Remembering Ryan Davis, 1979 - 2013

I dunno man, it seems like pretty genuine sadness at the end of the video.

He's back home and his dad died a year and a day before this video was made.

Not a giant stretch to say he remembers going to Bulls games or playing a Jordan game reminded him of times with his father.

Perma-ban him for an off-color remark directed toward someone known for loving off-color remarks?

I realize many, many people have been affected by his passing, but come on, even his wife is making jokes about it...

You think she made a joke because she thought it was funny? It's obviously she is in a tremendous grief and need some distractions to help her recover. None of us is in her position and none of us should be allowed to make a joke about Ryan's death.

just saw thia on reddit and thought it was some sort of sick joke

god damn i cant believe it, he just got married too

This shocked me pretty bad. It will be hard to adapt to the idea that one of the bombsquad is gone. For some reason I just expected to be seeing them do their thing forever.

Last time a death shocked me so was when Patrice O'Neal died.

honestly patrick doing that video before ryan's death is even worse. He was clearly alreay shaken up by the anniversary coming and the new move back home, you can only imagine how he felt the next day with the news

that plus not being able to be there for everyone else

poor exxy

He would hate your comment a lot more then the jokes.

He was a troublemaker till the end. He hated serious. It's weird that so many of you are totally blind to this.

I feel like this issue shouldn't even be up for debate. Premium members can see when a video has been uploaded, plus it doesn't seem like he's genuinely upset about anything other than having to play that game.

Plus, Patrick is a professional, but I highly doubt he's going to even think about work when his close friend just passed away. This is a completely stupid discussion. Can we just drop it already?

Interesting that you think only she has the right to cope with grief through comedy, especially when Ryan hated when people got too serious.

Freaked out when my little brother broke the news to me through a text message, I was at work.....

Can't even believe it. Someone who I listened to who brought my unbelievable amounts of joy for the past half a decade.... Gone.

I usually am very cold and calculated about death unless its directly involved with me/my family, and it just goes to show how much Ryan touched all of our hearts through his amazing work.

The industry has lost one of the greatest of all time. Games journalism will literally never be the same.

Rest in peace friend.

Thanks to Giantbomb for celebrating Ryan's life by reposting some of Ryan's old videos on their front page. It's a little bittersweet, but I'm glad we can take these moments look back and enjoy the life and times of Ryan Davis. I hope this is a sign that Giantbomb will move forward and conquer this new challenge with the same confidence and character that I think Ryan would want them to take.

Don't even compare our grieves to her. She just fucking lost her husband! Most of us can get over it a few days and there is no comedy necessary. Can't you guy wait a little longer to make your joke?

Bummed we will never get to hear him talking about California Extreme. Ryans tangents on the bombcast were always my favorite as ive grown to give less and less of a shit about videogames. Its weird my strongest memories of him were matress buying tips, and hummingbird feeder masks.
I'll miss his Disneyland stories. I love Disneyland too and hearing his stories makes me happy, you can tell he loves the place. Even the drink he served at his wedding was inspired by The Shipwreck at Trader Sam's at the Disneyland resort.

Hard to know what to say. I knew him from the Bombcast. He was cheerful, funny, and smart. He was the bomb-glue that tied everything together and gave everybody a space to talk. Condolences to his wife and all his friends; I cannot imagine what they are going through.

There will be other Tuesdays, but there will never be another heyeveryoneitsTUUUUEEEESSSDAY. Rest in peace brother.

That's just a load of crap. Although Ryan's passing is a serious matter, that doesn't mean that we can't derive levity from it. I daresay that Ryan would more appreciate the jokes being made than the serious responses like yours. You really can't tell other people how they are allowed to deal with news like this.

Some people cope with grief with comedy. Some people can't communicate their feelings and instead use jokes to cover them up. And his joke, while it was a kinda lame joke, wasn't offensive.

Besides, Ryan, I'm sure, would want us to laugh.

Heard about this earlier today from a co-worker and just had to post my condolences.

Terrible news. R.I.P. dude...been a fan since the days of Arrow Pointing Down.

I know what you mean. Anytime a major movie is released I think, man, what would Ebert have thought of it?

I know when I pick up my PS4 from Gamestop, I'll be thinking about what Ryan would have been talking about during that time.

I know exactly what you mean in regards to Ebert. I was so hyped to watch the crew get together to play XBONE and PS4 at launch too. God damn :/

I have been following Ryan and the rest of the crew since the gamespot days (2003). Easily one of the funniest people in the crew. I feel like I lost a good friend. :(

I've been with my son all day, so I feel like I haven't really been able to process this. I keep checking GAF, and this topic hits me hard every time I see it, as if I'm somehow hoping it's a bad dream.

Not gonna lie, im still doing a double take every time I see the title of the thread. I keep going back and forth as if I was rediscovering it or realizing what it truly means going forward.

i feel sorry for his family, friends and the staff at Giant Bomb. the thing with listening to podcasts is you start to feel a connection to those you hear. I've been listening to the bombcast for many years and I really feel just gutted as though someone I actually know has passed. It's a terrible loss, he was such a great lively voice in the video game industry.
