Contradicting the guy who actually is in charge of the direction DC Comics are going? Holy fuck, DC, HOW DO YOU EVEN FUNCTION AS A COMPANY

Didio is just out of it, why is the man so hell-bent on destroying every hero marriage? What's wrong with a few less major characters actually being in a dedicated relationship? I've gotten so fed up with all the relationship and marriage annulment crap in comics, the Black Widow/Bucky mind control thing in Winter Soldier was a slap in the face.

I think they may be trying to keep all their characters young and "hip" with this New 52 thing. Serious relationships just tie people down, man.

I think it's a stupid way to run a business, especially when most of their readers are adults.

Yeah, that makes sense and it's stupid as hell. Despite what DC think there are a lot of married people who are "cool and hip" despite having family commitments, it's possible to have a couple without all the usual drama.

Right. And I think a Batwoman marriage would have added a lot of depth to the character. Even though it's mainly an action book, I really enjoy it when action books have slice-of-life segments. It makes the books feel more grounded.

Yep, I would liked to have seen it. It bothers me now knowing it wont happen.

Same here. In fact, after #26, I'm dropping the book from my pull-list completely. Now that they aren't going through with the plot line that they've been building for how many issues?

It's not like the mainstream even knows there's a difference between Batwoman and Batgirl anyway. Come on, DC. It can be our secret.

So I watched Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox today. Was quite good, but the level of violence was pretty shocking. Was Flashpoint, the comic, anywhere close to as violent as this? I'm inclined to guess yes as Johns loves a bit of gruesome violence.

I wish I'd gotten in on that Comixology sale on the series awhile back.

I was split between posting this here, and starting a new topic titled "Dan DiDio is a fucking idiot".

Today, Dan DiDio told a packed hall at Baltimore Comic Con that heroes shouldn’t get married. And he explained how heroes have to sacrifice their personal lives. And that is why Kathy Kane wasn’t allowed to marry Maggie Sawyer in Batwoman.

But of course, Aquaman is married to Mera.

Isn’t he?

[Continued here]

DC is so fucking out of touch, it's ridiculous.

of course it's not gonna fucking work if you don't even give it a chance to fucking work god fucking damnit dan how can you be so fucking obtuse

Didio seems to be the root of all DC's PR troubles. Shame those Bat books keep selling. Otherwise someone might have to consider doing something about him. Having someone this out of touch in charge of your business and speaking for your company is just...bad.

DC is so fucking out of touch, it's ridiculous.

Just read nearly an hours worth of links, tweets, articles etc all relating to DCs recent events. I'm going to make sure that I catch up with my Batwoman issues(only had up #10 then ran out of money) to support the creators, then stop at #26(including).

Also, related/unreleated. Completed Batman: Arkham City today. Pretty damn good.

I know everyone hates Didio including me but the fact is The New 52 launch has made DC more profitable than it has in years and there were fucking lines to buy the Villians Month tie-ins this past week. So maybe we are out of touch with the masses?

Most people probably don't care. They just know they like Batman and nothing else figures into their decisions. Although comics are so niche nowadays that I would have hoped lots of fans would be dedicated enough to keep up with current happenings and be conscious of what they're supporting.

Ok, first Comic Con. Was a blast...they take credit cards at booths with the help of smart phones. Thats was bad for me but oh well. Anyways.....

First off, who are my current Thor fans? Im not really so I got this for one of you. First Thor fan to link me to one of their post praising this book wins a signed copy of Thor God of Thunder #1 by writer Jason Aaron.

I think I figured out what really pissed James Robinson off. I remember awhile ago he was teasing that the New 52 version of Infinity Inc. would be Earth 2's version of the Legion of Super-Heroes but when Didio and Harras moved the Levitz Legion to Earth 2 (as a result of deciding to make Justice League 3000 the legion equivalent on Earth 1) it totally derailed that plan in addition to other things like not letting him do what he wanted with E2 Batman.

Really, it comes down to who these faux pas are actually affecting. There are, as an example, a large portion of ComicGAF who get next to no DC titles who will decry everything that is done; But they weren't going to invest themselves in the universe anyways so it really doesn't matter.

There is a ton of internet outrage over stuff like editorial interference / creator changes, but a majority of those people expressing said outrage, don't even get the title. There are simply many more internet champions who will take up any seeming slight to something they are passionate about (equality for marriage, etc) who are much more interested in the sensationalism that will bring attention rather than the actual issue at hand.

People who buy comics aren't going to be swayed by such things. If you are deep enough into a companies catalog to by anything besides their top tier, premier titles, you're going to end up being much harder to sway into "action" (re: cancel a book) outside of it just sucking, which is going to be the biggest cause of readership loss.

...yeah, nobody reads comics except the people who read comics. And, of course, since all these decisions have been coming to light DC has seen an increase in sales, right?

Oh. They've actually been declining rapidly?

Hm. What could the cause be. I wonder. Hm.

That harley print is awesome.

I haven't read Thor yet so I can't try for that.

Hope you had a fun time though. Eventually I will get out to a big con.

Yup. Now compare those to last year. The decline has been stready with small spikes. Far cry from your "well, the people who are bitching are buying anyway" nonsense. People are bitching and then they're not buying. I mean, what, did you think nobody would fact check you? lol. No.

http://comicsbeat.com/dc-comics-month-to-month-sales-july-2013-the-ring-bling/

"Despite the tremendously successful crossovers, average DC Universe numbers are back at an estimated 33,485 units, their lowest point since March 2012. That’s still a very good number by pre-”New 52″ 2011 standards, mind you. But in 2010, it would have charted at No. 7, as far as top-selling months are concerned. Once you get below the 60K mark, the sales of most DC Universe titles keep declining briskly, including the 12 “New 52″ series that are already cancelled. And there are already eight other, still ongoing ones that sold fewer than 20,000 units in January."

KoruptData, I see you got some signed Mercy Sparx books. Signed by Blaylock, I guess? Which issues/collections did you get? I can't tell from the covers.

Bryan Glass gets 'Furious' at Dark Horse (CBR)

Sounds like an interesting premise: a young woman develops superpowers and decides to become a superhero. The difference? She was an unlikeable b*tch that everybody hated before she got powers, and she's using the hero identity to redeem herself without letting everybody know it's the b*tch they all hate.

this looks good, probably gonna try it out

Bedard is such a plain writer, wonder what happened to Michael Ian Nelson. Brah is an actual storyteller, so he is not one to air his dirty laundry or make a big deal out nothing like Haden Black. Wolfman is a relic of the 70's and 80's. great stories though. Lobdell had it for about five to seven issues for each New 52 book he did but hasnt had it since. Its a disgrace that they write out another interesting new character. Solstice is on the clock.

Michael Alan Nelson still does Supergirl, no?

George Perez's She Devils from Boom

I'm interested. Still gotta check out Paul Jenkins' Boom stuff.

Sounds like a good time. One thing though- why did he sign the blank in the center

Ok, Jason Aaron is there. I dont have anything for him to sign. I go buy a Thor Book just to get it signed. I buy the cheapest #1 that I could find. Blank varient edition was the cheapest. Im not paying for a commision so the winner of this book gets a big signature on the cover. I told him too.

Vol 1 TPB and Issue 1 and 2 from Vol 2 that are not even out in stores yet. Con exclusive covers.

Very cool. I read vol. 2 #1 and enjoyed it quite a bit, but it would certainly have been ideal to get my hands on volume 1 first. Regardless, I'm looking forward to the vol 2 #2 issue that will be in shops in October (I believe). I recommend you share the books with your wife. I think Mercy Sparx can appear pretty equally to either gender.

Oh, she is the one that got them. She will be sharing with me.

Do want, at that signed copy of thor.

The godkiller saga has been a moment of relief in many terrible recent Thor chapters.

I know the pain. My last con set me back something like $1000+. I had saved up for it, but I came across so many things that I NEEDED MORE THAN ANYTHING ELSE.

Jesus, so aggressive. He did fact-check. To be fair, you were the one throwing around decline without any cited sources in your shit, which is what tends to happen in a lot of these such-and-such was a bomb/didn't sell/poor numbers posts you see sometimes.

You look at all of DC's editorial screw-ups, and it's easy to see why creators are flocking to Image in droves.

That Harley stuff is pretty cool.

Man this Didio stuff bums me out. It always seems like everything out of his mouth is a middle finger to me. I know he trolls and all and that's why I try to avoid comic sites but damn..

Just like the 90s!

Hell, Marvel brought back Chromium covers with Age of Ultron and DC did 3D lenticular covers this week.

The 90s are back, baby! Call Rob Liefeld!

I like Thor a lot....yet it's been a long time since i talked about an issue, probably the first one. It's a great book though, especially king thor. I'm five or so issues behind everyone too. Fedex ended up calling me back saying they have no update and didn't get in contact with the driver, so ask dcbs to file a claim XO. Right now someone is reading my comics.

so im reading Darkseid #1....was this always his origin?

He's literally Kratos now

No it wasn't, Kirby's original origin for him was pretty different. He was of royal blood on Apokolips and was either next in line or second in line (sorry it's been a year or so since I last read the Fourth World saga) to the throne. Both he and his brother were trying to obtain and master the Omega Effect and Darkseid then killed his brother to take the power for himself. I dunno how it works now, but originally Steppenwolf was his uncle. Also, the war between the old and New Gods was over long before any of this happened.

Basically the only thing Pak kept was Darkseid's name originally being Uxas and Highfather's being Izaya.

The new origin is completely terrible.
