Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS: Info Collection - Dojo, Mega Man and Trailer! 2014!

Yeah, the first part has anecdotal evidence.

Based on raw sales numbers and using Sakurai as a primary source though, I can claim my argument has at least a bit of credibility.

Well when you are on a console that sold nearly 4 times as much, I'd hope your game would sell more.

Pokemon is pretty much the only franchise where I throw my hands up and leave the discussion when trying to guess what'll happen rep-wise for Smash games. All I know is Pikachu and Jiggs are grandfathered at this point.

Haha I remember arguing back then that there was no way Lucario would replace Mewtwo. lo and behold. That's the moment I realized I didn't know jackshit about Pokemon.

Precisely. More sales, wider audience, and higher awareness.

Regardless, I don't want to be pulled into a lengthy debate lol.

I worded my previous posts in a way you could exploit it. I'll just move onto something else.

We're done here.

Wish you had more to say lol.

Pokemon isnt that complicated if you pay attention to who Nintendo is pushing. Right now its a little hard cause X/Y is still unreleased on limited info. But anyone supporting Mewtwo's return is making a pretty good guess.

I want SSB to have a "Battle Director" mode where the person with the touch pad controls things like stage hazards and moving platforms and picks which items appear and when and where and what pops out of a pokeball or assist trophy and do things like drop four crates and fill three of them with bob-ombs and one with food.

I'd like there to be something done with the "fifth player". It would throw off the balance for sure if there was another fighter, but what you're proposing sounds like a neat way to do it.

Maybe something similar to NSMBU could be added as a different mode too. Like all characters are free falling, and the fifth player puts up temporary platforms or something (idk haha).

I hope the randomness he's talking about is optional.

Well at least tripping is out.

Random isn't necessarily a bad thing. Tripping was simply a poor implementation of Sakurai's idea.

Smash has always had randomness. Stage hazards, Peach pulling out a bob-omb instead of a turnip, or Luigi's critical hit on his missile move. Those things are unpredictable and are built into the characters themselves and the game is better for it.

This is an EXCELLENT idea and I can totally see it happening. :)

Also, they should really revisit the stage editor -- with the second screen on the GamePad and 3DS, it'd be easier than ever to create custom layouts. :)

I like this idea.

Yeah, I have exactly same thought of this when I saw Wii U Game Pad and Iwata announcing SSB4 for Wii U and 3DS @ E3 2011. I was hoping that they would put that feature together and it would be amazing feature for 5th player who can kill the waiting time to play the game by trying to royally screwing us over.

This would be amazing! I would absolutely love it. All the matches would be chaotic with me around. :3

I hate the term "silent majority" when it's used without proof.

Unless you have hard evidence (Such as tournament figures), you can't just say "Oh, we have more people who think X, they're just quieter than the people who think Y." You have to prove those people who think X are more common, since the sample says otherwise.

Because this is such a staight forward, good idea for an optional mode....

...it won't happen.

Out of all the people at nintendo who just learned or do not know how the internet works, sakurai is the guy who knows how the internet works.

Interesting.

That's not so simple. Something like Fire Emblem barely saw an increase between the GC and the Wii or even the DS. Same goes to Metroid Prime 3 vs Prime 1. Mario Galaxy saw a significant increase from Sunshine, as did Smash Bros from Melee to Brawl, but Mario Kart went on to explode to a completely different level from DD to Wii.

Even if there's a higher userbase, if your game doesn't appeal to that extra base it won't be selling more.

There's data though, the game's sale numbers. You're the ones who want to invalidate it and favor a much smaller sample.

Samus looks much better on SSB4! Never had realized how ugly her armor design was on Brawl.

One thing that makes me sad is that Mario still has the Fludd and it looks to be as useless as before. :-/

Yeah I'm starting to appreciate Samus' design a lot more with these comparison shots. At first I was ehhh about it because Other M, but I now think sleek Samus is a good Samus. Sakurai better put in proper Phazon Suit colours and not that ugly ass Dark Suit crap. I want my Darth Samus.

It'd be great if the Wii Fit Trainer's alternate costumes were the stereotypical workout gear from each decade going back to the 80s.

Her 70s one would just be a hippy outfight. Trainer Sunbeam

Battle Director idea is like the real time Stage Builder idea from the community pre-hype thread on cocaine, I LOVE it.

Phazon Suit, a proper Gravity Suit palette, Light Suit and Dark Samus please.

I am the only one slightly disappointed by those screenshot comparisons? Looks nearly identical apart from resolution... I mean I appreciate the more cartoony colour scheme a lot. But I feel they should have changed the art style a bit more or, I dunno, just had better graphics. Be it in the lighting or whatever, I don't really know. It just looks too much like Brawl.

I think the 3DS outlines could have looked really cool on Wii U.

Diminishing returns plus the characters aren't equally upgraded in all aspects of their model. They didn't touch Pit's hair much for example (because it'd be overkill at the camera distance they're working with), but look at his wings.

The lighting is better in the Smash 4 shots. I think there are a lot of small improvements, but nothing that really screams out at you, so I can understand the sentiment people have that the new Smash seems graphically similar to Brawl.

I really don't like the outline thing. It makes sense for the 3DS but I can't see that working in high-res on a big screen. Not the way they're doing it anyway.

That being said, I think resolution bump looks great (textures are super sharp!) but yeah, diminishing returns. Maybe it'll look incredible in person.

So question on the WFT's stage.

Is that mirror working differently from mirrors in other games? I remember reading stuff about how mirror's were impossibly hard to program or something.

I assume they just put a second model facing the opposite way in the "mirror"
