Remembering Ryan Davis, 1979 - 2013

Someone needs to make a mixtape of various summer jams with clips of Ryan saying things like "WHAT" throughout, 2 Chainz style.

Oh God... the wave at the end wrecks me. :(

I dunno, I'm conflicted about her tweets. Multiple jokes about his death, complaining that a plane crash that killed multiple people isn't important because of what happened to Ryan, smiley faces, tweeting pictures of nutrition shakes and he glittery nails. It's all a bit surreal.

R.I.P. Ryan, you were my favourite of the bombers, I will miss your energy.

Yup, I know everybody reacts differently but that looks a little bit weird.

Don't really know him. I think he use to work at gamespot? I think I saw him around then, years ago.

RIP though. That's way to young to die, he was almost my age. I'm 36. Kinda scary you can leave this world at any time.

What a great move from John Drake and Harmonix, but so hard to watch. :(

I think its great. Death sucks, but its really amazing when someone passes and you can remember them with laughter, and remember them as they were, at their best.

Personally, I don't believe in heaven but I believe in the power of memory. Memories (and Quick Looks) can help people live on forever.

"Rider meet horse. Horse meet rider" almost had me vomiting with laughter.

One of the funniest dudes of all time.

TBH at this point I think she is taking as best she can, we all have our way of grieving.

I always got the sense that he loved meeting up with the community more than anyone else. He really seemed to get the most excited for the PAX podcasts.

This is totally eerie. Over the last month or so I've gone back and listened to the first year or so of the bombcast in order since I didn't start listening until about '09. After I heard the news today I decided to go back and listen to the next episode I had downloaded. It turns out it was the episode from 11-04-2008. It was the post Halloween episode and Ryan stared the podcast saying, "It's Tuesday November the 4th and you're listening to the Giantbombcast, I'm Ryan D and I'm back from the dead. I hope everyone had a happy Halloween." It gave me chills... I am so tore up right now...

Here's the podcast I was talking about. It's actually a really good one, Brad talks about the ant infestation in his cable modem, they also talk about Gears 2, LBP, NXE... It still doesn't feel real though...

Can someone put the ribbon on my avatar please?

Harmonix stream is making me appreciate just how fun Ryan was. I'm sad and welling up but seeing him wear that Kinect poncho has me pissing myself laughing, turning them into happy tears.

Ryan would have appreciated the jokes...

Just evidence that he was the luckiest duder to find the person that would fit just right with him.

Just saw this thread, awful news and completely unexpected.

Wow, so young. I can't read the whole thread right now, but does anyone know what happened to him to pass so suddenly?

Wasn't he using some sort of machine to make sure he was breathing while sleeping. I remember him talking a out it on the podcast a while back sayin it would wake him up if he stopped. Considering this news broke in the morning I wouldn't be surprised if he died in his sleep from the condition he had.

Jeff tends to be a pretty...I don't know the right word for it? Unemotional? Cynical? guy. I wonder how he's going to cope with this. He doesn't strike me as a guy that would get outwardly emotional.

His tweet about today not being the time for him to talk about it made me really sad. The next bombcast is going to be really hard to listen to.

I hope Ryans family knows that Ryan made a lot of people happy and that I personally looked forward to seeing what he had to say each week even if I didn't always agree with him.

It's quite normal for some people to deal with shocking and horrible news by making light of it or ignoring it in the early days....I wouldnt read too much into those tweets.

I'm shocked, and this really hits me hard. I've been enjoying work from Ryan Davis and the Giantbomb crew since the Gamespot days. It's hard not to feel a connection with these guys after following them for so long, even though I have never met them in person.

Ryan, thanks for all your hard work and the years of laughs.

RIP

It is odd to me his death happened on the 3rd and yet everyone acted business as usual up until today. Why exactly did nobody know?

People cope with death differently. For all we know, she's just putting on a very strong front. I imagine it still hasn't fully registered at this point, but of course I don't know her, so speculating probably isn't the most respectful thing to do.

It's a very sad thing to see a person so dearly cared for pass, especially given the circumstances with being so young and his recent marriage.

Makes you hope you can touch so many people's lives whenever your time may be up.

Not a lot of people knew until either today or yesterday when some of Ryan's close friends got calls from the Giant Bomb crew. I won't posit as to who knew at the time this happened, since we're all in mourning right now.

Maybe Ryan's wife asked for privacy on the matter until something was addressed. His friends and family knowing and dealing with the loss before letting the Internet know for example is not unheard of.

I feel so sad. RIP Ryan, the bombcast gets me through work days and I feel like I know these guys, I'm in tears and feel depressed, for a man I have never met and know very little of I feel like he was a part of my life in form of podcast and I will deeply miss hearing his voice and antics, seeing him on I hate Mondays and all......I have never felt this way about a person passing that I never knew. Wow wow wow this fucking sucks!!!!
