Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS: Info Collection - Dojo, Mega Man and Trailer! 2014!

There's a 3D Land stage and a NSMB stage, that's the NSMB one.

Those Doughnut Blocks are the same design as the 3D Land ones and the perspective on the background blocks makes it look like 3D Land's 1-1.

I don't think that's an NSMB stage they're showing today.

also a MonHun rep would make a lot of sense. Not a fan of the series but wouldn't mind seeing one in.

Yesss, the more believers the better! The only thing that hurts the Hunter's chances are the fact that we've already got a Capcom rep. As much as I would love a Hunter, I just can't see there being two reps for the same third party. :(

We've seen the 3D Land stage. It's on platforms with spiked pillars that break through

There's nothing that deconfirms the possibility that today's image and this image are part of the same stage, is there?

I've only noticed it with the ported stages, but yeah I agree that the levels being roomier is better.

Sector Z (64) > Corneria (Melee)
New Pork City confirmed for best Smash stage ever

never gonna happen. fucking capcom.

I don't understand this joke, I just play along with it
I know. First killing Mega Man, and then all but killing off the Castlevania series. God damn, Capcom.

It's all a huge reference to this thread if you didn't already know: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=109071

Does anyone here still play Brawl? Just today I felt like playing a bit over the internet, and I can't seem to find any opponents despite waiting for quite a while in the "registering opponents" screen. I'd be all for trying to play against any GAFfers (ones in south america would be prefered due to lower ping, though).

All this reminds me how bad of an idea it was to give the Wi-Fi waiting room one of the shortest, most repetitive songs in the whole game. Why can we set the music for nearly every part of the game but this one?

Kirby should wear Wario's explorer cap when he swallows Wario. It would be a neat reference to the first two Wario Land games and it avoids the problem that Wario's classic outfit still results in giving Kirby Wario's biker hat.

It's definitely a NSMB stage today.

Can't imagine why they'd make a dedicated side-scrolling stage to represent 3D Land anyway.

I'm not so convinced either way. Just looking at the two, they've got an identical skybox, the clouds are the same in each and likely just at different points in scrolling.

Today's daily picture looks a lot like world 1-1 of 3D Land:

The doughnut blocks are taken straight from 3D Land as well:

I'm fairly certain they're 3D Land levels, or a single scrolling one. Scrolling might be a stretch, since the background geometry changes pretty drastically, but we do now know that both levels scroll and take clear inspiration from one game in particular.

It just really doesn't feel like it captures the spirit or visuals of 3D Land in any capacity, despite containing the 3D Land arrow sign. The overall art style and color choice is much more NSMB2. Also, as a sidescrolling stage, I'm not sure how that part with the three balancing platforms over the ocean would really fit in whatsoever. That's a much more traditional design.

I could concede to the idea of 3D Land and NSMB2 being combined as just a "3DS Mario Games" stage more than thinking of this scrolling one as exclusively 3D Land, but I still don't think it's the same stage as the one over the water.

I've got nothing against the current strain of Mario games, but it is quite telling when we can't even agree on which game the stage is referencing.

I'm hoping for reference to this one:

If anyone will begin to acknowledge the Virtual Boy is it Sakurai. I will be very disappointed if we don't get something in red and black.

If I remember Sakurai thinks wario's more noble stuff is the ware series. While there is a chance, be prepared for more minigames is what I am saying.

I think maybe it's not really pulling from specifically one or the other and is just generic platformer Mario game stage with some assets borrowed? If I had to guess one or the other, I'd go with 3D Land.

This makes me wonder how many Mario stages we'll get between the two new games. There's just so much to pull from.

Turns out. They're the same stage. Could have fooled me.

I read that, I guess I just didn't think about it too much. It's weird though, I wonder what kind of transition is going on there. Maybe like Delphino, where you're lifted from scenario to scenario? They sure are super-different places, though. Maybe more like the F-Zero stage, some serious distance is covered there.

Also: I hate these friggin moving/scrolling stages anyway.

Probably like Rainbow Cruise where it will scroll in different ways at certain points in the stage.

I don't feel like getting into it, but the more I think about the Mii/Little Mac/Pac-Man rumor, the more I'm convinced that it's all a big misunderstanding. With the Mii in particular, there's just too much at odds with its inclusion. Wii Fit Trainer does a perfect job of representing Nintendo's casual games by herself (and she even has some attacks used by the Mii). Also, Villager has the cutesy, mute avatar role already covered (not to mention a bowling ball, boxing gloves, and balloons).

Yeah but Sakurai has said theres going to be some form of customization.

Mii could end up being a character you can customize the moves of, sorta like the robot guy from Tekken and Emerl from Sonic battle.

Well in the two games defence they both use SMB3 as a reference point so it's not surprising their first levels have a similar aesthetic.

Miis have a broad range of possible moves covered by neither of those characters. Also they are far from silent.

Even so, I could see them including Mii, as it was one of the most recognizable parts of the Wii generation for a lot of people. Plus they could get some Pilotwings references in its moveset, and make it a general party/sports/OS character as well. Maybe some Streetpass plaza moves with the magic/swords.

Not really the most exciting character but I could still see it happening I guess.

Yeah, as well as every other Mario game with "New" in front of its title. Same is same is same. I've got no hate for the level, though. I'm sure it'll be side scrolling madness.

Also, GameTrailers has unveiled their own SSB4 roster hopefuls for what it's worth. Any news is fun news, speculative or otherwise.

EDIT: No they didn't. False advertising on both their part and mine. It's a tease for a video that will be shown on Friday. Sorry, folks.

Worse than that, the actual poll is quite awful. The number of votes for Reggie, Jesus and "my penis" is pathetic.

I'll still watch the video when it comes out. As you say some news is better than nothing.

As well as Nintendoland moves. Mii could actually be a really versatile, goofy character, considering all the crazy situations they've been in.

Hahaha.

Let's see, in the top ten we have:

Reggie, Conker and Banjo (lol what are Microsoft copyrights), and fucking GOKU.

I could see them making Mii having a moveset from games like Wii Play/Motion, Wii Sports/Resort, Wii Party, Pilotwings Resort, and the StreetPass games. There's plenty of games where they were used, so there's a decent amount to work with.

Sure, but most people know of Miis from Wii Sports, and all of those sports are already covered by other characters. I also don't see why they'd give Villager boxing gloves -- something that isn't even in the Animal Crossing games -- if they planned on making Miis playable. Surely Wii Sports boxing would take precedent over something that has no canonical basis.

I'm calling it now: there will be a Wuhu Island stage with randomly generated Miis in the background pulled from your system and/or StreetPass data. They aren't going to be playable, though.

Are we sure the gloves are a move and not an item?

We've only seen the Villager with them, in two separate screen shots. We've yet to actually see any items (besides a capsule), so it seems unlikely to me that there would be a convenient stealth boxing glove item reveal that only Villager can be seen using.

Yeah, that's a good point. Still seems weird given that Little Mac and Mii would seemingly come with boxing gloves too. But I guess there's also the balloon fighter reference that is just loosely tied to AC.

How are things like the Balloon Fight move, bowling ball, and boxing gloves related to Animal Crossing? I haven't played it a ton, but what I've played has never involved any of those things.

That's exactly the problem. From a design perspective, if all three characters were going to be in the game, there's absolutely no reason for Sakurai to invent boxing gloves (which don't exist in Animal Crossing) for the Villager to use.

I know it's an unpopular opinion because the leaker was right about Wii Fit Trainer, but I'm sticking with my gut feeling. Pac-Man might be playable, but I wouldn't be so sure about Mii and Little Mac just yet.

The balloon move can be a reference to balloons that will hover over the town with presents attached to them. You never actually have a balloon hat in the game though. In the first AC you could play Balloon Fight for NES.

I really don't know about the gloves and bowling ball.

There's a boxing ring you can put in your house, but there aren't any boxing gloves. You can also install a bowling alley, but you can't actually bowl. They're both for show. On the other hand, boxing and bowling are huge parts of Wii Sports, which is why it doesn't make sense to give the Villager that kind of representation instead of a prospective Mii. It makes even less sense to muddy their individuality by giving them both boxing and bowling moves, which is partly why I doubt Miis will be playable.

Little Mac is a shoe-in.
