Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS Thread 2: Where Pilotwings is apparently Minecraft

Don't buy for a second that Rare was going downhill before the Microsoft buyout simply due to one game (SFAdv) being mediocre when it was made by one out of several different teams operating in the studio and had an abnormally troubled development period.

There was also that horrible Mickey racing game though.

I wouldn't assume that since, they change into that form for battle. And Smash in its entirety is a battle.

I would guess, they change into it from the get go, change back at the results screen.

Some threatening "mega" form it is if little Captain Olimar and his tiny Pikmin can clobber it without the help of any super duper special sauce. Keeping the new forms final smashes would add to their mystique and assumed power.

That was a quick cash-in Nintendo roped Rare into making for Disney Interactive (similarly how Rare doing a Goldeneye tie-in game was originally Nintendo's idea) and came between Perfect Dark and Banjo Tooie/Conker's Bad Fur Day. Again, not really indicative that Nintendo wanted to cut all ties with the studio ASAP.

Eh not at all. For example : Gannondorf an extra-dimensional wizard theif with tremendous powers is the worst character in the game. He is still however gannondorf.

It looks cool, and its what Pokemon is pushing right now,let them be.

Also I would give them a chance to give mewtwo a non sucky slow ass moveset, since this form is more speed focused. I understand the arguement, but those mega pokemon aren't unbeatable, and who else to beat them up than the fricking smash bros. That is a compliment.

In the Pokemon game they'll be usable during combat though, not just an attack, which means that they can be defeated by fairly non-threatening Pokemon.

I really hope they're implemented in Smash like a new power up mechanic, not just a skin with new intro or an invincible final smash.

You know, it's kind of funny. Some people in the Pokemon thread are worried about the forms not being instantly triggered in the beginning of the battle, but needing some dumb conditions, due to the wording in the press release. We still don't know enough about them to say for sure either way.

Mewtwo's moveset was awesome and wasn't the problem with his character in Melee. His floatyness and lack of killing power was his real problem. If the new form is used Sakurai will not have the chance to fix his mistake because his moveset will have to be altered to accommodate the new design.

Things and stuff. Stuff and things.

I get the impression that Sakurai is somebody that believes lack of killing power is part of a character's design, so I wouldn't count on him fixing that part of Mewtwo unless Namco is the one that does it.

When is Smash gonna get some good news. Geez.

I get the impression that it was an accident or a mistake.

I just don't want Newtwo on the game because I dislike the design. If he was cooler looking I'd feel differently.
I don't either, but if it's what allows that floaty-ass moveset with psychic abilities I loved dicking around with in Melee to get back into Smash, then so be it.

But all of the tail moves will have to be changed. I don't wanna see Megatwo whipping his or her head dangle back and forth like Willow Smith.

I posted something like this in another thread but no one really responded to it so I guess I want to talk about it here:

Anyone else think Pokemon Trainer should ditch the gen 1 starters and cover multiple generations with their starters instead? Mostly because I feel there's way too much Gen 1 overrepresentation at this point and no reps for a good majority of the series.

I'd prefer Pokemon Trainer represent Gen 2, 3, and 5 with their starters (and hell, throw in mega Blaziken for gen 3 rep). Mega Mewtwo and Mega Lucario rep gens 1, 4, and 6. And Pikachu and Jigglypuff are obvious inclusions, repping gen 1 (and fairy type Jigglypuff also reps 6). Put in an option to use the gen 1 starters too and bam, everyone's happy.

Although I want this to happen, it probably won't. :/

Cutting three characters would cause a huge backlash.

I edited to remedy that

Surely, if Sakurai went this route, he could put Squirtle, Ivysaur, and Charizard as an alt costume or something of the sort? It does seem like a lot of work but Pokemon is a massive franchise that, while already having a ton of character representation, is still under repped as far as series history goes in my opinion. Every gen should have some representation in character selection, though with a franchise that keeps growing larger and larger I can see why it's hard to do that. :/

Right, it'd be too much work and I doubt the 3DS would allow for that kind of thing anyway. He'll probably stick with the Gen 1 reps unfortunately.

Yea, I would like the Pokémon Trainer to have more variety in different gen Pokémon assuming that Sakurai doesn't want to put in a new Pokémon Trainer.

How would the 3DS not allow for that?

I think they are smart to mostly focus on Gen 1 Pokemon, those are the most iconic and memorable of the series.

I get that's probably why they do it, for popularity, I just wish the representation was a little more equal.

Gen 3 and 5 probably won't ever be properly represented as far as playable characters go.

Gen 1 Pokemon tend to look the best visually as well. The further in the series the worse they look for the most part.

We got good news when they confirmed WeeGee time.

Heh. Yup. I am glad the Luigi reveal happened. It finally put an end to the debate about whether or not he was on the chopping block. A lot of people were eating crowber on that day.

Zen Arcade aye. Are you a fan of Hüsker Dü?

I just got up from sleeping for like 3 hours, and I dream of Luigi in SSB4. That pressing Down-B would cause a moveset change, in which he now had the Poltergust equipped with all his normals and specials now changed.

Now I know it won't happen, but it was awesome. :3

Small and fast is the way I like it.

.

I'm in the camp that Pokemon Trainer's Pokemon should stay as is. They're too iconic. I won't mind if they just add more Pokemon to the roster.

I guess they could add another Pokemon Trainer but that would feel like overkill, and what would you name that character? :p

If they could get PT to split between two different teams of three then that would be great.

That I am my friend. I like pretty much anything Bob Mould does. Sugar and his solo work are great too.

With Mega Man in Smash I think it is obvious that the Mega Mega Man announcement from Game Freak will be happening any day now.

Can you point me out with poor texture seams? time stamp youtube would be nice.

A2MTMdv.jpg

Perhaps seams, by not be the right word, generally errors of that nature reference lines between textures. What I meant was in motion limbs/joint textures stretch and become horribly blurry. Look at Browsers arms and legs leading into his stomach, or his chest in movement for example. Just looks bad, sure such things will improve leading up to release though.

I think that's more to do with the actual limbs meshing with Bowser's stomach than anything regarding textures. You can see it a lot with stuff going through Link's cap or Samus's shoulder-pads as well.
If any other Smash is an indication, it won't be fixed.

Cool.

Zen Arcade and Everything Falls Apart are classic.

I don't know about you guys but the unique shade of colors for each of the character backgrounds is irking me. There are already six shades of green being represented and we are not even close to having all the characters unveiled. Weird design choice.

Well, Zelda probably would have Purple, and Peach would get Pink.

Diddy = Brown or Red
Sonic = Blue
Yoshi = Green
Jigglypuff = Pink
Marth = Light Blue
Ike = Dark Blue

In all honesty Candy Apple Grey is my favorite. I'm pretty sure I'm in the minority there though.

Zen Arcade is a more fitting username here than Candy Apple Grey.

I am generally not one of those Punk Rock fans that always prefers the earliest material, but with Hüsker Dü I fit the bill.

Yeah, that seems about right. If Nintendo had decided to buy Rare completely out I think Banjo & Kazooie along with Joanna Dark would've been shoe-ins for Brawl, with Gruntilda being highly likely for this new one.

While it (sort of) made sense for Nintendo to sell them when they did, they really could have benefited with more varied franchises like Killer Instinct and Perfect Dark filling the huge software void of the Wii U. Don't buy for a second that Rare was going downhill before the Microsoft buyout simply due to one game (SFAdv) being mediocre when it was made by one out of several different teams operating in the studio and had an abnormally troubled development period.

EDIT: Also forgot to comment on the Luigi reveal due to uni and work related stuff taking up my time; really cool to see unlockables getting revealed this early, though I'd also be down with veteran 'secret' characters being starter characters for SSB4 like others have suggested as well. Kind of a shame it seems like his Poltergust isn't there though, even if it'd be a purely cosmetic difference though.

One issue, Nintendo didnt sell Rare, they sold their minority share after MS bought the larger portion.
