Tera is amazing until you reach level cap. Then it's not amazing anymore. It's a pity too, Tera had the best combat of any MMO I have ever played but God is that endgame horrendous. The Korean MMO endgame curse, I guess.

Curious about dungeons. As I understand it, there's a new instance dungeon about every 10 levels starting with TTD, correct? How about non-instanced dungeons, are there any (or were there any in 1.x) that you can just grind with a party out in the open world?

Also, is the Arcanist being excluded from the beta tests?

I played a thaumaturge until level 8 and I think the combat is terrible. I don't even really want to continue anymore if it's going to be like this. I just spam spells that all take 2.5 seconds to cast while stationary. UGH.

I was just about to post asking when combat gets fun. Playing a Gladiator and at level 9 I have two active attack skills, both on global cooldown of two seconds or something.

Also ran out of quests. :-/

Are they still giving out beta keys for the PS3 version? or are signups for it more or less closed? I played beta for 1.0 on pc, but bailed out for release.

It'd be awesome if some site gave away a few, I've been hearing alot about Reborn from a coworker, would be great to check out either on pc or comfy couch!

So my thoughts on gear in Tera.

One, Tera has rubbish outfits compared to the high rank FFXIV stuff, I vastly prefer Final Fantasy's aesthetic.

Two, the "censored" outfits look better than the original, especially Elins.

Been messing around with keyboard and mouse on PS3, and I have to say that it works rather well. It's nice having the option available, and being able to resize the chat & map windows is very handy (can you do this without a mouse?). That said, I haven't seen a way to change the hotbar over to the keyboard interface, but I may just be missing an option somewhere... Does anybody know if/how you can do that?

I were in the start but the framerate really leaves a lot to be desired. Graphics is great enough for me though.

There's a lot of frame-skipping going on in the PS3 version... that's for sure. But I vastly prefer that to what I get on PC when my frame-rate dips.
I start moving like a snail. Its just plain awful.

My rig isn't anything great but its definitely better than the recommended specs and I lag rather often (though sometimes my FPS gets over 70, even near the aetherytes... I just don't get it).
I don't want to, but I think for the sake of my sanity... I'm probably going to have to play on PS3.

Have you looked into doing the Hunter's Logs. Kill some amount of monsters and get extra EXP. Definitely helped me get over the hump of level 9 to level 10 where a bunch more quests opened up.

Gladiator explodes a bit once you hit 10 (15 really) and can start picking up lots of cross-class stuff to give yourself more to do while solo - imagine juggling poisons and buffs (which come from your attacks) and stuff on top of what you already do. The early Glad levels are all about giving you the tools to tank and hold aggro out of the box.

Casters are in a bit of a weird position and the current caster classes are a bit dull at low level, but that's in no small part because there's just the two of them right now. There are no Arcanists yet for mixing up the skills between all three. If the mined data is any indication, casters are generally going to be a lot more about DoTs and kiting when it comes to soloing, once they put Arcanists in and open it up for cross-classing. It's already that way for Conjurers, assuming you play right. Aero is instant-cast for a reason!

And yeah how are people running out of quests? If anything I find myself with a surfeit of quests, which is good for alt job leveling I suppose. You guys are hitting up the hunter's log alongside the quests, right? The quests often point you to monsters in the log. And you aren't shying away from FATEs, right? You don't need to grind them constantly, but if you see a new one nearby it's worth your time to do it.

Has there been any mmo with good endgame? I'm tired of rerunning raids.

Funny enough, the only class i found fun to play in tera was berserker. Not really a fan of animation priority action games :/

Lucky for you, raids are almost non existent in Tera! :P But really, what do you define as good end game?

I do not believe you can switch to traditional hotbars on PS3, but you can enable a cursor using L1+R3, which toggles cursor mode.

But then I've been playing Tera a lot lately. Tera has a bunch of its own problems, but its combat and movement really put almost every other MMO to shame and makes it difficult for me to go to any traditional combat ones.

Try a different class. Started out with a Conjurer and found it pretty boring too lol but swapped to a Pugilist and found it a lot better.

Also does anyone know how to get the chocobo companion?

Are we going to get character rename options at any point?

For 1.x characters? Supposedly that is one of the things you can change when they allow us to change our 1.x character details later. Possibly in phase 4? I think?

This game really takes too long to get to the good stuff. There's too many restrictions and "tutorial" quests and such. I think more than anything that's my biggest complaint.

This is better than the alternative, which was XI and 1.0, where they told you absolutely nothing and gave you no direction and everyone left because they didn't know what to do.

I mean... we're talking about a game you're supposed to play for years, and there's, like... 1-2 hours of tutorial content?

After seeing what happened in the Oreimo game threads, I know that GAF are total prudes. So an opinion like this doesn't even surprise me anymore. The censored Elin outfits were crudely drawn and a pretty blatant rush job for a market that clearly wasn't a priority market for Bluehole. Regardless of how your personal feelings were about cute Elins, the actual censoring done was awful.

UGH fuck no matter what I can't log in to my account on the beta log in page (PS3). But I'm logged in just fine on the website. Called for support, still on hold.

I miss XI's system where quests actually mattered. Now it's like every other MMO where you stock up on all the quests you can imagine and they're all slight variations of the same fucking thing.

XI's quests were pretty similar to that at the start - it wasn't until later that they became fewer and more story-driven.

I'd imagine that over time the same thing will happen here. Although right now it looks like XIV has a lot more story content from the get-go than anything in XI ever had.

I didn't play 1.0, but I actually enjoyed XI more because it didn't do as much handholding. I could just go out and kill stuff.

I'm still trying to figure out where the next main story quest is so I can do Guildleves and stuff....

Monk and Dragoon have a single target dps limit break
Black Mage gets a AoE nuke limit break
White Mage/ Bard gets an aoe/revive limit break
Warrior/Paladin get an defense booster limit break

Darn that's a bit disappointing. I was hoping that each job/class would have its own distinctive limit break. Sharing some weaponskills is fine, but every other FF game that has had limit breaks were distinctive.

Any possibility of this changing still before launch or is it pretty much set in stone at this point? I haven't been following the developer blogs and videos.

well, Thaumaturge isn't really meant to solo. The problem is level 1-10 is solo until you reach that point, get extra jobs to round that out and start to be able to party. :/

The issue is it takes FOREVER to get to 10.

Only forever compared to WoW or Guild Wars maybe.

It takes about 2 hours or so to hit 10 the first time you play at the slowest unless you are goofing around

My PC is nothing to get excited about, but the PC version's framerate varies wildly for me. I can get 12fps in the city, then go outside and get 40, then go a little further out and get 60, but it never stays anywhere for long. I really need to OC my processor. When it's running at 60 frames it's a really nice looking game.

I'm now level 7 after 4 hours. The problem is that quests that give you exp are too far from each other. If you could grind monsters at a decent clip, I'd go that route instead of going around trying to find quests to do.

Why are you trying to find quest?
This is the standard flow of leveling in FF14 ARR

Start story quest -> pick up side quest around story quest location -> Do all your quest and hunting log monsters that are near those quest -> Turn in all your quest -> Repeat and do your class quest every 5 levels

There is no trying to find a quest.

Because killing monsters doesn't give enough EXP, Same for some of those story quests. I left that desert city mages start in and have been wandering around doing whatever quests are available to me.

What is the level cap? And will it be the same in the beta as in the full version?
Beta level cap for new characters is 30 I think. Level cap in retail is 50

I leveled a fresh THM last week, there is no point in which you constantly dont have something to do. Using your teleport ability cuts down a lot of running around as well.

I leveled a Conjurer in beta really fast just doing the Hunting Logs, it's not that slow as long as you know how to chain XP.

And questing is really fast now outside of the initial "Go around town and talk to everybody" quests. There's a flow to all the quests, and they're grouped up in areas. Just follow that flow. Heck I made it to level 11 and there are still a lot of quests in Thanalan that I haven't finished.

I guess. But I'm constantly running out of MP from some battles because Fire and Thunder are like 12-39 MP points each cast... :/

So I said fuck it and made a new SE account and got past that part. Then I had to input my registration code and I did. Now it's a black screen with the mouse pointer. What the fuck do I do?

This shit better be worth all I've had to do thus far.

Dude... you are playing the class so so so wrong haha.

You DO realize the blizzard buff gives you 200% mana regen right?

You have that transpose skill for a reason. You need to be stance dancing back and forth between fire and ice. Fire for bursting, then transpose into Ice to regen mana while using blizzard to get mana back, then when transpose it back use it again and spam fire again. The class has infinite mana.

Yeah, make sure to read your skills. I just jumped on my friend's Thaumaturge to see what was up. Each spell has an additional effect that can raise/lower the cost of abilities as well as the damage they do.

Blizzard > Fire is extremely cheap to cast, for example.

I haven't seen Blizzard buff/regen MP at all. It's a damage spell like the other two.

I can't even get transpose to work.

Click it->Nothing happens
Cast Blizzard fast-click transpose->nada
Cast Fire fast-click transpose->nada

I'm more worried about getting the damn spells to hotkey on 1-0 on the PS3 version instead of having to use that stupid X double-bar and clicking wildly over that to cast spells. I have yet to learn how the hell I can bind those spells to the keys I want since you can't find them in the normal keybind menu and macros doesn't seem to work.
