DF seems to have gone to shit lately. Release week and I had no problems and a lot of good parties. Running through some lower level ones with an alt has been a hassle.

Okay so I'm getting really pissed off whenever I try to complete Brayflox. It never fails - the healer has quit on us about 4 times now without saying a word... has anyone else experienced trouble in this area?

I quit in probably 4 groups mostly due to shoddy tanks. No way the last boss was going down when the tank tried to eat every breath and left him in puddles so that I was completely oom 50% through the fight.

Not sure why in your case, maybe they just thought the group sucked because of the high damage, not realizing the damage is just way higher in Brayflox, and didn't wanna try to heal it?

Just finished Brayflox myself with a really ungrateful party. Tanking is fucking hard work, and had a terrible healer that was just letting me die several times.

Boss is a special hassle with super sudden special attack aoe, and healing pools to lead away from.
We had a bad tank that refused to move the boss out of the posion pools the first two attempts. There were moments where I'd back off as melee dps and stand for what seemed like an eternity and all the tank had to do was walk over.

Not saying tanking isn't hard, but the mechanic here isn't.

When the whole room has pools that's where placement skill is at it's highest, but he didn't move the boss on the first one and two.

Support classes are something that seems out of place in this version of the game. Support abilities are built into almost every class as it is.

What is a "real" summon?

I disagree, and for at least Summoner, even if it wasn't support, it's supposed to be about the summon. Right now it is just a straight up Warlock clone in the most blatant of ways.

Also, a real summon would be a... yknow... real....summon. What I'm trying to say is that I want ifrit, not this 18 inch tall piece of shit that floats above my shoulder. They look like toys. When playing with friends Mumble ERUPTED in laughter the first time we saw a Summoner with Titan...not a great reaction! For as good as this game is about hitting the actual Final Fantasy vibes, it's very odd that something as iconic as Summoner got butchered. (barring some design quirks, Scholar is pretty sleek, however!)

I see topics left and right bemoaning the job across the internet, so maybe someday they'll retool things a bit.

I didn't have any trouble with that instane and i tanked it like... 5 times already without a single wipe

The room is never filled everywhere, you just need to have "smart eyes" and put him in a good position, not very afar from the closest posion pool but not too close either

Later tanking just need marks to be used and followed, and everything should be ok

It most certainly can be. Its all about the tanks placement and where the other party members are standing.
If the tank doesn't place it just right and the party is a spread out then it can cover the entire room.

Never experienced that type of problem at Bray (and I've run Bray a boat load of times for the battlemage set), then again I was the healer.
The only trouble I've had at Bray has been with tanks. The dungeon is the first one where it can be the easiest walk in the park ever or the worst nightmare, based on the tank's skill.
It's also the dungeon that made me hate the majority of Paladins and love the majority of Warriors.

Wow, that was cold-blooded. In a Chimera group with a warrior tank. As soon as a Pally shouts they are looking for a Chimera group, the warrior got punted by the party leader and they invited the Pally. MMOs, srs bsns.

I read in an earlier post that people rushing AK were skipping chests, including one that gives a minion or something? Since one of my goals in the game is to get all pets, that's a sad thing for me. But yeah, bottom line for me is that I enjoy doing dungeons, and I want to see the story, and I don't want to rush my first time through. I'll gladly do stuff like that later if people want, but that first time is important to me.

You can actually get that chest while rushing, but appreciating the dungeon is understandable. I'm only a DPS, but I'll run them properly with you! And I won't even snipe your Morbol this time!

My first time in there the healer left when we arrived at the last boss which meant we had to give up. :( lol

tera online berserkers were getting kicked out of parties because they were "stealing" heavy armor from the tanks iirc lol

has yoshida or any other spokesperson acknowledged the the speed exploits in AF?

Man, I hope I can find people who are willing to run some of those 50 dungeons with me normally when I get back from my trip. The stories I've been reading about rushing and angst just make it all sound so terrible, especially for a first runthrough.

the last mission isn't so bad. most people playing it aren't going to farm stones in that zone. the mission before is farmed alot more. but even that is getting less by the day. most farmers gather in AF now.

It's been a fun game, but I decided to stop playing..just repeating dungeons over and over for loot left a bad taste on my tongue :( I can't deny that I enjoyed everything up until that part though.
I expect to eventually quit because of this. I retired from WoW for a reason.

I'm over it and AH economies. I hate reading linkshell chat where people whine about making gil.

BUT, exploring a pretty new mmo world and downing bosses with friends has been very fun. I didn't expect to play an mmo for a few years.

There is no review thread, right? I'm about to make one.

Also, I need a new laptop for school (kind of getting pressured into it, funny enough). I think I saw someone playing this one the most recent macbook air? or w/e? I don't know shit about macs. Can someone point toward the newest little apple laptop that will run this game?

EDIT: Oh, and I don't really like the token system too much. Would be less annoying if tombstones dropped from enemies at a decent rate which amounted to roughly the same amount we get now.

Maybe someone will end up changing data files around to make the real summons show up for the egis. I was actually looking forward to being a real bard for the easy invites. I'm scared of what Beastmaster will be like if they are brought to this game.

Going by summoner, scholar, and bard I'm going to guess that BST will =
*FFXI warrior style (Axe/shield)
*Pure DD, no tanking capabilities
*Abilities named after beasts (Tiger Fang, Eagle typhoon, Worm stability) :(
*Said abilities will call forth a beast shadow/ghost that match the name as the animation.
*You can lower the defense of the enemy, and cause some bleeds.
*Inner Beast Atk Up

Wow, what a jerk. Yeah I had some people whining at me that I wasn't a Warrior because I'm a Paladin.

I have more of a problem where the dungeon timer still keeps ticking when you've notified it that you're looking for someone. =/

The time limit is dumb imo. Wipes leading to learning strat and eventually killing it is what raiding in mmo's is about.

Finding a pug willing to do it together is very rare, then getting cut short is lame.

It has been exciting getting the kill during the last 10 minutes, but I'd rather not be rushed.

Wow, what a jerk. Yeah I had some people whining at me that I wasn't a Warrior because I'm a Paladin.

Maybe they experienced a lot of those Paladins that never use flash and only attack 1 target and so they start off with preconceptions. I know that whenever I get a competent Paladin from DF I feel amazed, because from my experience, it's more difficult running into a competent one from the DF.

So after getting fed up of not being able to find a copy of the game anywhere, I'm just spinning on my PC chair wondering how to pass the time until GTA V hits. I start to look through my PC collection and spot a copy of vanilla FFXIV I bought from work almost 2 years ago for a mere £2. I remember playing it for about an hour before never playing it again because of how buggy the game was. I then said to myself.....

"I wonder if 1.0 players can somehow play Realm Reborn?"

A quick google search revealed that.....yes, yes they can. The game is even free for them, all they have to pay for is the subscription. After remembering my Square login details I also discover that I have 7 days of free playtime on the account as a 1.0 player as well as a free gift (fantasia, whatever that is)

Game is currently downloading

I hate the fact that regular ol' dungeons have timers. And it still keeps counting down if somebody drops out or disconnects. :/

What is the point of it anyway?

I'm fine with SMNs as they are currently, especially compared to the awful XI Summoners. Pet jobs in MMOs tend to be way too hard to balance and do correctly if the focus is almost 100% on them. This form is far better and the pet is fairly buff and very usable. Damage from it is solid and the master has lots of stuff they can still do.

I wouldn't be opposed to them getting higher-tier summons in patches but I think it's fine for now. Plus, I'd rather not have everyone running around with these big pets.

It is the first time you really need to use Esuna if you are a WHM. Lots of armor debuffs on the tank and poisons.

I am trying to get my THM to 26 for the instant cast ability and the tanks in some of these dungeons are unbearable. Telling you to attack their target when they are switching targets constantly, I told them to mark and they tell me no, just do my job. The healer, the other dps and myself are all tanking mobs every pull while they are fumbling around chasing after pulled mobs. Then they bitch me out for doing a boss correctly with some elitist diatribe. I just bailed.

They sucked unless they could exploit the part of the game that made other classes suck. Rather poor design overall.

When I say slow ramp up I mean from level one, not being able to find parties, being a gimp white mage, and for owning I mean endgame use, being geared out, having a good spot for parties. Ninja blink tanking would be bad design too if the honest smn still was a exploit. BSTs using better worth while jug pets to tank stupid stuff with -Physical Damage Taken gear in abyssea (a place they can't charm stuff) also a exploit.

wat

double wat

SMN for pretty much most of XI's life span was terrible. Bad damage, mostly awful support aside from several specific usages, and no native abilities other than the summon commands. They even drain your damn MP you use your skills. It's dreadfully stupid.

They got far better as the game went on and around now they're pretty solid but still has the same problems most pet jobs have compared to other jobs in it. An unfortunate problem with the dynamics of XI's game systems.

On the other hand, XIV's summoners have a damn good base to work with. Lots of master abilities and the pet is balanced enough to be viable in combat. They could focus more on the pet as the game goes on because they'd actually have something they could work from.

In FFXI summoner had a slow ramp up, but boy did they totally own FFXI at the end.

Still had to languish for ages just like PUP and BST, man. So shitty =(

We used SMN a lot to begin with. They were solid, especially when they got 2 abilities per minute. Maybe your LS didn't like them? /shrug :P

SMN in this game is... well... I'll leave it at that.

People liked FFXI Summoners? :o At least when I played, they were glorified healers for the leveling process, and then in the end game, they would be used on some of the HNMs doing their special moves every minute or so, lol.

Endgame SMN can be very valuable, especially for specific fights, like burning AV down (Astral flow Alexander for perfect defense that should last his short life), also they are good damage dealers with the summons. I think they are better than BST solo now, nice selection of subs to use with 99 cap I bet.

can we get that poll removed?

Yeah it's quite large ha.

I've decided not to make the review thread yet, since few major publications have added their input. I'll wait until at least one major one writes a review.

Which job melds materia, and at what level? I just started the Relic quest.

I have someone who can make it for me, but I don't mind leveling a job up.

Worst experiences for me is during primal fights. It's either:

A. Someone leaves before the fight even starts... Most likely cuz they didn't like the party make up...

B. people just end up fighting because someone insulted another about sucking at dodging a move...

C. The worst would be people arguing and no one wants to leave because the first one to go gets the 15 min duty finder cooldown penalty...

One time some paladin abused this and afk'ed during Titan fight to make breakfast for 15 mins... Party didn't want to leave and there was already an argument about a scholar who just didn't want to listen and began to screw the group over by intentionally dying..

When paladin came back.. We did a try that the scholar hijacked.. After wipe paladin says he's gonna afk again while he eats his breakfast...

The whole time, people were arguing...

Needless to say it was a horrible hour and a half..

Another note, apparently starting from Titan fight, gear becomes crucial for DD's as you need to have high enough damage output win.
This has been a cause for argument most of the time..

Maybe they don't want people either getting stuck or AFK'ing in dungeon instances. Considering the issues earlier last week that people were having with the instance server/s being full, I think it's not too crazy.
