I know people who are legitimately upset that people complained about Xbone and refuse to understand what MS was trying to do. One guy kept saying, "OMG It doesn't matter! MS took it out because they felt bad for the gamers and didn't want to screw us over. They never implemented it so I don't know why everyone doesn't want to buy one now." It's not that I hate Xbone. It's the fact that MS tried in the first place, got caught, and want to kiss and make up. It's mad grimy but I digress.
So massive shortages and plenty of pissed off people? Gotcha
Only thing Sony got wrong was the box design.

There was a report a couple of weeks ago suggesting they might be aiming to get manufacturing up to a million a month by September. Parts orders seem to be going in now, if they're starting assembly in July (?) maybe they have 2-2.5 million ready for an end of October launch date. Seems pretty healthy if it works out that way.A lot of people are saying this, but if they're aiming for so many units at launch wouldn't it benefit them to go mid-November? I honestly have no idea how many more they could turn out in a couple of extra weeks, but I would think it would make some difference.
It will be interesting to see what they do.

Do you think it is an accident that the PS4 looks a lot like the PS2? PS2 was one of the most successful consoles of all time - and Sony is doing a LOT to link the PS4 and PS2 together image wise. Smart, really

Pretty strange, also have amazon.com updated there site for Xbox One release date to November 27 2013 - did it always say that?
Dear Amazon.com Customer,
Thank you for pre-ordering the PlayStation 4.
We are writing to inform you that we received additional PlayStation 4 "Launch Day Edition" consoles and have upgraded your order from the "Standard Edition." We've also upgraded your shipping speed to free Release-Day Delivery at no cost to you. This means you'll receive your order the day the console is released (the two editions are identical other than the release-day promise).
You do not need to take any action or make any changes to your current order. Thank you again for your order.
What if the 12 or 16 million number was real? that shit would be crazy to come out swinging like that it would be pretty much over for Xbox One & Wii U because the devs would flood to the PS4 trying to cash in.
They did that for the XBox 360. I didn't get mine for like 3 weeks after launch and I was apparently like 24th on the list.
16 million PS4 for this year is the rumored target? wow
I agree, PS2 (2) in every way.this box design is simple. elegant. beautiful.
you should make a thread about this. Maybe, start a twitter campaign? ;-) Sony seems to be in a consumer-friendly mood, these days... let's try and convince them? I think that box would be KILLER.
Please tweet that image to John Koller. I would buy an empty version of this box tbh, so sexy.
Be either they secured more GDDR5 or got extra capacity from the fab for the SOC. Those be the only 2 parts that could limit them. If the hit targets on both they should be able to ramp up production and have a few million for the holiday season.
That is pure class, son. But I still like the original as well.
The PS4 is nothing like the 360 or PS3 when it comes to ramping up production to launch. It has nothing like Xenos in it that was huge and ran hot for its day. It has nothing like cell and bluray drives are easy to make now. The assembly in china is extremely fast these days. They are going to have a few million of these things out in the market place this holiday season.

They would have to be idiots to actually use a box like that. A product box that doesn't show what's inside in some picture form? That's not how you do it.
Now I know where you work!
This was what the PS2 box originally looked like. It sold well.
The PS4 APU likely dissipates more power than any single chip part from previous gen (Cell, Xenos, Xenon or RSX).

Ha please don't click on our website. That crap is sooooo outdated.
There are two ways to interpret this.
1: Sony is, HECKA confident about being able to produce consoles in large numbers.
2: Sony is hecka confident, but figures that if there are shortages because of this, its just as well anyway.
Not sure, which is more likely. I doubt Sony is trying to deliberately create a situation like with what happened with the original Wii at launch. I'm not sure if they'd be all that upset if it happened though, since those shortages tend to work out well for the console in the long run.
This sounds like Sony is trying to gauge a better demand picture for day 1 and the holidays.
Man it sounds like there's going to be a massive stock of PS4's this holiday. Very nice.
Unlimited?
The shit?

I don't understand how this is possible.

I think people are taking the "Unlimited" part of the article too literally and not recognizing it as obvious hyperbole.
I preordered PS4 at amazon with the launch day arrival guarantee stuff. So -- I think I'm covered.
Now, I'm excited about the PS4 launch like anyone, but when I think about what's coming in terms of games on launch day -- I'm actually not sure what I'll be playing on day one. I'll get watch dogs, but that game likely has one foot in each generation. And KZ might be a nice showpiece but in the past I haven't really cared much about them gameplay-wise.
I'm not 100% clear if Infamous SS is a launch title or not. If it is, then that'll be solid.
Well it's obviously not unlimited, they say in the e-mail until they get word that their limited quantities are used up, keep allowing orders![]()
Which clearly went over a lot of heads in this thread.![]()
