Phil Fish has Twitter tantrum, cancels Fez 2 and goes home with his ball

So, see you next week?

Sounds to me that the Gametrailers afair was pretty childish; I'm not a fan of Fish, but that was uncalled for.

Most of the stuff Marcus Beer says is uncalled for. He should show some respect and professionalism. I know it's supposed to be an act, but it's not cool when things like this happen.

Yep. There's a lot of twofaced 'phil fish is rude' and 'lol what a whiny bitch' going on in the last 3 threads.

How is it rude to call him whiny when he's being exactly that?

I guess Fish can escape from criticism on the grounds that everyone must play nice and never call anyone out on anything.

This might sounds crazy, but just leave Twitter?

Exactly, just stop interacting on social media and do what you love: making games. Is twitter like coffee break to him? This tells me he wasn't enjoying what he was doing. Letting angry comments(that he wouldn't have got/read if he wasn't on twitter) decide whether to keep working or not, wow.

Good luck to him. Hopefully he won't have to deal with abuse on the internet, whatever he ends up doing with his own life.

No matter if he is leaving or just messing with us, he gets this from me

I wish him all the best in his future endevors.

Even though I don't agree this gif is AMAZING! I'm stealing this LMAO!!

I agree with the "he should just quit twitter instead" stance.

Look it's okay. Some people aren't good with other people. Hell, I'd probably put myself in that bracket. It doesn't mean you can't still be creative and do what you love doing. I'm sure there are tons of closet jackasses out there that make brilliant games, but they just choose not to let their abrasive personality meet the public eye.

Can somebody summarize?
All I know is he made some dumb comments a few times. What's the big drama he's referring to?

I know it sounds silly, but making games is quite stressing.

I watched Indie Game: The Movie last night, and yeah, the development of Fez was pretty terrible for him. All that stress seems to have really messed him up.

Not to say that I like the guy's views or intend to give him any money, but he does deserve better than this with that in mind.

I think he ought to take a holiday and relax for a while.
Maybe if he were to return to the industry he'd find it more comfortable working as part of a larger developer, instead of being the go to guy for a specific game - he can be left to work in peace in the background. That's if he has any passion for games left at all.

Also yes, he should quit social media. He only feels such 'abuse' because he draws that kind of attention to himself so often.

Fish acts up a lot but Marcus Beer is consistently cruel and consistently unpleasant as a persona. I would prefer he leave gaming, but I know there are hundreds of people who appreciate that sort of post-Yahtzee gamer comedy. What Phil needs to quit is having a public Twitter account.

If this is true, like I said earlier today, he wanted all the benefits of fame and power (sales, attention, respect, the ability to talk shit to whomever about whatever he pleases), but wouldn't stand the heat of its drawbacks.

Have you had thousands of people spewing venom at you on Twitter?

Opinions of the guy aside, it's a fucking shame that it looks like we lost someone that brought creativity to this industry over something like this. People get in disagreements and say things they don't mean every day, it just doesn't always blow up on Twitter like Phil's confrontation did.

Have you seen what happened to the Platinum guys (not Kamiya alone) when Bayo2 was announced? On GAF alone?

Have you seen what happened to Sarkeesian when she announced her "Tropes" Kickstarter campaign?

Honestly, I don't think this guy was ever going to last. If it wasn't this controversy that would force him to quit, something else would just happen later down the line. His damn ego made him a lightning rod for criticism, which clearly he's incapable of dealing with.

And it's a shame. Fez is a great game. But if an artist is unable to deal with the attention they receive - they're just not cut out for success.

Bye. Good luck in whatever new medium you are going to. I am glad he relized how non welcome he was in the industry.

I guess he doing this to work on the game in silent with no people or whatever saying or asking anything to him.

Remember how joaquin phoenix trolled everyone? I think it will happne the same way.

If he loves games he'll calm down and carry on . I just hope he identifies the problems that make him so upset and angry before coming back.

It'd be a shame for him and the industry for this to truly be it.

What he needs is a PR guy to handle this sorta stuff. If I were him I'd leave Twitter, forget looking at news, blogs, videos about his projects or whatever, and just focus on his game. Let the PR guy he hires do all that sorta stuff. There are ways to completely shut out the noise.

LeBron James does a similar thing when it comes to the NBA playoffs each year. He's done it two years in a row where starting a month before the playoffs start he stops visiting Twitter and watching TV period. He reads books and focuses on the task at hand. It takes you out of the "connected world", so to speak. Fish needs to do something like this.

Good for him. I hope he finds joy in other endeavors or sits on a beach somewhere with umbrella drinks and a joint.

Goodbye, Phil Spector Fish. If only there was a way for people to be talented and creative without behaving like total assholes.
