fap, nom, mad, feels, "brown people", trollface, sheeple, perjorative use of "hipster", hyperbolic shock that people sometimes drink carbonated soft drinks and eat fast food

Not just here, all of the internet.

QUOTING IMAGES FOR SIZE HOLY SHIT STOP DOING THAT
Wat. Why? It's convenient and it gives people the option of sizing up an image with a single click. Where's the disadvantage?

Regurgitating vaguely old-fashioned pleasantries is basically the text equivalent of wearing a suit jacket over a t-shirt. What's humorous about adding "fine sir" to a post?
Either it amuses you or it doesn't. It amuses me.

Probably the only one that annoys me is when people post #DEAD. What the hell does it even mean...

deady4svx.png

People who use "Coli smileys".

A celebrity or possibly well-known person did something:

"Am I supposed to know who this is?"
"Who?"

Potentially controversial news article:

"How is this news?"
"Why is this a big deal?"
"Why did this need a thread?"

People polarizing a conversation as "those so offended" vs everyone else. I just wanna say "lol gross" without someone thinking it's "outrage", fuck.

"this", "I can't even", and "smh" and the dismissal type posts sometimes people do.

Plus I hate when people don't read the OP or instantly get outraged over a single point and don't really read through the posts or thread.

People who make huge assumptions about other posters from the smallest of pieces of information...
A: "I don't like strawberries."
B: "Well I guess that means you're a bitter old fuck who hates happiness and wallows in the misery you cause on a daily basis by your petty refusal to enjoy strawberries. People like you make me sick."

saying "kind sir" "good sir" or "you're a gentleman and a scholar" or any of that kind of thing in every post/status/email/whatever in response to anyone else.

Aren't you a humorless chap.

Mods who perma ban without reason.

First thing in terms of service:
A. NeoGAF operates under a closed membership policy. Membership is granted or refused based solely on the judgment of the administration and is not a right. Membership can be revoked at any time for any reason. Each accepted member is granted one, and only one, username. If you are caught using multiple usernames, you will be subject to immediate and permanent banning of all accounts involved.

So, uh, no, it's not for "no reason"

Ending titles with a periodd . It's a title, it shouldn't have a period.
Completely nitpicky but one I hate seeing regardless of where it is are people who put a space between a title and a colon.

Example:

Star Wars : A New Hope

When it's supposed to be:

Star Wars: A New Hope

It's a personal gripe, yes, but one that just sets me off for some reason.

We are aware that this is a problem and have taken a few measures to try to lower the number of threads that have titles like this. You should notice an improvement on a go-forward basis.

I'm definitely guilty of making the "So..." threads. I didn't realize that it was such an annoyance :(

I guess I did that because it's how I would usually start telling a story to someone. I guess it doesn't transition that well to a message board.

Life is too short to care about what people on the internet say/do...

You are all a-ok in my book.

If I disagree with you / annoyed by you, I just stop reading and scroll down.

No harm, no foul, just don't be surprised if the "So..." gets removed from your thread titles :p

Either it amuses you or it doesn't. It amuses me.

Because:

A. The forum resizes images by default to fit the size of your window.
B. Quoting an image makes images too small, especially bad if it has text. So you click it, but then it becomes really big, often making it very hard to view on a vertical monitor because it tends to extend past the boundaries of your monitor and unfortunately doesn't activate the horizontal scroll bar either, so you're fucked. At least with a non-quoted image it's a decent, legible size from the start.

The forum by default resizes images and does a really good job at doing so. Please understand.

If I was still a mod I would probably go around unquoting images all over the forum like an OCD madman.

Have you seen Titanfall
The feel of X
The infinite power of the cloud
please understand
please be excited

YOU ARE NOT BEING CLEVER PLEASE STOP FOR THE LOVE OF $(DEITY)

If you post a YouTube link without any explanation of what it is, I'm not clicking on it.

I'm aware that I have done this in a recent thread, but I tried to get the url wrapped inside proper code blocks and it didn't parse correctly, and it was the first reply, so I didn't want to keep editing it in case the prior post was quoted.

Also:
That strapper who posts PEACE after every post.

I know he's probably a millionaire with a dime piece wife, but c'mon man.
and then later in the thread:
Not a single person has said

"People who sign their own posts with their name, or some other bullshit word"?

Drives me crazy.

PEACE.
People who don't read the thread before posting in it, particularly doing so with a preface of "nobody else said". Read, then post.

Otherwise, yes, all posters who add signatures are on my ignore list. Repeatedly writing and reading the same words is a waste of time. Stop doing it. Stop being wasteful.
hey man pimpwerx is alright :(
I'm sure he's a fine person, but I have no time to read the posts of people who waste their time and mine by constantly repeating the same thing in every post.

Only thing that bothers me really on gaming side are the "lets have a 16 page thread on something stupid a PR guy said" and posting Forbes contributor articles and other blogs with click bait articles as if they are news.. Sends to set a bad tone off the bat that leads to a more console war style thread/people attacking ignorant statements by the author/PR guy rather then talking about what may actually be a legitimate issue in a constructive way. Tends to just start out with a bunch of low content posts and GIF's too.

Off topic (and my biggest peeve on this forum ) I really dislike the threads people post like "I had a great poop today, how was yours?", "Tell me your poop stories GAF", "I took my first poop *here*". Whats wrong with those people?

Posting wise I dislike #dead or "I'm weeping", "please understand", and people that have to have a signature at the end of every post.

Faux outrage and phony outrage are personal favorites.
That's the exact kind of dismissive shit that Devo is talking about, though. (I think.)

Edit : Oh wait, are you saying you think it's funny/stupid when people use those phrases seriously?

Eh, it's habit. The forum didn't resize images until the redesign, right?

dismissal tupe post where one person states an argument and the other will respond with "you have no idea what you are talking about" it's so needlessly hsotile and condescending that I just stop reading the thread.

The "GAF hivemind" thing and its obnoxious corollary:

"NeoGAF: statement X
NeoGAF: contradictory statement Y

lol NeoGAF you're such a hypocrite lol lol"

it's been posted before, but: posting a picture without text and expecting everyone to understand what the picture is about.

and my #1 pet peeve is people posting in a thread who clearly haven't even tried to read the link/watch the video posted in an OP. should be temp-bannable.

Faux outrage and phony outrage are personal favorites.

These often appear in threads involving people who don't know what censorship is ranting about attempted censorship, and then when confronted with the definition of censorship claim that criticism still counts as censorship because of reasons that make no sense. Which is also maddening.

These are the big ones at the moment:

#dead
Icant

And the top one, quoting large walls of text for a single word reply.

How dare you. Those are my go to maneuvers!

Giving unnecessary advice when nobody asked for it
Referring to GAF to having one specific opinion
B-b-bu
'Devil's Advocate' arguments AKA I love to argue

Completely nitpicky but one I hate seeing regardless of where it is are people who put a space between a title and a colon.

Star Wars : A New Hope

It's the normal practice in my language so I don't mind.

There are quite a few things that can annoy me, but watching two posters who (more or less) agree with each other have a slapfight because they're too focused on scoring points to actually read what the other person is saying is certainly up there.

The "GAF hivemind" thing and its obnoxious corollary:

"NeoGAF: statement X
NeoGAF: contradictory statement Y

I have a bad habit of referring to GAF as a general entity, as if everyone thinks the same thing. There's some trends and highly represented demographics / attitudes / politics / biases here, but not everyone thinks the exact same thing, obviously.

And yeah, that other stuff bugs the hell out of me, too.
