Real Madrid have broken the world transfer record to sign Tottenham forward Gareth Bale.
The Wales star has agreed a £300,000 per week, six-year deal after sealing an £85.3m (100m euros) move which eclipses the £80m Real paid Manchester United for Cristiano Ronaldo in 2009.

He's not worth that much. He's a good player, a great player even, but he's not worth that much.

Then again, it's Real Madrid. Overpaying for players is their gimmick.

Utterly disgusting and completely irresponsible. Whoever authorised this should be fired immediately.

They overpaid by 65-70 million

Lucky Spurs, they sold a player to a side that was very desperate to add a "name" even though they do not need it.

Feel bad for Bale somewhat, he wont be able to perform to Madrid level and his price tag, and will flop harder than Kaka

No player in the world is worth £85 million, but thanks Madrid for over paying and thanks for the memories Gareth.

oh and goodluck in spain.

Its funny that just a few years ago he was the guy who had never won a match at spurs.

Now ronaldo can come back to united for 101mil so he can be happy again.

Real have broken the world transfer record 5 times in a row now. Excellent player and all but he's not even remotely close to the level Figo, Zidane, Kaka and especially Ronaldo were when they were bought.

It will be interesting to look back on this transfer window in a few years, if things break right it could be the transformation of Tottenham from also ran to contender.

The world transfer record smashed for Gareth fucking Bale of all people. smh

Well the players who would be more valuable aren't up for sale, or are already at the clubs that have ridiculous stacks of money to throw around

Also bearing in mind how the last 2 transfer windows have gone Spurs might want to start looking for new young Goalkeeper.

What is stupid is that Bale is still fucking no one. He has skills but he never won anything. When CR gone to Real at least he won CL with Manchester.
Kaka was also accomplished player before CR.

But who cares.. he will be just most expensive bench warmer.

I hope Perez has learned a lesson on how Levy does business...

Perez doesn't give a shit. Real tripled its income in galactic era even with those crazy 80mln transfers. What is most interesting that RM didn't win anything important in that era.

Great hits.

To a lesser extent:

Not even funny:

It's just in their DNA.

Although tbh I believe Bale is not a player of the same pedigree as those, by far. It was just a stubbornness of Florentino. Money would be much better spent on Falcao. smh.

As an Aston Villa fan this does make somewhat excited for the summer when Madrid offer a stupid amount for Benteke.

It is incredible how well Tottenham did here, i cannot remember the last time a club made this much bank off so little

When Juventus sold Zidane for 40 something million they sold the best player in the world, World Cup Winner, who also won the CL for Madrid, that was a worthwhile record breaking transfer.

Bale? In 2 years the only job he will have at Madrid is sweeping the floor at Bernabeau

Mind you i do not hate the guy, hell i feel sorry for him, he carries the same price tag as Ronaldo and Ronaldo's hair gel has more talent in it than Gareth Bale has in his entirety

Hah. I met Bale a year ago in NYC when EA was promoting FIFA 13. Took pictures with him and everything. The whole Spurs team were there, they were pretty cool dudes.

Paid for by the European Union through the back door.

With the Spanish economy in trouble and lots of people unemployed, they the club which has a social function pays that kind of money? lol

Funny how Spurs were close to offloading him for something like £4m when he wasn't working out. I hope he does well. Not worth that much either way, but Real gonna Real.
