Hivemind accusations bullshit is also very tiresome because without fail the thread is filled with contradictory opinions (duh).

Using the term "GAF hivemind" or referring to GAF as a single entity to insult or disparage a group of people's opinions in a thread. You're posting here as well so don't think you're an exception.

That's what I came in here to say. People who go...

"You think it's going to fail? Oh, I forgot, NeoGAF is always wrong."
"How is it NeoGAF was telling me this game was soooo great, but I played it and it sucked?"

...are seriously the worst. Completely incapable of thinking for themselves or defending their own positions.

Hoo-Doo said:
"Get out of here, LOGIC and REASON have no place in this thread. Hurr durr."

It's such a cheap, cheap way to avoid actually discussing something but still post.

This is another great one. I also see it all the time with fanboys who wade into a discussion with an inflammatory comment and then when someone calls them on it and puts out a detailed response that eviscerates the idea, that fanboy will just wait a bit until one of their fellow fanboys comes around and actually puts some effort into their post, and then just do something like you said or simply put "THIS, SO MUCH THIS."

It's so easy to tell when someone is incapable of defending their own thoughts.

guy posts a thread where he says he's just watched the first episode of show X, people post gifs from all other seasons and discuss episodes without spoiler tags. I mean what the fuck.

Also qouting the post below you.
Yeah, untagged spoilers are the worst. How hard is it to highlight some text and hit the spoiler button?

people who always post like this

with no capitalization or punctuation

what is wrong with them

its not quirky or cool its stupid

It has been mentioned in this thread a bunch but I want to say it myself because it will make me feel better. The copycat posting sucks. People not reading a thread and just throwing in a cliche joke sucks.

I usually try to play it somewhat straight around here and contribute to a thread in a way to create more conversation. Its often all for not though, because the rest of the thread gets filled like a dirty diaper with everyone echoing each others shitty comments like bleatling sheep.

Fucking animal avatars piss me off Like oh wow cool you're a dog I don't care

I almost lost spat up my drink all over myself as I slowly turned to look at your avatar after reading that.

'/thread' & 'and we're done', because of their dismissive tone. 'The discussion is over - I have spoken'.

People who quote their own posts because no one was paying attention.

'So basically X' in a discussion about Y, when X & Y are unrelated.

The only sig that annoyed me was 'DarkMage666' or something who used to sign off 'The Dark One'.

- "PSA" in topic titles
This only grew popular in the last few weeks and I don't understand why.

- "grow the fuck up"
Yes, telling other people to grow up while cursing yourself is absolutely not hypocritical at all.

Posting pictures or screenshots without any caption or indication from which game/show/movie it is, in any topics like "best graphics ever" or "most dramatic scenes in movies". Please just throw a quick caption above or below the picture.

You're not a man, though!

I concede.

I hate you cucumberbatch! You ruined Star Trek!

Quoting a later post and responding to it in a previous post that is not the OP should be bannable

"Coli Smilies"

Not proof reading thread titles and letting stupid mistakes get through.

Thread feels like I'm being picked on. Need an etiquette handbook to survive here now? K, I'll join in on the hate. I hate the *first post* ritual. Mostly because I'll never be quick or clever enough to partake in it :(

I hate people who post this image:

It should be banned like some of the other memes. Everytime I see it I just get angry even if it's something I agree with. Something about that image just sets off a fire inside me.

I think I found my soulmate.

I 100% agree. What an extremely bland opinion this image states. You're ok with something? So you have no strong opinion? Wow, thanks for that insight friend, I'm glad to know your utmost indifference. Even the art in the picture is inoffensive and generic.

I hate drive-by hate posters. They just make one post "lol this gaem suxors" and then they just abandon the thread, they don't explain their views even when people ask them to. It's like the thread is dead to them once they've made their drive-by.

Saying dat instead of the word that

Dat salt.

OPs who make a thread and then abandon it for hours or a day with no posts and then come back like OH I WENT TO THE LOCAL CARNIVAL LOL..fuck you.

My new most hated thing is when someone makes a thread and it happens to be a duplicate of another thread that has sunk a few pages down (or perhaps is even a few months old) and some wise ass will go and make a stupid, pointless comment in the old thread just to bring it to the front page to passively shame the OP of the new thread.

"You, sir..."

Also, the words "logic and reasoning." Not the actual application of them, but just saying them to make yourself look smarter than you obviously aren't.

Another, if I may: when people post pictures (movie/game scenes, people, etc) without a caption or title. I'm always too ashamed to ask when I can't recognize something.

It bugs me when people post without saying anything. A good example is any post where the person simply quotes another post and then says

".", or
"This."

or some variation of that. If your opinion matches theirs so perfectly that you can copy it word for word, you really don't need to post. In fact, you shouldn't post.

edit: Also, I realize now that I have probably done this in the past. Oops. BUT THAT DOESN'T MAKE IT OK

"First post nails it" has already been mentioned, but I'm gonna mention this specific moment:

There was a thread about how The Last Of Us was surprisingly popular in Japan. The first post was

A game about protecting a little girl is popular in Japan you say?

The first ten pages after that were filled with "dat first post!", "you sir, win the the internet for today!", "#dead" and other inane shit like this.

I mean, the premise of the thread was pretty interesting, but instead we got pages and pages of filler congratulating a poster to his "HAHA JAPANESE MEN ARE PERVERTS amirite?" racist bullshit. This made me quit GAF for the day because it irritated me so much.

It's been mentioned already, but by far the worst is the hivemind bullshit that leads to people with differing views being piled on with insults and stupidity to no end, since being on majority side apparently gives to a free pass to do so.

A close second is "I could care less".

The funny thing about this is that the majority of examples I have seen were completely justified, since the perpetrator was indeed saying something worthy of being made fun of.

...and we had a thread recently where somebody seriously tried to argue that since language is always in flux, "I could care less" means the same as "couldn't care less" because so many people use it that way and that we should stop being such grammar nazis.

Only peasants can't appreciate lamb and if you don't think There Will Be Blood is art from the heavens go watch Transformers.

Even if I'm editing a new edition of Mein Kampf?

Not reading the article on a post, and replying.
This is a huge issue here, especially with most in the gaming side making threads with misleading titles.

I kind of disagree with this. Requiring everyone to click just gives the site a huge amount of views, sometimes with cheap tactics. Or posters simply do not have the time to read through everything and choose only the most interesting articles.

In the old times, before Internet, people told their friends what they've read. I think such paraphrasing and quoting is still good enough today. It's not others' fault if the OP does it badly.

Ending a question with ", No?".

"I thought he was happy, no?"

It reminds me so much of South Park when the vampire-kids goes "Per-se" at the end of almost every sentence.

Posting the phrases "bomba" and "SHOCKING NEWS" in either titles of threads or posts. When you're serious or not.

Annoys me so much. Especially bomba; it's not cool!
