Fighting Games Weekly | July 15-21 | Post-EVO Pillow Talk

Didn't he used to get booed back in the day? How times change.

Anyone who wins every single tournament gets booed or otherwise disliked, and then people make rationalizations like it was a problem with the characters they played or how they acted. People want the underdog story, and for once Justin was the underdog (like he was against Daigo in 2009).

One thing extra I would say about Nemo he is a very streaky players.l. Even sets he won, there were periods in it where he would go 4-5 games in a row without a win. And he respects absolutely nothing in this game, he will go in and he WILL press buttons.

So it was only 10 dollars a game....I remember when Jwonggg said "5k means a lot to people"......in 2006.

If their was no pot bonus then the pay has gone down now since the percentages have changed, I assume. I remember Fuudo saying he won 10k back in 2011 and Viscant said he won 8500 or something when he won backin 2011. Only 4-5k for Marvel and SF4 seems kind of depressing. It's just such a big and prestigious tournament that only that amount of money doesn't seem to do it justice.

word, justin wong was what is chris g now back in the mvc2 days

man that offstream match of louffy vs mago on srk is so hype. Ending quote is hilarious lol. Some good rose play to look at for me

Even though that Ultra got nerfed, it still gets me salty. Rose beats my character(Evil Ryu), and whenever I get some momentum going she just activates ultra and now I have to curl up like a baby hoping I don't get blown up by whatever is coming. That Ultra alone practically won 2 rounds for Luffy.

He plays Storm/Akuma and demon flipped his way to grand finals to barely lose to a Zero/Vergil player.
The match up isn't as lop sided as you may think. Wolverine mauls Vergil and Hawkeye, he just has to survive against Zero. Storm at second position keeps Zero in check and with enough meter Storm can inflict enough chip damage on Zero to force him into a mistake. Justin's whole plan was to get Zero to block a Tatsu and he would float with Storm for a good 20-30 seconds just for that one mix up opportunity.

Justin's biggest challenge though was ChrisG. Every other match up was within his team's power to defeat. The last match he lost was because he got greedy trying to kill Zero without meter, he was feeling himself a bit too much there from all the hype powering him.

okay, im actually watching this video and getting confused

ki3 has become bloated since announcement like divekick

stop trying so hard to make a deep game

I can't watch this at the moment so could someone make a summary of the mechanics after they're done watching it?

you can cancel blockstun into a counter move (ex) that initiates a combo

you break 5 hit specials by inputting the breaker with good timing on 3 of the 5 hits

when attacking you can bait breakers (counter breaker)

i think

That actually sounds like DOA

(I know next to nothing about DOA or KI other than both having wacky animations)

Also, there seems to be some misconception amongst casual gamers and some game developers that fighting games are just RPS buried underneath a layer of execution. Most of the good ones aren't rock paper scissors, except Virtua Fighter I guess.

Yea they basically explained Shadow Counters and Counter Breaker (Bluff system).

The Counter Breaker stuff I explained already before. Shadow Counters is sort of like an alpha counter plus reversal, you spend meter during block stun and go into a 10 frame state where if you get hit during it will initiate the counter allowing you to get out of the pressure. If you mistime the counter obviously you will be punished.

Oh I forgot to mention one important thing... as compared to the E3 build now EVERYTHING is breakable in the EVO build. This includes Linkers and Enders as well.

I agree. I used to bring this up on SRK back in the day but people would avoid the question like the plague. No one wants to talk about how embarrassingly little these prizes are.

It needs to change for the scene to grow. Sad as it is, more money attracts more attention.

That sounds terrible.

What's there to talk about? It's not like the FGC has the money to make these pots bigger. The question probably wasn't avoided; there just isn't a solution. Gonna be hard pressed to ask more from players who will always complain about any price increase. I don't see how you can ask the TOs (most of which are losing money or making very little) to sacrifice even more money. There just isn't a good solution. I'm also anti-esports, but they have to make money if they're going to sponsor FGC events. Not sure what they'd make money selling.
