PS VITA TV announced (~$100, Vita set top box - as in it has no screen - for TVs)

I'm also sick of being the leak guy... and i'm also disgusted with myself that I enjoy being that person. I'm getting attention for shit I didn't do... I just have good friends in good places. That said, verendus sucks - he doesn't give anything specific and has been coasting off of what legit folk like myself have been posting. CBoaT is the greatest internet personality of alltime but he hasn't had a banner year and he clearly isn't a sony insider because it was logistically impossible for the PS4 to come out in October... so he was just repeating industry rumors. Not that I've never been wrong, because I have, and CBoaT is still the king. But I hate that i even care about this shit and compare myself.

Also... Sony just killed it, again, with a ton of games without having to reveal any of their huge first party games. Anyone doubting this lineup is high. And in a final move of disgusting self promotion, if you haven't heard of NUad you should read this. Microsoft wants you to pay $100 so they can advertise to you... it's well sourced. I couldn't believe how much of this info was out there (though it's all from pre-NSA leaks... MS has STFU about data collecting since then). So check that out if you want to.

I seem to remember that game is mostly gyro heavy than touch screen although there's a couple easter egg you can do with touch screen.

oh, gravity slide use touch screen for quick turn I think. once DS4 control is added there shouldn't be problem playing Gravity Daze I think.

Man, I REALLY hope they will patch in some feature that will allow our PS Vitas and PS Vita TVs to talk to eachother. I'd rather not have to set up my homescreen again on my PS Vita TV.
 
How can a DS3 plays vita games with touch screen and touch pad support? :/
 
Maybe I'm being dense but I don't get the appeal of this.

Since this device uses your TV as a screen... why would I want to play Vita games on it?
My big TV is for home consoles, and I can play most of Vita's libary in other devices I own already.

I mean, you are making a home console out of a handheld, why not just buy a home console like a PS3, which is dirt cheap now, with a vastly superior library?
 
This is going to be huge for the VITA, friken huge and i going to go all Patcher here and say its going to save it. Too bad Nintendo can't do something similar with the Wii U (meaning a megaton).

invest in some decent speakers and a good AV receiver...your devices, and most importantly your ears will thank you ;)
 
So Vita TV is basically a set top box with access to 90% of Vita games played on TV for a low entry value of $100 without the need to actually own the Vita console, am I right?

Is this able to use a PS4 controller? because pretty much no Vita game would be playable otherwise, but all the promo shots show it with a PS3 controller.

With a PS4 controller you could just click the touchpad to alternate between front/back and dual.

Because at the end of the day this is still for vita games not ps3 not ps4. Vita
 
Another question... in the trailer, it shows the family watching movies via the device, then the kid's friends come over, he turns on his PS4, and heads into another room to play games.... while the family continues to watch their movie.

So the device is in one room, streaming a movie in one room and streaming a game in another? What's the range on this little mofo?

Yes, but PS VITA TV releases before PS4 in Japan, hence the DS3.

I expect support for touch-screen Vita games will launch when the PS4 (and DS4 support) does.
 
as a owner of a vita I'm not interested in the device itself but I hope this will result in more people buying vita games which will result in the development of more vita games.

Remote play supports direct connection to your console, or through any internet connection. A vita or Vita TV will technically work anywhere using remote play, so long as you have an internet connection. Of course, the problem with an internet connection is lag.
 
this being Japan only in November means I bet they're still working on the PS4 remote play part, and this gives them until February to get an update done.

So if you're thinking of importing, consider that the remote play PS4 part might not be supported in the west until after the Japanese PS4 launch.
 
Also the VitaTV comes with 3 months of plus.

So that deal crosses over to America and the right games get patched, that's Uncharted/Wipeout/Gravity Daze plus whatever's free that month. For $100!

But it only puts out video at 720p/1080i. ;_;

Yeah, it does. Pretty much all launch games on the Vita use the touch/rear touch in some gimmicky yet integral way. Certainly the biggest exclusives need to be patched to be playable anyway.

This sounds great, the price point is right, it can fit a lot of use cases but they really have to market it right precisely because it can do so many things.

Yeah, but if this is using Gaikai as the backbone of its infrastructure... lag is not an issue, if my previous experience with Gaikai is indicative of internet performance.
 
This will be nice to have since I hate playing games on a handheld. Would much rather do so with a control pad. I'd still keep my Vita around, but I'd play the majority of games on this

Hopefully this leads to the death of anything touch related as a necessary function on Vita!

lol i hear ya...ive got 8 inputs on my receiver...5 currently occupied (PS3, bluray player, 360, cable box, Wii)


shit...my PS4 and Xbone will damn near max me out again...at least i have the two "spares" on the TV itself...
