Raise the flame shield: Your "controversial" gaming opinion.

Xbone One is a terrible name and may be one of the worst console names yet. Wii is definitely a runner up.

MS should have went with Xbox 3 or even Xbox Infinity. I actually like Xbox Infinity.

I think most self-described "hardcore gamers" live out the hobby vicariously. Outside of a handful of titles, they talk authoritatively about experiences with games they've never played as though it was firsthand experience with words stolen from the opinions of others.

This embodies most of the much-lauded “community” in gaming as a whole:
People talking about things they often haven’t experienced, trying to impress people they don’t know about a topic that rarely matters outside of an individual’s experience.

I could understand getting bored of the GTA formula, but even playing GTA3 for the first time you didn't have fun?

GTA has always run on a bad engine. And the police enemy ai is just... Terrible.

I think Dark Souls has the worst lighting I've ever seen in a game. In range of a melee attack of an enemy you can't see? Yea thats "difficulty". Compound that with no damn pause button, cause difficulty. Add a navmesh that wont let you walk up 2" over planks, doesn't know where dry land and super death water starts, invisible infinitely respawning enemies, and hey why not put parallax on our crosshairs. Cuz "difficulty" amirite?

Chaos Theory's single player is no where near as good as people make it out to be, and I personally thought the multiplayer was better in Pandora Tomorrow, simply for that Cinema map.

The Zelda series, while still being enjoyable and a must play for me personally, has been on a downward trend since Twilight Princess.

Despite pre-ordering a PS4 and knowing which games I'm going to get, neither Killzone or Infamous or any of Sony's major first party offerings interest me in the slightest. Same for Xbox One.

...uh did you play the same Dark Souls? I haven't experienced any of that except for the lack of pausing

Haven't played it, but I do think it's predecessor, Ico, is. Also the reason why I've never bothered with SOTC.
Ico is much better than SotC. Ico has better graphics, controls, etc. SotC is a clunky, horribly muddy game. Almost unplayable. The reason it receives the attention it does because it tried something different. Different does not always equate to good.

Well considering I didn't like Ico, you've really sold me on SOTC :P

Here's mine:

Remember Me is a lovely game. Gorgeous, focused, and innovative, with a story that's pretty damn cool.

I played Remember Me in the same stretch as BioShock Infinite and The Last of Us, and while those big blockbuster games have their undeniable charms, it is Remember Me that delivered the most moment-to-moment game-playing joy.

Anyone who has a hint of love for sci-fi or cyberpunk should definitely give this a shot. The combo-creation tool and memory remixes alone make this game noteworthy. But the presentation, voice acting, and varied environments just put this one over the top for me.

Remember Me!

Competitive settings in games are so god damn boring.

Skyrim is the most boring pos I have ever played.

GTA IV sucks ass.

Uncharted is terrible.

Xbox One still looks better than the PS4 to me.

settings that end in -punk, such as cyberpunk and steampunk, are insufferable shit. the amount of games that have made good use of such things can be counted on one hand.

I have dick all interest in playing a game with a female main character. The industry has yet to produce 1 that could hold my attention for more than 20-30mins tops.

Interesting. Not because it's a controversial opinion, but because it hints at something deeply troubling within you. Absolutely fascinating.

If you'd humor me, could you list those games?

*restrains self from exploding*
;)

EDIT: Just to clarify, I still enjoyed the experience. But, to list some of the things I didn't like: I thought the gameplay was boring and repetitive, the "puzzles" were just a waste of time because they required no thought, bullets didn't feel powerful enough considering how scarce ammo was and the AI was not even close to what they showed in the E3 demo.

Ico is rather meh, but it's still better than SotC.

And any Zelda game is automatically the most overrated game ever. That series is some of the most mindnumbingly boring shite I've ever played.

Well lets see how this goes....

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is the best shooter this generation and certainly the most important and influential. It's popular because its good.

Uncharted 2 is better than The Last of Us, though not by much, and is the best game this generation.

Max Payne 3 is Rockstar's worst game.

Acheivements are better than trophies.

Bioshock is better than Bioschock: Infinite from a stroytelling perspective.

I've already said that Nintendo makes kids games and the Wii U is a toy.

Grand Theft Auto IV is the best GTA game followed closely by San Andreas.

Mass Effect 3's original ending was perfectly fine. Every seemed to miss the point that throughout the entire game your decisions from the first two games were paying off. The constant whining about the ending was really, really dumb and shows that large group of people either weren't paying attention or are incredibly dense.

Halo and its ilk are terrible. Shooting a whole clip into your opponent is absolutely fucking stupid. Jumping 15 feet in the air as a "tactic" is beyond stupid and having the weapons spawn on the map is archaic and absurd.

Loadouts > spawning weapons. Always.

$20 for 2 hours of game is a rip-off, so no thanks Journey.

Sonic and Sega All-Stars Racing Transformed has made the Mario Kart franchise entirely irrelevant to me. I could not care less about Mario Kart 8 at this point and the hype behind that game is completely lost upon me.

I think you described any internet community

I hate Majora's Mask. I bought it when it was brand new, played it for a few hours, then quit. I hated the time limit and how different it was compared to Ocarina of Time. To this day, I still have never completed it.

If they ever remade it for the 3DS, I'd try it again, though.

Bioshock, Infamous and Gears of War are without question the most overrated games of this entire generation.

Edit: ^^^ I also hate MM. I couldn't play it after a few hours. Still have it, but haven't touched it since.

I have dick all interest in playing a game with a female main character. The industry has yet to produce 1 that could hold my attention for more than 20-30mins tops.

Is it because the character is female or is it those games you don't like that just happen to have female leads? If it's the former then I don't know what to say.

deus ex, thief and arcanum. not human revolution though

Fallout series? Bioshock 1 and 2? Skullgirls? Blade Runner? Gatling Gears? Destroy All Humans series? Syndicate? Anachronox? Remember Me? System Shock series? Crimson Skies? Sine Mora?

I mean, the -punk genres are large and widely variant. And while I'm still waiting for some good true splatterpunk games to show up, it's silly to say that only those three you listed were any good.

Nearly every third-person shooter is a fine example of the things wrong with videogaming. The only exception is Vanquish.
Half-Life is a terrible game that ruined the FPS genre, and almost every FPS made after the early 2000s is equally bad, if not worse.
While we're at it, most of Valve's games are average or worse. Portal is excellent, however, as is the CS franchise (and many of the other games that are simply repackaged HL1 mods, like Ricochet).
Every Bioware game made after Neverwinter Nights is bad.
The entire TES series is mediocre despite being built on a great concept (I haven't played Skyrim but I own the other four).
Every single console-based FPS is terrible, from Zero Tolerance to Goldeneye right up to the present.
I have never liked a single Rare game that I've played outside of DKC. Diddy Kong Racing sucks, their shooters suck, Battletoads sucks, Killer Instinct sucks.
Bioshock sucks. So does Uncharted.
Sleeping Dogs was a bad game despite the excellent setting.
The JRPG genre consists primarily (but not exclusively) of derivative garbage with minimal gameplay.

I think that should sufficiently alienate myself.

Nothing really all that deeply troubling about it. Characters like Lightning are walking archetypes that if I replaced the tits with balls you couldn't tell the difference.

Edit: actually, gimme someone like Ellie from the Last of Us and we might have something to work with.

Is it because the character is female or is it those games you don't like that just happen to have female leads? If it's the former then I don't know what to say.

It may be because of the latter. Of the games I did play with female leads I didn't enjoy them on the onset-and the characters made them worse-such as FF13, Tomb Raider etc.

Faith from Mirrors edge was almost passable except for the fact she didn't do much talking outside of the cut scenes, and the game actually physically made me nauseous. I regret buying all 3 games.

MMO boss kills without the work, effort, anticipation, waiting, and real chance of failure to ever get a kill are worthless emotionally and are a 100% grind.

- Melee is better than Brawl.
- Skyrim is just a pretty open world game with nothing remotely interesting to do.
- same goes for Fallout 3.
- all the Grand Theft Auto games start out good but get boring really quickly.
- the Ninja Gaiden trilogy on NES is miles better than the Castlevania trilogy.
- there hasn't been a good JRPG in years.
- Seiken Densetsu 3 is the most repetitive, boring RPG I've ever played.

I'm all for controversial opinions, but this kind of posts always let me wondering "what do you actually like?

Are they different?
Yes. Achievements have a quantified number to represent them. Trophies are merely a symbol. #'s > symbol.

45k plus gamerscore is better to me than "level 12." You don't need an explanation for the achievements where as the level is meaningless if you don't know the means by which its measure.
