PS VITA TV announced (~$100, Vita set top box - as in it has no screen - for TVs)

Just saw this and I am impress.

It's something so obvious and for some reason it takes so long for console maker to jump on it.

Whatever happened with the mystery slot?

I was hoping HDMI out or something.

That's assuming every vita game in the future will work with PS Vita tv console.

In Japan ( where Vita matters most ), a lot of games barely use the touch functionality at all. The most they are used are for simple menu stuff, etc.

I would say that only 1 in 15-20 Vita games actually use touchpad/screen deep enough that it cannot be done on VitaTV. And most of them are 1st-party titles where Sony stands to benefit the most to patch those titles to make them playable on VitaTV.

So unless you want to play games on the go you no longer need to buy a Vita right?

Games that require touch are not fully supported at launch but if you don't want to use a portable but want to enjoy the games then this device presents great value. 100 dollars is king of genius if you think about it. They took out the screen and left the essential PSV parts in there while bring able to do wireless streaming from your PS4. This can be a very powerful Roku like device with support for the PSN PS1/PSP/PSV catalog.

If they tell me how to play Tearaway on it they've got a buyer.
Even if they did a crazy alternate control scheme to work around the lack of touch panels, why would you want to play it like that? It's built entirely around a very specific piece of hardware - you'd got to play it on a handheld Vita to get the full experience. It's like wanting to play Wii Sports with a gamepad. *cue disgruntled motion control haters to say "damn right I'd play Wii Sports with a gamepad"*

WOW.

Completely out of left field, was not expecting an announcement of this caliber at the stream. Really amazing news.

A must-buy for me, no question.

I'm in for one at $100. Love my vita.

Hopefully no more games come out that require touch controls (except IOS ports and shit).

but...psvita tv + ps4 will let you play ps1, ps2, ps3 (gaikai next year)

Can't wait to re-buy my PS3 games and stream them with latency and artifacts.

Not.

I could see myself buying a few of these if they really work well enough for PS4 streaming. Though, I must say, I was close to buying a Vita to play the games I have gotten from PS+, but now I may not need to. I am optimistic, but after all of the things that were promised before the PS3 came out, I remain skeptical.

This box won't be a game changer until late 2014. Once Gaikai support rolls out, you will now have a $100 box capable of playing games from every Playstation era except PS4.

PS1, 2, 3, PSP, and PSV streaming.

Peopel going to be sorely dissapointed when they stream PS4 games at upscaled 720p on their secondary TV when they can play at proper 1080p on main TV.

I do hope most games coming from now on don't require the touch screen explicitly. That way this thing has 100% compatibility going forward.

or not at all because someone else is using the TV... oh wait. I'm sorry but if I'm willing to play on a vita to continue my PS4 game, I'm sure as hell willing to play at the same resolution on a big ass TV with a proper controller.

I didn't want a handheld so this seems perfect, If Nintendo offered a similar device I would buy that too. $100 bucks is a great price too. This with a ps4 seems like a great combination.

Definitely!I still want a Vita though (but with an OLED screen).

Uncharted needs the camera. That said, it should be easy enough to patch that one puzzle so that it insta-solves or something.

I see,i didn't knew Uncharted's gameplay required a camera.

Would be awesome if they could get 1080p support for ps4 remote play. Love the ethernet port!

Have to see how good the PS4 remote play work before i think about picking this up. Would be cool to be able to have a PS4 in any room of the house without moving the box.

The current list of games most probably are using the DS3 as a basis. Once DS4 comes out more games will be added thanks to the touch pad etc

There is very high chance that Sony will eventually offer gaikai streaming of PS4 game demos.

This is such a brilliant move by Sony. I'm definitely buying one. I like the Vita, but don't really have interest in another handheld device; but at the same time I am interested in a lot of Vita games. I also have a bunch of downloaded Vita content just sitting on my PS3. And then on top of that there is the streaming capability which will come in handy.
