Killer Instinct coming to Xbox One

Even considering the (seemingly) confirmed and incoming Thunder reveal, I think we'll see Eagle at some point during Round One.

Calling it now that he'll be a mild mannered accountant from Delaware with a plain wife, three kids and a Toyota Corolla. He is ashamed of Thunder's life choices and insistence on perpetuating racial stereotypes.

#BELIEVE

LOL, that's... novel. =)

Why does everyone want it to be Eagle so badly? We've never seen him and know hardly anything about him other than the fact that he was Thunder's brother. Dead brother, mind you.

One of those female characters will certainly be Orchid. The cheerleader talk likely wasn't about her, as Orchid is actually a secret goverment agent. Kim Wu though... Her persona and look has a cheerleader vibe to it already, though I think the other female fighter will be original.

Uhh I think its 100% Orchid based on what Mick told me yesterday. She's getting a new look and vibe and there's going to be a new Female character.

So she's gone from a secret government agent to a cheerleader? Doesn't really make sense in the light of things. They've remained true to all of the characters' previous profiles so far, so I don't see why such a big change would be necessary for her; especially considering her popularity. But, if this is the case, then it's the first thing about the game I really, truly disagree with. It doesn't mean Orchid still won't be a great character and all, but that is a huge shift from her previous incarnation if so.

No no, her win pose in the original had her bouncing around like Cheerleader, etc.
I'm pretty sure she's going to be more hardcore this time around.

Idk. It's hard to take that seriously when going from a secret agent to a cheerleader. This is Orchid's backstory:

"For many years Black Orchid has been amongst the codenamed elite of a professional spy organisation working for the greater good of society. Her past remains hidden, including some things of which even she is unaware: she won't find out for some time yet that Jago is actually her brother. Realising that clear evidence of Ultratech's crimes and dark ambition is proving impossible to come by, she eventually decides that the only way into the company is also the most dangerous - straight through the open front door. Once her superiors are persuaded of the necessity, she goes ahead and enters the tournament."

I just think it'd be a fun twist since everyone assumes it will be Thunder (which it is).

As dankir stated, her win pose was very cheerleader-like. That's why I believe he was giving a loose hint toward Orchid. He obviously can't just straight up announce Orchid. He has to be sneaky about it.

It makes far more sense for him to be talking about Orchid (hinting at her win pose), than for him to be indicating it's Kim Wu. She was an ancient South Korean warrior who was dead long before cheerleading even existed. Now she's suddenly become a cheerleader in present times?

I'm going with the Orchid win pose theory. lol

Sounds plausible.

I hadn't talent Kim Wu's backstory into consideration, but using that as a reason would also fall into why Orchid shouldn't be a cheerleader either. As previously mentioned, she wasn't a cheerleader beforehand. She was secret agent for a goverment organization.

If DH is taking the previous games into consideration (as they clearly have with the precious three characters) then it doesn't make sense for either to be a cheerleader really. This would be completely ignoring everything about their history aside from their movesets. Orchid does have a "cheerleading" pose and fight style perhaps, but that's far different than actually being a cheerleader. This almost completely changing the character. It would be better suited for a new, original character imo.

It's right there in her backstory. You just have to be able to read between the lines. She was clearly a cheerleader in her past and now those old memories are coming back to her. I for one am quite excited to see her new cheerleader outfit.

Why do you hate cheerleaders so much?

When I spoke to Mick yesterday, he's starting the music for a new female character and we should hear the first sound bits for a "familiar" female character soon. They're apparently taking a slightly different route with her this time a bit different from her cheerleader days :D

This to me says "She won't as campy now, we taking a different approach to the character". Which will probably be one that actually allows her to develop some form of character and personality, unlike the nearly blank-slate presentation of the past.

Who said she'd BECOME a cheerleader? If anything, he's saying they're taking her away from the silly aspects she had in the past.

I get the idea we'll be able to take Orchid as a secret agent much more seriously now, unlike her old chest-flashing, brainless-cheer-and-moan style from the old KI games.

Excuse you? lol

I'm excited to see what they do with Orchid...as long they don't make her TOO serious and maintain some of the campiness of the original games.

Orchid should always be fierce with a pair of hoop earrings.

They're going to give her the Sonya Blade treatment -- minus the strange berets.

If Orchid doesn't have a sidearm and/or ammo pack strapped to her thigh, I'd be very surprised.

I love OG KI but, for Orchid, the character design didn't exactly mesh with the backstory. An undercover secret agent, code-named Black Orchid, prancing around in a Neon Green Leotard? Come on, guys. I can handle werewolves, pirate skeletons, and reptile hybrids...but spies wearing leotards? Nope.

Put the nostalgia aside and give me a black-leather clad Orchid with a pony-tail, realistically sized 34B's and Shadow Cat...I'm all in.

It surprised me how... airhead Orchid seemed, when looking back at the old games after all this time. At least SOME of them sounded like they had something behind it, but her sounds (in KI2 mostly) just seemed so... odd.

I think it'll be quite cool to see a fleshed-out Orchid. Those conflicting feelings when one discovered that she had "killed" her brother thousands of times by flashing him... That's about all the weight her old backstory left me with, haha.

I'm not sure how I feel about this KI being too campy right now. This game is starting to become it's own thing to me, and I wonder how Orchid could be campy, in this surprisingly-serious world we've seen so far.
Still think she should have a "wardrobe malfunction" happen during her ultra, lol. Doesn't even have to actually show anything (would prefer it not, actually), but such a nod wouldn't be lost on fans

Actually, I wonder what her Instinct Mode will be, come to think of it...

Hoop earrings, though? Sure, awesome.

So... she should look just like a mod of Shadow from Eternal Champions! Got it! XD

Though to be fair.. in original KI's world, NOT dressing loud would probably have one marked for death instantly! Jago and Orchid probably were wearing SLIGHTLY modified street clothes...

If THIS can still happen in the modern day, Orchid can too.

I'd rather they fuck around with other irrelevant flops like Kim WHO?!@1 and Maya.

I still think it would be dumb if not all the characters came back. Don't really care about Eyedol or Gargos, but the others should all come back.

There was a rumor that was going around my local arcade back in the Killer Instinct days that said if you did some impossible thing (Perfects, Ultras, Finish Moves, Combo Breakers etc.) all the way to Spinal, KILLED Spinal on top the roof corner staircase (he had to be perfectly centered on it), Eagle would come up and you would fight him.

It would be a nice nod much like how Gouken (from SF4) himself was inspired by the Sheng Long mix-up (an April Fool's joke created by EGM), being added in response to fans demanding Sheng-Long.

I think you're missing the point. I'm not saying Orchid is now a cheerleader by profession. I'm saying that I believe he was hinting at Orchid by calling her a cheerleader based on her win pose in the original game. I'm sure she's still a secret agent in the new game with nothing at all having to do with cheerleading.

Maybe I'm grasping at straws here, but it reminded me of this:

Especially around the 1:30 mark.

Ohhhh okay. I understand now. I was taking the cheerleader thing literally. Lol I apologize for the misunderstanding.

It's Strider Hiryū - Double Helix is doing that game (finishing it...).

Oh.

Well...in that case...

Ew.

Can we please not do crossover characters? Maybe somewhere down the line years from now after KI has re-established itself (with a roster of old and new characters). But crossover characters just cheapens the experience, especially right off the bat.

I wouldn't be opposed to crossover characters as long they were from other Rare properties and made sense. Like Sabrewulf. He's based off of the character from the ZX Spectrum game of the same name.

Some characters that I think would fit well from Rare's universes would be one of the Battletoads and some of the Elemental Warriors from Kameo would fit right in--namely Pummelweed and Chilla.

What is a good way to do F2P for fighters?
I haven't played many F2P games, so maybe it is already out there.

When a new character is released they can be used in training mode?
Or do you just get your ask kicked enough times by someone else that bought them that you want to purchase them too?

So I'm looking at this Day One Xbox Live card. It says, "For a limited time, get a Day One 12-month Xbox Live Gold membership and play Killer Instinct: Round One, with the exclusive Shadow Jago character."

What I'm wondering is, does that include the full game unlock or is Round One just referencing the F2P version? I'm guessing they're not just throwing in the full game for free but figured I'd ask anyway as I can't seem to get a straight answer.

Hoping there's some clarification about this around Gamescom.

Fairly certain it's just a pre-order incentive to help push sales of Xbox LIVE Gold. And if I'm not mistaken, the Shadow Jago offer is only available for a limited time.

I'd definitely love to see a Battletoad. I think that makes sense.

According to everyone I've talked to at the Microsoft Store level, it's just the demo with an alternate skin for Jago.

Just to clarify, the game will be a free download with one character but additional characters will be premium DLC?

Am I correct in assuming that you get the "full version" with this offer?

If not, I don't see the point of this Day One sub - just a normal 12 month sub otherwise.
