Dave Chapelle Calls Previous Show Audience, "Evil, Young, White Alcoholics"

If I recall correctly, that's pretty much the issue that led him to stopping S3- he got very uncomfortable with people finding it funny who didn't get the joke.

I encountered some of these people back when the show was still on. He definitely had reason to be concerned.

I can see his Dave's relationship with his fanbase works like this, some of them are dumb white guys that actually think all of the characters and situations described are played straight and are actually a mock towards black people. He always has to wonder if fans are laughing with him or at him.

Love Chappelle, and I've heard him make that argument. While I tend to have low confidence in the intelligence of the average person I think he's underestimating his audience.

There may have been some anti-Semitic people that loved Borat as well, but they would be the exception, not the norm. I think that was the case with the Chapelle show as well.

Or allow some people from the audience to volunteer to escort them into the alley and wail on them a little bit for a few minutes. Because fuck you if you're gonna waste MY money.
I kinda actually had to do something like this myself when I went to see the Wayans bros perform at a club. Some dude was bitching and causing ruckus b/c they made fun of his favorite sports team. They didn't stop their show; security just took him outside...and I kinda helped ;)

Dave should blame the club for having shit to nonexistent security.

I hope this makes him mad enough to get back into TV, just seeing how the country is today, while he's out touring.

the power of the people's elbow.

And yeah I think that's why he stayed to collect his pay. He knows it's the club's responsibility. Why wouldn't they throw them out? It's not like they'll never come back. And they have already paid, and had enough to drink.

I think you're underestimating stupidity. He turned down a 50 million dollar pay day. I don't think he would of done that if the issue was just trivial.

You can say that about any comedian, especially if they're a minority. And if they're laughing at him, it wouldn't just be white people.

But I'd like to think Dave has faith most adults are actually smart and act their age, and wouldn't be thinking of his material in that way.

Hecklers are some of the lowest scum on earth.

They did that shit here in knoxville and he gave us all the middle finger at the end of the show. I appreciate him finishing the show and don't blame him for flipping us off.
What drives those hecklers anyway? Do they really pay for a ticket just to annoy some comedian?

That has been my experience seeing live comedy. Hell I'm one of them.

Only rich young white folks have the time, money and inclination to go to a popular show.

I guess the Appollo offers free admission.

Chappelle is known for showing weakness because years of weed has addled his brain, and certain types of people jump on that
That still means that they're paying for the ticket and spend their evening there. That seems like quite a lot of effort just to get on some dudes nerves.

That's been my experience. Some Chappelle Show fans are cool, and others like it because it confirms their stereotypes about blacks.

Everyone's being so dismissive of this post, but it's true.

No, it's not. The show had an audience much wider than that. You're confusing Dave Chappelle with Dane Cook.

I think there's a difference between having thin/thick skin and being heckled so much that you can't even do your job.

Come on. That was from the Pittsburgh show and it was all in good fun and hilarious.

Edit: I see from the link it was in Chicago. I read the post and some of that stuff he said in Pittsburgh.

The last bit at the end was hilarious.

"As a black man I said 'Seinfeld you just lost a ni**a' as a comedian I said 'whoooh, Kramer had a tough set!"

"You don't go to a tiger show to see if a guy is safe, you go to see if he gets bit."

Seems like he took a bad night and flipped it into a good bit.

I know a lot of people from Connecticut. They're certainly white and alcoholics.

Spit the truth Dave.

When keeping it wrong goes so real....

I would probably have more to be offended about if I knew where Hartford, CT was.. or even where Connecticut was.

Still pretty bad.

Chappelle is boss tho....

Hecklers being scum? What shock

Dave being overly emotional? What a surprise. Not sure why everyone is defending Dave though...comedians get heat from hecklers. Part of the industry.

It's an interesting stigma we have in this country, where being a sensitive person is considered a negative thing, especially if you're a guy.
