So any words regarding releasing this thing to the West?
That's what I'm interested in too.

Why not add ps2 support? Technical difficulties I assume.
A all in one psp, ps1, ps2, and vita device should be interesting.

I asked myself the same question, and I think this is a "marketing white lie". It definitely assumes the family in the ad owns 2 Vita TV. One in the living room, and one in the kid's bedroom. The advert then flicks between the two people watching the movie they started and the kids in another room playing a game. Doesn't that suggest that you'll be able to do both simultaneously? Like I said, it could just be for advertising purposes. Multitasking? Watch to see what I mean:

I've watched the VitaTV ad a few times now and I noticed something odd. It could be just for advertising purposes, but just before the kids come in to switch the PS4 on, the mother and father use the VitaTV to watch a movie. Parents are using VitaTV to watch streaming movie [no PS4 needed, its clearly turned off] and kids are unable to game on a big screen where PS4 is located. So they move to their own room and play PS4 via Remote Play.
The PS3 can barely emulate PS2, not sure Vita could handle it.Why not add ps2 support? Technical difficulties I assume.

I think everybody got that. The question is: how many vitatv do you need to achieve this. It seems the answer is 2 (one connected to each TV), but the marketing video is not really clear about this, leading some people to believe that the vitatv is not only able to stream the parents' movie to the tv it's connected to, but also stream the ps4 content to a TV in another room (through DLNA? Airplay?).
That's where the confusion is
The PS3 can barely emulate PS2, not sure Vita could handle it.
not really a lie, you see the kids powering up ps4 even when the parents are already watching something, you can also see a VTV on the main living room. it's not assuming there are 2 VTV, it basically show that there are 2 VTV
The PS3 actually software emulates PS2 quite admirably, hacked PS3s can play most titles. The PS3 can barely emulate PS2, not sure Vita could handle it.
Indeed, same with the Indie lovefest.I think we now know the reason Vita is getting so many native ports - God of War 1+2, Metal Gear Solid 2+3, Final Fantasy X + X-2, Jak & Daxter 1+2+3, Ninja Gaiden Sigma 1+2 etc.
They want this software on this platform.
You misunderstood what I wrote. No, you need one VTV to do remote play. I don't honestly understand where there is any confusion at all. You need one Vita and one PSP to do remote play from the PS3 and one Vita to do remote play from the PS4.
[...] there is no requirement to have two VTVs to do PS4 remote play.

One is for Vita games on card, the other is for a Vita memory card. This thing seems to have a 'Vita Memory Card Slot' on the side and a 'Memory Card Slot' on the rear (assuming SD).
What's with that? I'm guessing VitaTV games require the Vita cards and movies, photos etc. can be loaded using SD. If games can be loaded using the SD card then that kinda kills any excuses they made for the proprietary memory format.
You know what they say when you assume? This thing seems to have a 'Vita Memory Card Slot' on the side and a 'Memory Card Slot' on the rear (assuming SD).

I hope we start to see more console ports now.

Would you say people should read the OP?What are you talking about? It has a Vita card slot at the side for Vita games, and a Memory Card (proprietary Vita memory cards) slot at the rear. It's just like a Vita. There's no SD.

I thought it looked silver. This is so beautiful white, why cant Sony release a white PS4 so that I could match them?
Good to hear it sold out in Japan, hopefully the demand will be great enough to bring this thing west if they are still on the boat about it. Get it done Sony!
I don't really see the purpose in this. Netflix is nice, but who really doesn't have at least a Roku by this point? Streaming PS4 games is nice, but I'd rather just save $100 and unplug my PS4 and move it to another room if I couldn't use the TV to which it was plugged in to. Considering how I take my laptop out every day, the PS4 isn't very difficult to move from one room to another. However, it definitely does look sleek. =/

Would be a great time for Star Ocean PSP and KH PSP to show up on PSN even more now, coughcough
The purpose is to offer both of those features plus local PS1/PSP/PSV/PSN games without ever having to unhook anything, for $100.
That's a pretty damn good deal. Does it have widespread implications for all the media industry? No. But it has several very legitimate angles to market itself within the video game space.
ps4 streaming works anywhere with an internet connection, not just locally on the same wifi network
this is VERY useful as an extension of the ps4 in secondary locations (office, hotel, family)
I can see vita tv enabled bravias coming in the future. That is, if sony is smart.

Third Parties will be chasing Sony then... That install base :O
I hope the Bravias have an awesome upscaler...
yeah, this is inevitable, given that smart tvs are the next big thing.
that, and bundling it with the ps4.
vita as a platform just went from "dead" to outselling psp with this strategy.
True, but I can't see myself taking it anywhere other than my home. If I'm on a vacation with friends or family, I don't expect to play video games. If I'm at work, I expect to be working.
truly spoken like a man that takes no business trips, and has no kids.
You aren't stupid, but you're definitely not speaking from experience. Of course you can find a little downtime in both those circumstances.True. I'm currently a student. I guess I'm stupid for thinking that work is conducted on "business trips" and that vacations are to spend time with friends and family, not for staring at a TV.

Oh.I said the opposite.
Reading comprehension failure on my part, they aren't going to return them. They're just going to be miffed that they're all buying the wrong Vita, and it'll lead them to not buy software for it. That makes more sense. Most people won't bother to sell the device they found out was the wrong one and then buy the right one. They'll just chalk it up to a bad experience and dock Sony's rep.

As with PS Vita, PS Vita TV will also support PS4™ remote play and Wireless Controller (DUALSHOCK® 4) through future system software update. This will allow users to enjoy most of the PS4™ games on PS Vita TV as if they are playing it on the PS4™ system.
Remote play on PS3 has had that functionality since 2006.Is remote play via internet possible with Vita TV? That would be awesome, just grab your Vita TV, connect it to the TV in your friends house and have access to your PS4.
It seems to be the case, at least the press release says that remote play will work as with PS Vita:
