Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS Thread 2: Where Pilotwings is apparently Minecraft

its a weird to say, since the smash gameplay is such a solid good thing, but the majority of the content of something like smahs is the fanservice, I think ultimately thats where sony dropped the ball, they just said "lets make a fighter like smash using OUR characters@" and didnt look any further than that, 2ndly they only tried or atleast seem to say that their priority was on fighting game fans and fans of playstation games came 2nd to everything else

I got stuck on the bottom page D:

I approve of the Super Paper Mario love-in this thread has suddenly turned into. Game does not get enough love, especially on this forum. :)

Nah, Chapter 6 was the best. I loved the story there, and the 100 man tournament has some hilarious dialogue.

Holy shit. :lol

Super Paper Mario has some of the best dialogue in games. The entire series really. Damn shame SS was a downgrade in the amount of speech. :(

I couldn't stand Super Paper Mario. Probably the last game I bought that I actually hated. I thought it was a platformer. I don't like RPGs.

It's a game I loved, but I could never, ever play it again...

But yeah, all those Sammer Guy's had their own unique name referencing a Mario character (one was Squatting Birdo), and pretty cute dialogue.

So, any guesses for tomorrow's screen-shot? I'm gonna get a bit pattern-obsessed and say, since we saw DK in the pic today, we'll see a shot of that 3DS Waterwheel level that looks like it's from Donkey Kong Returns 3D.

I just noticed that the balloons are on the helmet, like in the original sprite...

... rather than on the back, like the previous Smash Bros. trophies.

I find it a little awkward that they gave the balloons to Villager though. I've never played Animal Crossing, but there's no real relation, is there? I guess they might have wanted to include something Balloon Fight related but couldn't just include Balloon Fighter.

This better be Villager's alt though.

I'm guessing they deemed the Balloon Fighter reference appropriate due to the fact that balloons are a recurring thing in Animal Crossing, and you can actually play Balloon Fight for NES in the GCN games. Plus, as you can see, he looks quite like Balloon Fighter with the hat and all! His proportions are just right. They couldn't make Balloon Fighter into a whole character, so he became part of another one!

I'm just kinda sad that this most likely means no Tingle... :(

A few relationships:

1. balloons are a recurring item in AC.

2. I think in the gamecube AC you could actually get balloon fighter in-game to play.

There might be more connections than just those two though.

Yep, I googled and saw that, and that's why I wondered if there's any more of a relation than this. :-P I'm guessing Tyeforce's and Neoriceisgood's theory might be right. You get items via balloons and stuff?
Crap, I'm so afraid to play Animal Crossing.

It's still a sweet reference though. Personally, I wasn't rooting for Tingle at all, though I was hoping for Balloon Fighter to be an Assist Trophy. But I have no objection with a playable reference to the character either. In fact, it may be even better.

There's no bowling balls or boxing gloves in AC either AFAIK. Sometimes I wonder if there's gonna be a mii mask option for Villager since all 3 are more strongly connected to miis than AC.

The fact the balloons are attached to the helmet rather than a backpack makes it a clear reference to the balloon presents in the game. Minus the colour, Villager is being carried like the silver catapult.

Villager is pretty nice as Balloon Fighter. Great to see they use him for this franchise. Also, I really should play Super Paper Mario sometime....
