Not to mention:

Kind of implies he's willing to add more than just Mega Man.
 
That article really is old, and too vague to really gleam any definite information. It means most likely that we shouldn't expect too many new crazy third party additions.

Also, presumably all the "hard work" with Sonic and Snake is done, whether they will be in is probably at Sakurai's own behest.

I didn't say he'll definitely add more. I'm just saying he considers it a possibility. I could've worded that better though. (but in all fairness I really doubt Mega Man will be the only third party addition lol)

But yes, I agree the article is too vague for any useful info other than we shouldn't expect crazy additions.
 
Cool man. What are the odds of them coming back? Based on all the information so far. Iiuzuka's comment is hard to interpret. I want Sonic back.
 
I think Sonic is pretty likely, he has a very sizeable fanbase for Nintendo systems which means more sales for Smash Bros. Not to mention he is a very important character in Nintendo's history.

Snake... no idea, I have a bad feeling he'll be a one time thing, I hope not because he was great in Brawl.
 
I'm not sure how committed Sakurai is to go through all the agreements with SEGA and Konami to get them back in. I wonder how he'd feel if he had to make even slight adjustments to them
 
As I've said probably a hundred times now... would cry no tears for Snake. Great characters for sure, but nobody has a good argument (in my eyes) whenever someone brings up how little relevance he has compared to the rest of the cast. It's obvious with Sonic, and he should definitely be back.
 
Looking at the developer direct at the moment, haven't played as mario or bowser in a while but have they increased the speed and range of both characters projectile attacks? it looks like the fireball doesn't go slow as shit and the fire breath seems to go further too.


Bowser not being in an animation where he can do nothing for 5 seconds after landing during an aerial attack is great too, it looks like they've changed a lot of his normals.
 
I hope he doesn't have to go to these companies again just to make slight adjustments to how strong or weak their attacks are.
 
I can easily see it being Pacman (just an example) and Megaman for this version, like it was Sonic and Snake for Brawl. Two third party characters per game is strict in a good way. Any more than three is a bit ridiculous I think.

That's why I'm worried about Sonic and Snake because we can't be so sure about their inclusion. I really want them to be announced so I can get them over with.

Speaking of which, what do you think of my roster? I set a maximum of 40 characters, since Sakurai said we shouldn't expect a billion more, took out Toon Link, Wolf, Lucas, ROB, Ike, Lucario, Sonic and Snake. Added 10 new, plus the already announced newcomers.

Pretty solid. Only 3 I can't see in there is Paper Mario (design is too vastly different to include, Toon Link was altered for Brawl to look SSBish. I can't see that being possible with Paper Mario), Krystal (not significant enough in the last few generations), Isaac (ditto, Golden Sun has fallen by the wayside and really doesn't have a fan base anymore).

I say take out those 3, put back in Sonic (especially with the upcoming Nintendo produced exclusive Sonic games making it very fitting) and you got a good solid 38 that I can see being very likely.

It's decent roster but it's unlikely that we will get only 40 characters and it lack surprise character for secret character. That's if they are still making characters unlockable.

I don't see ROB being taken out, possibly not Ike either. Wolf was also my favorite of the space animals and he didn't feel like a Fox clone. Sonic also likely to return. I was thinking Toon link would be out as well but with Wind Waker HD coming soon I'm not so sure. Most of your list seems to be im the realm of possibility but I'd rather have some more weird characters instead of another Mario and Star Fox rep.

Also look at other series with guest characters No iteration of Soul Calibur brought their guest character back and I seriously doubt we'll be seeing Ezio again.

Also bring in paper Mario we need another 2 dimensional character.

Sonic is only kind of likely because Sonic is exclusive to Nintendo for the next few games. Personally I'd like a new character instead because Sonic wasn't fun to play or fight against in Brawl.
 
The only thing that roster is missing is a second Kid Icarus representative. I would say how I don't think Krystal is the least bit relevant these days, but hey they added Wolf to the last game so I really don't know. If I had to have a third Star Fox rep, I'd take Krystal over Wolf anyways.

Also good god I want Shulk in just for the music.

Krystal sucks. Ridley is too big, hence why he was only a boss in Brawl, rather than a playable character. Paper Mario is unnecessary.

I do agree with the addition of Little Mac though.

How is Ridley too Big when Bowser is like 15 feet tall and he's been in 3 of these games and while Olimar is the size of a penny, but is just a lil shorter than Mario in the game?

Also, how is Paper Mario unnecessary?

Paper Mario would play way different than Mario.

He can do those things

Use Hammer
Become Paper Airplane
Paper Mode (for Dodge)
Tube Mode
 
For the first time ever in this series, I'm not hyped by this game :-/
I like the single player story mode, i like the cg videos and there gonna be less of that.
I dont trust Sakurai when he says its about getting the game this way or like that.
The truth is the game needs to come out asap.

Im sure fights will be great and online mode will deliver great battles.. But i dont know, something is off for me.

That's not bad idea. I haven't really play any game but gamecube one, and I stopped right after getting tube ability long time ago.

Actually, I have a feeling that we might see Little Mac sooner than we thought.

40 seems fairly realistic. Well, I'd say that any guess between 40-45 is realistic. 50 is a big maybe.

Anyhow, the roster is pretty good. But I think that Sonic's return is extremely likely.

Also, is there place where I can watch the daily images? The OP doesn't seem to get updated anymore and I only check like once every 1-2 weeks.
 
I think Ridley doesn't get in because of how nightmarish he looks. He'd be way too incongruous with the rest of the cast, same with Bayonneta and her overt sexuality.

I would expect 45ish because we had 39 characters in Brawl.

It may be likely but there is a chance that he mightn't make in the game, and I haven't update my OP because I'm working on new OP for OT2.

Isn't 39 considering all the alternates? I think it was 35 if you just count the slots, if you count the trasformations then mine are more as well, I have two forms of Mewtwo, the Trainer and Zelda.

Someone already gave me a link for the daily pics, so I'm fine with that. And yes, I know Sonic 'may' not return, but I do think it's pretty likely, especially given Nintendo's recent partnership for Sonic games.

I was talking about characters without counting transformations though. Brawl had 35 without that. Basically, I'm expecting 5-10 more characters in total (which includes new characters, some characters retiring and maybe even a few returning ones).

Sakurai actually counted alternates so I went with that way. By 45 characters, I meant 45 characters slots and one random slot. I can't predict what Sakurai would add for new transformation or alternate characters. I'm sorry for the confusion that I caused.

Pretty much. We will see when we get our hands on the game.

I hate to sound greedy but my ideal roster would be 49 characters slots and 1 random slot, but I seriously doubt that it would happens anyway. Yeah, I'm pessimist when it come to Smash 4.
 
Another few things:
  • Didn't add a Kid Icarus representative simply because I didn't play Uprising, so I don't quite have the means to know who'd fit better in smash.
  • Took out ROB just because of personal preferences, I needed another free slot and ROB has always striken me as the most out of place between the non-clone or non-quasi-clone characters.
  • Didn't play Awakening, so I wonder if Ike's moveset could potentially be adapted to Chrom.
  • Don't really like Krystal, but I'd get her over quasi-clone Wolf any day of the week.
  • I feel like Dixie is a given, though I wonder what kind of moves (aside from the obligatory haircopter) could she have to differentiate herself from the other Kongs.
