Welp, I'm here. Might as well use this post for an idea dump.
MARIO SERIES NEWCOMER + Brief moveset overview:
Toad/Kinopio
First Appearance: Super Mario Brothers (1985) Latest Apperance: Mario Kart 8 (2014)
General Stat rundown: True to his most famous appearance, Toad is Fast and of medium-high strength. He's easy to knock away though, due to being so lightweight. He's also horrid when it comes to recovery and areal movement. So if you can stay on the field, the Mushroom Retainer may be your guy! But if you can't, well... you're boned.
Moveset: During most of Mario's adventures, Toad has steadily helped out through item giving. So of course, the person that can most effectively use them for combat is the item clerk!
A: Punch. ComboA: Series of punches followed by a head-butt. DashA: Blue Shell/Penguin suit
Side Smash: Bee suit sting. Down Smash: Raccoon tail spin. Up Smash: Spring suit hit.
Nair: Air-summersault Bair: Frog Suit Kick Uair: Bunny ear poke. Fair: Hammer suit Hammer Whack. Meteor: Goomba's shoe (works like link's sword pogo.)
Special: Superball (Bounces off walls, somewhat amiable.) Side Special: Boulder Suit Roll (Works like Yoshi's side B.) Up Special: Propeller hat boost. Down Special: Tanooki statue.
Final Smash: Rides on the fairy from Wario's woods (Wanda) and drops bombs all over the field. Can be hit and prematurely stopped.
Colors: Red, Blue, Yellow, Pink (Toadette), Brown (Toadsworth)

Lol. Well, technically he "sneaks by" the dumber enemies. So I guess we can assume other Nintendo chars are smarter than your average goomba. Though I don't particularly care about Nabbit, I just think he's more interesting than Toad, who I'm rather apathetic towards. Not saying he'd be an awful choice though.

Personally I'm rooting for Toad or Bowser Jr. as the new Mario rep. Although I'm not sure we'll get one... but it would be odd if Pokemon had more reps than Mario, and Pokemon is practically guaranteed to have at least five (Pikachu, Jiggs, Mewtwo, PT, Lucario).

No, I don't really want Nabbit, just saying he's above Toad in my books xD That's just my opinion, Toad has always been bland to me. Though Bowser Jr.'s alright (still would take Daisy, Kamek and/or Waluigi over Jr. though =D).

Mario had 6 Mario characters in Brawl, 7 if you count Donkey Kong and if you count him you might as well count Diddy, so 8. I doubt Pokemon will have more than Mario.

one thing to take into consideration is that yoshi, wario, and the donkey kong characters are all considered from separate series, since they all actually do have separate series from the main mario, wario and DK even have multiple subseries within their series. If you ask sakurai this he would undoubtedly tell you the same thing
Just to stir things up a little, cuz I'm bored...but...
The reason I'm not too hyped about Jr. is because I'm assuming Bowser Jr. would get the...well...Jr. treatment.

Basically, I think he'll pretty much be Bowser but with different weight and damage attributes, as well as hit/hutbox differences à la Toon Link.

Yeah, this would be a pretty unfortunate worst case scenario. The best case scenario would be really cool, though - a strong, but fairly quick and light, character that could make use of fire abilities, a magical paintbrush, a magic wand, the Koopa Clown Car, perhaps even summoning minions or...
There are a lot of possibilities, is the point! Really it's kind of like Dark Samus - he could be a clone, which would be a bummer, but if he isn't he would be so cool!
