honesly this looks like Warcraft 3.

This is a hero called Anti-Mage in Dota the mod

This is the same character in Dota 2

There are both more and less egregious example of Valve cribbing from Wc3's art style and character design.

The point is if the characters looked too different from their original incarnation a lot of the mod players would be upset. Valve made the best of the situation they could.

man, watching this quick look reminds me of learning DOTA 2, and trying to teach others why its so great. it's such a hard game to get started with - the learning curve is steep and the fun seems locked behind a huge wall of information. trying to teach someone is hard because you end telling them advanced mechanics that don't make much sense to them (brad trying to get vinny to deny a creep, discussing tower aggro, etc).

i'm glad brad stuck through and learned how fun DOTA can actually be.

the blind elf in WC3 was a really cool character I thought. That Dota2 variant looks assy comparatively. He doesn't even wear a blindfold.

Man, having been gone for a week, coming back to a GB filled with a bunch of new QLs is so great. Looking forward to going through these

So DOTA 2 is f2p now? When I tried to play before it cost money.

It was always intended to be f2p, but was put behind a paywall during the beta. That being said there were free beta keys floating around everywhere. I for example got about 15 keys throughout the whole beta and ended up deleting 10 of them.

Pretty good Dota 2 quick look. Vinny was doing a pretty solid job in the tutorial, he was last hitting pretty well and only died once. And yea, there's a lot of shit in this game, even outside of playing it, with all the store stuff, watching games from tournaments, the Compendium, Guilds, Teams, Chat channels and so on.

I started playing Dota around 2006 and for a very long time I didn't really realize how crazy and arcane that game must be to "outsiders". If you played a lot of Warcraft 3 and some of its custom maps (Aeon of Strife, Hero Arena), it was very easy to learn Dota back then because the heroes in Dota were very similar to the ones in WC3. A lot of people who played WC3 actually looked down on Dota because you only had to micro-manage one unit, no base building and so on.

Who the heck is Kessler? I'm not sure I've ever seen/heard that name before.

I was about to pull up the fear gauntlet videos that he did, but then I looked at the giantbomb youtube page and holy shit his video about completing daedric quests sure gives giantbomb a lot of traffic.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EVtKfg8T7ro&list=TLImZBATsPE0k

It's the most viewed video on their channel in fact!

I could see the argument on why he might be a prospective hire into the team.

Kessler would be a terrible fit. He is majorly awkward and his sense of humor and opinions on games are not even close to that the of the giant bomb team. You may like Kessler that's all good but anyone that says he is a perfect fit for Giant Bomb must never go to the site or listen to the podcasts.

I have been on Giantbomb for years and have pretty much consumed every single piece of media they have put out since.

Kessler is a great fit. Deal with it.

Edit: Why you editing on me, bro.

I was watching an old Unprofessional Friday where Ryan was playing Surgeon Simulator and it was really strange to hear him talk about the guy's heart stopping.

I always liked to think that people were hating on Kessler because he pretty much is (my perception of) the average Giantbomb user made manifest. :p

Don't really have a problem with the bro though. He was enthusiastic and awkward in a likable way.

I enjoy Kessler's enthusiam but holy hell, standing by him in the line for their most recent PAX East panel was quite an experience. Dude was being extremely loud and obnoxious the whole time.

Hooooly fuck, the mid lane tutorial mission is annoying as fuck to watch. READ THW QUESTS! Brad should be paying attention and actually helping Vinny learn.

Edit: having brad on this quick look is actually a bad idea. He's got a good grasp on the game, but not enough to be teaching people. He ends up just hindering Vinny learning, because just enough information so Vinny thinks Brad will tell me everything he needs, but then often leaves him hanging when he actually needs help.

Dunno where all this Kessler talk came from but I really think he would be a good fit for the current GB crew. There are a lot of games out there he could cover that most of the crew don't care about.

The Fear Gauntlet (especially Condemned 1) is some of favorite GB related content.

You've been waiting for it

Quick Look: Dota 2
I was shouting and sobbing at the screen instead of Brad, so I guess it went as expected.

Good job calling out Jeff when he went overboard with the disses, though. :D

When he let Vinny head out for the first time without any items I was actually clenching my fists.

edit: That said, I liked the QL (Dota 2!), looking forward to see Vinny and Drew join the daily dota lineup
