I'm guessing it's his neutral B move, because collecting stuff is central to what the Villager does. That's the genius of it -- Sakurai found a way to turn a character's act of collecting into a useful combat move, snatching projectiles (even Samus' charge shot) straight out of the air and pocketing them for later.

I wonder what Samus' charge shot fetches at Nookling Junction or Re-Tail? ;)

They charge you to take the shot of your hands at Re-tail, after all it's a charge shot.

*CRICKETS*

...Ahem, well yeah I like the move both as a reference to the series and in game functionality, it's a change from it being a straight up reflected attack.

Ha! I laughed. :)

Regarding future character reveals, I see a few possibilities:

- The next Nintendo Direct, whenever that may be
- The Wonderful 101 Direct, prior to that game's release
- The Tokyo Game Show this fall (virtual certainty)

His down B (planting a tree) is pretty genius, too. We've got nothing on Sakurai.

Guys, what if we got this version of Sonic when he returns.

I think it would be amazing, I love it. Its a mixture of Classic with Modern Sonic.

Dat Fake Waveland.

SSB4 Wii U and 3DS is looking great, really excited for the final game. Really hope all characters from the series return (Pichu and cut pals included!) even if they get put in either the Wii U or 3DS version only. My girlfriend loves Pichu, and wished it was in Brawl. I dislike when characters are cut from fighting games....like Megaman from MVC2 to 3. I never liked Megaman's games, but I did love to use him in MVC2.

Also, gameplay wise, this is looking to be a good balance of competitive with some good casualness mixed in. :)

BOMBERMAN FOR SSB4!!!

PAC man needs to be a assist trophy and/or a stage.

No new Mario characters in the main cast.

Update the Pokemon trainer for a b&w.

Remove clones for best characters, like wolf for Krystal.

- When they delay the game

I am having trouble finding the interview, but I thought I remembered Sakurai saying the new games could be considered Smash Bros. 64-2 in terms of how they play.

Lucario needs to be in. A Pokemon Trainer with the new starters would be cool, but I don't think that's happening again.

His down B (planting a tree) is pretty genius, too. We've got nothing on Sakurai.
Yes, in addition to the pick up move, the tree-planting/cutting is brilliant, as well. No one saw that coming. :) I also like the subtle integration of other AC references, like plucking weeds at people's feet, running into them and dropping a potted plant, etc.

Heh, it'd be funny if Villager's lore is he was excommunicated from his village for some reason... some dark sinister reason the townsfolk won't talk about. When you play on the Smashville stage, all of the other townsfolk run inside their homes, lock their doors and turn out their lights. So now he's searching for a new home!

On another note, a new Pokémon rep is a virtual certainty. Even aside from the return of Mewtwo with his new form, there are two generations to draw upon for this game. I personally would love playable Chespin, perhaps in a Trainer-style unit with the middle and final form of the other starters (like Squirtle/Ivysaur/Charizard). Of course, I'd have to see all of the forms for the starters to know which combination would be preferable.

Villager, Wii Fit Trainer and Mega Man were just perfect. I can't wait to see what he can do for Mii, Pac-Man, Little Mac and more.

I find it interesting Sakurai actually slowed down Brawl to help ease in new players from Wii's expanded audience. (For the record, I never had a problem with the way Brawl played.)

From what I've read in the articles...Smash Bros. Wii U is getting held back character-wise to accommodate for the 3DS version? Goddamn it Nintendo.

I had my reservations about the floatiness and odd mechanic tweaks like tripping, but the speed was never a major concern for me. SSB4 also looks fine but I'll have to refrain from passing judgement until we've seen more than trailers and a very controlled battle between a developer and the localization team.
