Adam Sessler"Titan Fall one of the Most Enjoyable things I've played at a Convention"

What baffles me most about the naysayers against this game is that they act like they've seen this before or that its the same Ho hum game play we've had since COD4.
The game is more than just COD with Mechs. The mobility offered is unlike most FPS of its type. Yes theres Tribes, but that's really about it.
Titanfall might not be a revolution in FPS, but to say is just COD with Mechs is being reductionist and disingenuous.

I-it's just Call of Duty with mechs, you guys.

I feel like Titanfall is what Brink was supposed to be plus mechs.

I really wish I was hyped for this game :[ But it really just looks like COD with a new mech perk. And COD has left a bad taste in my mouth.

The one thing I really like about the game is...that animation when your titan grabs you and puts you in the cockpit.

this post is hilarious after the string of the last several.

But you really can't say it isn't similar to COD. The mobility doesn't seem like a huge deal to me, it's been done before, whatever. The mechs are what look great. I'm not talking shit about the game, I'm just saying it seems a lot like COD from what I've seen.

The game has more similarities to UT2004 than CoD. Respawn managed to automate the higher level movement mechanics enough for them to work on consoles. It's a remarkable feat. It would be day one on PC for me if I would still play MP games.

i'm not knocking your opinion, i just found the timing funny.

to be clear though, i think the cod comparisons are only a tiny portion of the game and shouldnt hold it back to non-fans. titanfall looks to have its own unique feel in gunplay, movement, and to use adam's words "asymmetrical gameplay" between mechs and foot solders. it shares some similarities with other established games but also looks to bring plenty of unique things too.

Kinda like saying Soul Calibur is like Tekken with weapons.

if they purged sniper rifles from COD or slow your mobility when carrying it a lot more then the matches would be more fun. Nowadays the matches consist of 50% snipers and since they have perfect accuracy (as long as the cursor is on the opponent) even when jumping it makes the game feel cheap because it's guaranteed instant death. COD is a great game without sniper rifles.

Eh, not really. I don't think the gameplay differences between Titanfall and COD are as big as Soul Calibur and Tekken. Those are very different games.

Soul Calibur is to Tekken as COD is to CS? or something. I DUNNO.

thats fine, now how do you write off all the other articles saying how great this game is?

The usual suspects. It is what it is, at this point time will tell, but to say its not being (and has been ) hyped beyond most games is putting your fingers in your ears and screaming lalalalala at the top of your lungs.

You can say this about damn near any game ever dude. You're shrugging off one of the games biggest selling points as if it doesn't have huge effects on the gameplay that differentiate it from its competitors.
Even if it has been done before its a breath of fresh air in a sea of CoDlikes.

You're right, you CAN say that about most games. I give up gaming.

jk I still have to play Titanfall.

Sessler loving the game kind of worries me since he seems to dislike all of my favorite games. :/

Titanfall looks great though. If I decide to hang on to my X1 preorder, it'll largely be because I want to play this game.

As an observer who is not that much into MP FPS games I do expect Destiny to walk all over this.
We haven't seen enough of either game to tell. Destiny looks nice, but what's gonna make that game special hasn't been revealed yet. Right now the only thing we've seen is a very nice looking Borderlands clone with dynamic coop and enemy spawns.

Bungie does seem to be pushing "This is the next Halo" pretty hard though.

I'm going to go against everything I believe in and buy this game for the sole purpose of financially supporting its developers because they did a thing I like. Don't really care if the game's good or not I just feel like I'm dutybound to reward them.

The one game that has me seriously considering a X1 over the PS4. Sony has the better first-party studios by a country mile but right now the X1 has the more appealing exclusives (Titanfall, Sunset Overdrive, Below, Quantum Break, KI, and even Ryse). I plan on jumping in early next year and the release date of TitanFall is going to have a huge effect on who I choose to go with first. I'm leaning towards PS4 because of price, hardware, developers, and gaming series..... but dammit Titanfall just looks like a really special experience.

- Setpiece moments and campaign storytelling in Competitive MP
- AI enemy combatants in competitive MP
- Jetpack traversal system
- Giant pilotable robots complete with their own loadouts
- Epilogue sequence that gives a chance at a personal win state even when your team has lost the match
- No killstreaks

Try again Respawn, this shit is just COD with mechs.

Exactly. It maybe be using old ideas but it's doing it a way that makes it feels fresh and exciting. It's all about making it work in the gameplay.

Really don't get the hype for this. I suppose most of it is self created by the industry.

The mechs are an interesting concept to add into an infantry TDM I guess. Wall jumping and some refined bunny hopping have been round for ages though, perhaps not to this extreme or scale but still.....

No doubt it will sell, I'm probably just out of touch these days.

I think GAF remains a forum that is disproportionately focused on graphically impressive, single player, story driven games. Not everyone, mind you (for example, not me), but a larger portion than is present in the gaming populace generally.

The gradual, relentless encroachment of casual gaming (and associated antiquated graphics), alternative input methods (not just Wii and Kinect, but iPhone/Android also), and the focus on social gaming and multiplayer is simply foreign and unappealing to a lot of members on this forum.

That is neither criticism nor praise; it is simply an observation. Everyone is welcome to their own gaming tastes.

sessler has turned into a Microsoft fanboy, I have no respect for him anymore

What do you mean turned into? He's been one for the longest time. It's been really easy to tell especially this year. That doesn't mean much here though. You don't have to be a fan of Microsoft to legitimately enjoy Titanfall.

I'm interested in TF, it looks cool. But after the Bioshock Infinite thing I've tuned out Sessler. He's like Cannata: They see a new shiny and they just go batshit crazy with the hyperbole and platitudes until the next shiny comes along.

All the hype for it seems generate by EA & Microsoft, who clearly have a vested interest in it to succeed.
What about those people who played it at gamescom and seemed to love it?

It does feel like you write off the hype as generated just because you don't happen to be hyped.

Destiny has to be the next Halo otherwise they're royally fucked.

All the more reason why their 10 year plan is so baffling to me. The way Halo emerged seemed kind of natural and a mix of the right place/right time. Destiny seems like it's trying to do the same thing for the MMOFPS, but they're basically applying the same expectation and hype of Halo to it.

I know Titanfall's push seems John Cena-esque, but it seems to be mostly coming from people getting their hands on it and coming away super impressed. That's the key thing here. They didn't give people a simple hands on, instead they've been letting people play it because they're confident in it. It's kinda crazy to me since the game seems to be still a ways from launch.

People buying a PS4 will hate on this game all day. Its cool to hate on anything that makes Xbox look like a good console around here. With that said Adam Sessler is thee most credible man in the video game industry. He has played and reviewed more games then I could possibly imagine. If he say it is the most enjoyable game he has played at a convention then case closed. Xbox One has one of the best games coming to console.

Have they announced the player count yet? How many "real" players, and how many AI per game?

8 + AI(x) vs 8 + AI(x) where x is unknown

I imagine the number of AI will be in the double digits for each side. You often see entire cargo boxes of them just fall in the map filled with like 5 or 6 of them.

Who knows if AI ships can attack you from above too.
