PS VITA TV announced (~$100, Vita set top box - as in it has no screen - for TVs)

i would buy this thing if they could guarantee 100% compatibility for all games. i don't want a situation where i'm missing out on some vita title (as it is right now, uncharted & gravity rush are two games not on the compatible list) because i went for the vita-tv and not the portable.

My biggest question is how many of these am I going to buy? And is there going to be a limit on how many you can assign to one account?
As it stands I am putting one in my oldest boy's room, but I might put one in my youngest and mine IF they can all go on my psn account.

Yea it would be interesting if it still registers itself as a Vita, so in essence you only have 2 activations.

I know PSN accounts have a device limit but I don't know what's the case for the Vita. For PS3s, i think it's like 4 or 5 at any one time before you need to deactivate one. You also can go to their website and deactivate them all at once but that's only like once every 6 or so months.

Edit: According to Infinite J, it's 2 Vitas? So 2 of them active on a PSN account at any given time before you need to deactivate one. Mind you, that's being able to play all the games, not actually going online, I think.

not sure if posted

I'd like to know how it integrates into the activations on SEN. I have a PSP, Vita, PS3 and I'll obviously get this, and I'm assuming Sony wouldn't restrict you with this thing the same way as they have with PS3 if you're on your home network. The interesting thing is if you can buy a 100 dollar dongle if one of your friends has a PS4 to stream at your own house.

That 1 gig internal memory...I'm assuming that's for the OS?

Yeah we need some clarification on this. As it stands right now, Vita software can only be "activated" on one console at a time (PS3 lets you activate on two consoles at a time). It's pretty likely that this restriction will be modified if/when the Vita TV releases in the West, but its definitely something to keep your eye on for now.

It's also 2 on PS3s. It was downgraded from 5 a couple of years ago.

In the OP it says you can use the Vita as a controller, is that true, earlier it was assumed not to be the case.

No Uncharted is no problem, the game is touch-screen gimmickry at its ultimate worst, but no Gravity Rush is crazy! Why no Gravity Rush?

So if I buy this thing and play FFX/X-2 Vita versions on it on the TV, is it going to be any different than playing those games on the PS3? Will the Vita versions have lower resolution?

I know it's probably too early to know. Damn, so many questions!

The more I read about this, the more intrigued I am.

That said, I think it's a safe bet to say this will be a colossal retail failure.

That seems to be addressing the issue of people not being able to play Vita games because they needed a memory stick for saving games.

Now you should be able to play retail games without a memory stick.

IIRC it dropped to 2 PS3 for content after a specific date and also 2 portable devices.

Not sure if it meant 2 for each portable or the total is 2 so take my advice with a grain of salt

So, Uncharted uses the touch screen, right? So I can't use this to play Uncharted?

Nope.

Might be patched or they wait until the DS4

This seems both a smart idea and dumb idea at the same time. Its dumb because the games Vita has are not even selling the Vita so why would I buy this. Its smart because current Vita owners and maybe PS4 owners will buy it at $100 someone might buy it just because.

It would be smarter to call it Playstation TV instead of Vita TV too.

It's a total of 2 portables. Which means 2 PSPs or 2 Vitas or 1 PSP and 1 Vita. We don't know how activations will work with this thing.

The PlayStation TV already exists.

It's going to be worse since the vita is running at a lower res than the ps3 version will.

Ah, didn't realize that. So are they detecting model number or serial number range?

That or some other flag. That's why I'm hoping they haven't changed anything for the Vita version because importing one of these is a whole lot cheaper than a PS3...

It's for the user. Doesn't let you do too much, but at least you won't lose your interface when swapping cards.

The only way I can see that happening is if Sony doesn't address how many 'vita's' you can have tied to your main psn/+ account. Don't see how many ps4 owners and plus subscribers wouldn't adopt the vitatv @ just $100. It seems like a no brainer too me.

No Uncharted is no problem, the game is touch-screen gimmickry at its ultimate worst, but no Gravity Rush is crazy! Why no Gravity Rush?
Probably because of Gravity Slide, which requires you to touch the screen in two places. Granted, if they patch it, they could just make that move L2/R2.

This is honestly more appealing to me than a PS4 right now. PS1/Vita/PSP/indie games on a TV, holy crap. Also, this was probably answered already, but if I got this, then bought a Vita later, would I be able to just take out the memory card and put it in my Vita and have all the same games/ save files, or are they tied to the system?

So when you stream KZ:SF which is 1080p, the max you can output is 720p/1080i. Doesnt that kinda suck?

Also Im not sure what to think of this device. If they port PLEX to PSN, ill buy it. Streaming media is a must for these devices.

Pretty genius of Sony.

I'll buy one but hopefully it won't take over my PS Vita handheld. Either way more support for vita is always good and it's a bonus for people that had previously put games on the vita because it's like another console to feature on.

Great thread I had no idea this thing existed! Looks great I think I'd be interested in buying that. Will it help make the Vita more popular though is the question? Does look cool though

I have two Apple TVs and am heavily invested in the Apple Ecosystem, but I will still buy two of these if the PS4 remote play works well. Put one in my bedroom and one at work for lunch breaks. $99 is an impulse buy if it work well.

I think it will do great if the PS4 streaming works. If the PS4 game streaming is laggy or is bad quality then I dont see it doing much retail wise.
