Remembering Ryan Davis, 1979 - 2013

This is still cutting me pretty deep - listened to the last bombcast he hosted - all the talk about him dying under a fallen arcade machine and him getting married at the weekend :(

Lord only knows how Jeff and the rest of the guys are taking it :(

That Olly Moss sketch is lovely. Can anyone explain the the origin? I know Ryan requested the drawing but I'm unfamiliar with the content. Sorry.

Apparently Ryan had been requesting that he do a Koffing for quite a while, and it's in the style of his most recent giclee prints that he's been doing

Yeah, seems that he took a nap and never woke up. That sleep apnea probably caught up to him. It sucks that nobody got to say their goodbyes, but I don't think Ryan would have liked any sort of serious sendoff anyway.

His wife's tweet of sending her brother to wake him up on July 3rd is heartbreaking, whether it had anything to do with his death or not. She didn't tweet again after that for 2 days.

Yeah, this is still a blow for me. I hope all the outpour of fan support is comforting to the GB staff and the Davis family.

I guess I didn't realize how important the Giant Bombcast was in my everyday life. I think whatever the guys do with the show will be great, but obviously not the same.

How? The non Ryan podcasts are the worst. I have no idea how they can recover from this. You can't replace a god.

They'll still produce good, even great, content, but yes, Ryan's absence will be forever noted. Jeff, Vinny, Brad, and Dave would be a great regular crew, with Drew popping in and out at times.

That first show is going to be a tear fest though. By now, I imagine they'll be able to hold it together, I'm not sure about the listeners.

Dave left a few months ago and is no longer at the CBSi offices, so doesn't seem likely that he'll pop up on the Bombcast regularly. Maybe Rorie?

Well, whatever. They should take their time to figure things out for the next few weeks. Things'll be different.

Sorry, I meant Drew as the regular and Dave as the occasional pop-in guy when he can.

This was posted just as I got to work, and I've been following this since
I was sure its a stupid joke at first, but when I realized it was real... :/

I didn't realize how much I love Giant Bomb until this happened, I check visit their site daily and started listening to the Bombcast a few months ago (I've yet to listen to the last 2 podcasts, don't know if I will now)

Ryan was a funny dude, I'll miss him.

Thank you and to everyone else who responded. I'm a Pokemon illiterate.

The negativity of the internet brings me down a lot but the outpour of love for Ryan is awe inspiring.

someone probably already posted this but
the only public post on his facebook haha:

PopCorners fans, what is your favorite flavor?
Cheesy Jalapeno

“@jeffgerstmann: Sorry, one guy who said we should do one last episode and then stop doing the podcast forever. Not gonna happen.”

Yay.

I just heard back from Matthew Rorie regarding the memorial tee. I'll go ahead and post his email below.

I appreciate the thought, but for the moment I think we're going to try and keep this stuff in-house. We're going to discuss how we can move forward with something like this at the appropriate moment, but we haven't really begun to talk with his wife and family regarding if they even wants to do something like this. Until we get a feeling from her and Ryan's family as to what they want to do, I think it'd be best to relax and focus on remembering Ryan rather than putting together some kind of hasty memorial fundraiser when we're not even sure where that money would go or if it would be necessary.

Whatever it was, they've got to know by now.

Since we didn't hear of the cause yesterday, I am wondering if we ever will.

Which will drive me crazy.. FOREVAR!!!

For whatever reason, friends and family don't want people to know what happened.

I'm assuming it was general health issues (ie heart problems etc) due to his lifestyle, or potentially drugs (leaning towards the former).

ARGH. Can we stop guessing how he died? Christ. When and if his people are comfortable sharing information they will do so. Until then, I hope we can stop speculating about this. Especially tossing around things like "drugs."

Sometimes people pass away and doctors can't determine what happened right away. Other times the family just needs some time to grieve before an announcement is made. Or both.

As far as the podcast goes, it is very strange, since basically deep down the foundation seemed to be Ryan and Jeff's friendship. They were definitely the core of it. Such a loss.

The next Bombcast is going to be so hard to listen through - but I think it will help to start the healing :(

I need to hear the guys talk right now.
