Outlast 11-Minute PS4 Gameplay Demo

Why doesn't the protagonist flee the building via the way he came in once he got video evidence of the first few bodies? He certainly sounded terrified enough just filming them.

Thanks for this thread, I've been looking at this on PC thank the Lord its coming to PS4. Damn this looks good, it looks like a movie hehe.

Survival horrors are going to gain a whole lot from Rift. Imagine that game on it.

I hope Sony brings out their Oculus like goggles quick.

Here it is:

* Don't Starve
* Outlast
* Secret Ponchos

All three will be free for PS+ on PS4.

And DriveClub Plus Edition too by the way...

Wow, PS+ FTW. This game looks crazy scary lol. Quite a few jumpy moments.

Really exceptional. Even though it's treading over fairly rote ground (narrow field of view camera vision in dark, narrow, yucky areas), that trailer was effective. It looked super smooth and the ever so slight motion blur + LCD screen colour diffraction leant a certain authenticity to the entire trailer (combined with the breathing).

I look forward to a Spookin' with Scoops of this game later!

Anyone else getting a serious Call of Cthulhu Dark Corners of the Earth vibe?! The lighting, the colours, even the character textures.

Looks scary, the whole darkness + limited view gives me silent hill flashlight vibes.

What is this game running at though, 640x480? jaggies jaggies jaggies and pixel crawling everywhere.

I also hope you can turn that awful filmgrain off, it doesn't look realistic or good it's just ugly and distracting.

edit: got to the part with the zombies or w/e and the hanging man, cheap jumpscares: MEH, not interested in that kind of game.

The running away part was neat though.

While not an excuse for the pixel crawl and such, except for the times the player was climbing up ladders or into vents, the players view was at all times supposed to be via the LCD panel on a handheld camera. I thought the trailer was a pretty accurate representation of what it is like to actually use them, too. Same goes for the film grain.

So I don't know. On one hand it's authentic, but on the other hand the seemingly low res is distracting at times. It probably wouldn't hurt for the film grain effect to be dialled down a notch or two.

Wait, is it possible to buy a subscription which is longer than 1 year?
He probably bought 3 one year subscriptions. You can stack multiple subscriptions on the same account to extend your expiration date.

The best new here is this game will be free for PS+ members... :)

no waaaay! that's awesome news. i've avoided PS+ this long, but since it's required for online multiplayer on PS4 i have to get in on it i guess... and stuff like this certainly helps make it sting less :) (not too interested in DriveClub though)

Eh? It's incredibly stylised due to the handheld camera effect, it looks perfect from that point of view. Also it's an indie title, so the fact that you're even comparing it with a big-budget AAA title like Zombie U should be quite the compliment to the creator.

Since when is Zombi U a AAA big budget game? It's not Assassin's Creed. It's a low budget game, even Ubisoft's president, Yves Guillemot, himself said that.

About Outlast, it looks like a PS3 game, but it's a indie game and Sony are including it with PS+, so people shouldn't expect CG like graphics. Atmosphere though, it's quite well done. But man, just watching a few minutes gives me motion sickness due to the use of chromatic abberation. It was the same with Zombi U, so can't play for a very long time.

This might sound a little weird but I think Sony might be a little too generous with their offerings sometimes. This should just be a game that people should pay a few bucks for tbh. The value PS+ offers is pretty incredible but I think it might border on a bad business model occasionally. All I'm saying is there seem to be a few games that would make a lot more sense to give away for free on PS+ without detracting too much from the value it offers.

Well, some people says Microsoft could spend 1 billion bucks buying third party exclusives, right? I think Sony could spend a lot less for having indie games like this for free for a limited time on PS+

I'm good friends with one of the leads of the Cthuhlu team, even played the beta of the cancelled sequel!, I'll ask him what he thinks of this next time I see him.

WTF happened at the very end?
did it rip his head off his body or something

Also, who is developing this game? I know it's an indie title, but does the team have any history? Previous games etc.

Edit: also to those complaining about not being able to watch it on a mobile phone, GT has it's own free app which lets you watch them on your phone.

It looks like he tore out his innards or something.

Zombie Studios are developing this game. They are also bringing Blacklight: Retribution to the PS4.

It maybe be indie, but if this is UE4, I expect better even for an indie. It's not like this is PS3 at launch where UE3 was not ripe for the hardware.

IMO, all these indie games should be 1080 60fps with aa, this doesn't even have much aa.
And who says gamers aren't entitled? Thanks for playing!

That looked great.

It did make me realize how brilliant the design for Amnesia is though too. The problem with that video was you see the monster several times pretty clearly. Its a gross looking monster thing, but it looks like basically a big dude with a creepy monster face. The brilliance of Amnesia is that by merely looking at the monster, you start losing your sanity and have a harder time seeing the monster. That plus how unnatural the Amnesia monsters walked made them even spookier. That game encouraged you not to look at the monsters which kept them in your imagination longer, which kept them scarier for longer. That plus you'd die pretty quick once they spotted you.

Whereas here, you get pretty clean looks at the monster and get roughed up by him in sort of scripted looking sequences.

Still looks great though. The world needs more survival horror games where you can't fight back.

such a neat idea.

Kinda like.. Freeze Frame? That playstation game where you had to do the haunted house investigations? Fatal Frame?

They should just make Horror Mazes for like 15 bucks or something. That would be a whole lot of fun. Or Haunted House patches, like Ghost adventures...

lovin it. Ditch the camcorder though. Make it "tech glasses" or something..
