Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS: Info Collection - Dojo, Mega Man and Trailer! 2014!

If we got a Mario RPG character, only one I could actually see happening is Paper Mario. Would love for Fawful though, but I think Geno's a lost cause given his obscurity.

I'm kind of hoping that, if Sakurai includes Paper Mario, he just trolls everyone by making his whole moveset sticker-based.

If there's a character that could have an unique "alternate" version similar to Link & Toon Link, Paper Mario could work great.

You can't safely say that Geno is highly requested, though. Loudly requested by a small, vocal fanbase, sure, but most people have never even heard of him. It's also worth mentioning that Geno's fanbase has all but disappeared since the Brawl days anyway.

Yeah I do agree with this. That why it's only an assumption. I'm not expecting him to be considered, just that relevancy wouldn't hurt his chance on the basis he is considered. Even if he was relevant, I still think it would make no difference since even Megaman was relevant and he wasn't considered during Brawl. Though Geno might have had a better chance of being considered only because he does originate from a Mario game so perhaps they did consider him when looking through the list of Mario characters.

I think at the end of the day we can all agree that Waluigi is the best Mario newcomer :)

I'm kinda hoping Sakurai doesn't introduce any new characters from a franchise already represented with a fighter, except Ridley.

I rather have it all new franchise characters than another Mario or Zelda one.

Isaac needs to be in Smash. Not as a stupid assist trophy, as a character. Damn it Sakurai.

Obviously Isaac's Move Psynergy is game breaking.

:(

If Geno is a SE character can someone explain this to me?

I actually like Matthew's design better, despite not having played Dark Dawn.

Having Matthew/Isaac/Felix won't matter since outside of name and aestethics they function the same. And all can wield the Sol Blade.

I'd just like to see one Golden Sun character represented in a playable form. The other 2nd parties should also get a rep as well. Like Monolith for example.

I honestly can't understand all this Geno love. I've played SMRPG and I loved it. Geno was a really cool character too, probably the best one in the game. But he hasn't appeared as an important character in any other game. He isn't that important, just one more Mario character.

Wow Square Enix.

Wow.

I've never really understood the fascination for the character myself. Most of the time the reasoning I got was because his one attack simply did a lot of damage. Isn't Geno just some spiritual entity that inhabits a wooden doll?

I came off of Super Mario RPG wishing that I could play as Bowser more. Still the best depiction of Bowser, too. Haiku-dropping man.

Best character as in gameplay wise? Nah that honor belongs to peach. Dat group hug, frying pan, safety ring, lazy shell combo. <3

You just answered it. Mario RPG is one of my all time favorite games so I'd love to see Nintendo acknowledge him somehow again be it playable character or assist trophy.

Yeah, but Geno is a really obscure character. I'd want him but I just can't see this happening. On the other hand, I'm really surprised that we see as regulars Earthbound characters. A franchise that has essentially been killed is represented by two characters in Brawl.

At least Geno's abilities are fairly unique. Most people don't really think about how a character will be implemented when they way they want it. There are much better suggestions that have been made, but there's also been worse.

As for being in a series, Ice Climbers weren't part of a series. Pit wasn't in Japan. Ness, Lucas, Shiek, and Roy weren't in more than one game.

They're all the protagonists of their respective games, though. (Except for Sheik, who's an alternate form of another character.) Geno's not nearly the main character of Super Mario RPG.

The thing is, Smash Bros. already has pretty much all of the major characters covered already. All of Nintendo's big franchises have multiple representatives. If we are going to have any number of newcomers, a good chunk of them are probably going to be obscure, minor, or unexpected. So at this point, a character being obscure is hardly grounds for counting them out of the next Smash Bros. game.

I would say "does this character bring in an interesting play-style" is a more likely reason for inclusion or exclusion at this point.

Those characters are also all owned by Nintendo. Honestly I still don't understand how Square Enix managed to get the rights to the Super Mario RPG characters, it's not like they gain anything from having them considering they can't make Mario games of their own either.

They probably made them and the contract said they'd get the rights.

Yeah, it's still a dumb idea, but not the worst.

The following have all been the primary protagonist or antagonist of at least one game:

Toad
Bowser Jr.
Paper Mario
Dixie Kong
King K. Rool
Ridley
Chrom
Mii
Little Mac

They're by no means Mario/Link-tier characters, but I wouldn't call them obscure. They're certainly on par with (or more important than) some of Brawl's newcomers like Ike, Lucas, Wolf, and Zero Suit Samus. Combine them with Villager, Wii Fit Trainer, Mega Man, retro characters, and another third-party, and you've got a pretty decent set of newcomers. We haven't quite reached the bottom of the barrel yet.

Well one could say the same about Megaman, Sonic or Snake, no? Especially since I doubt Square has a problem letting Nintendo use such an old and forgotten character.

When I think of Square, I think of fast-moving decisions and an openness to work with using old, forgotten characters for outside use.

The 4chan hive mind got behind Geno, and that's been mistaken for true demand for years.

As little as we need more Mario characters, after how adorable the toads were in Dark Moon I'd be totally down for Toad getting the spotlight in more games from now on, including playable in Smash

I know I'm in the minority here, but I'd prefer Adam as the second (third?) Metroid rep. Adam could even use a similar moveset to Snake's if he were to get the axe.

Toad is gonna be the next new character introduced. its time for him to fight.

Sakurai will remove peachs toad move.

I would suspect that the next Mario character (if there is one) would be a 3 way battle between him, Bowser Jr., and Paper Mario. Of those three I would say that Toad easily has the most importance to the series, he has been a major recurring character in practically every Mario game released, and in recent years has gotten several new playable appearances which are crammed with moveset potential for him. I still don't understand the vocal Waluigi fanbase that believes he is the next Mario character for Smash, it's a side character seen largely as a joke, who has only appeared in Mario spinoffs to boost roster count most of the time. Simply put I feel like Toad is the last iconic or well known mainline Mario character not put into the game. (aside from putting in generic Goombas and Koopas)

I'm more a Sylux guy instead of choosing a Metroid character to serve as a moveset swap replacement if Snake doesn't reappear.

We need more Fire Emblem, simply.

Chrom/Lucina double unit. Or a mage. Or even a FE villain.

Really Smash needs a few more villains.
