Video: White store manager follows black teens around a store

Whatever. I got followed around the store once when i was younger and with a couple of friends. And we we are all white.

Kids steal shit sometimes.

I assume there are other videos of him not following around white teens? Because otherwise in this case, there's nothing to really pull from it. He could be one of those that follows any teens around.

I know the issue exists, but not sure if this can really be seen as an incident of it.

There is nothing in that video to indicate white v black. Shop manager v teenagers; definitely. Perhaps it's those claiming racism who are stereotyping.

Me too, and we were stealing, and white. Why were these kids slowly shuffling around the store awkwardly filming themselves.

And if there were a gang of hoody-wearing white kids in the shop he probably would've followed them. I don't see how America can get over their race issues if people keep playing the race card for every non-issue.

If I was a shop owner I'd follow annoying teenagers around too if I had nothing better to do.

Plus that selfie filming screams they're gonna do some milk-gallon bursting idiot prank.

Having worked for this company I would say there are a few other things that make them stand out that have nothing to do with the color of their skin.

The video is posted in March and Publix stores all in the south and they are wearing jackets so with it probably being hot outside probably looks a bit off. Also it is two high school aged kids and I can tell you from experience that sometimes at that age kids just don't give a fuck and they will steal stuff.

I'm willing to bet it's more because they're kids and acting suspicious in a retail store, not because they're black and acting suspicious in a retail store. Back in my retail worker days I used to do this to anyone who was randomly walking the aisles looking like they were gonna steal shit.

Yeah, sorry, not an indication of racism. I'm the most average-looking skinny white dude ever who never dresses in anything but jeans and a t-shirt, and I've been followed around plenty in certain stores that don't think I'm what their typical clients dress like. Never stole anything, never weirdly filmed myself like these folks, and I still knew I was being watched. Mostly happened in various clothing stores. That's a part of retail. Sorry, kids, not everything is racism.

Back when I worked in a store, we occasionally followed people we knew were stealing around.

We never confronted anyone unless we were 100% positive though.

I guess if those kids had been seen stealing, or been caught before it makes sense....
If not, well....

Dunno.

I'm white and I've had this happen to me before.

I remember I once walked into an Albertson's, looked through their alcohol section and couldn't find what I want so I walked out to go to the drug store in the same shopping center. When I got outside Alberton's, guy followed me and then asked me "is everything okay?" and I responded "yeah, everything's fine." and I told him I was going to the CVS next door because they didn't have what I wanted at Albertson's.

This being white and decently dressed and as an adult.

cause it is 2013, despite Obama being president. This shit still happens.

You're jumping to conclusions. I work in a store and if we ever do something like that it's because they have been acting suspicious. Just because one guy is white and one is black doesn't mean OMG RACISM!

in GA many people wear hoodies in March. i thought it was weird to be wearing a jacket in 50F because i lived in NYC for over a decade, but lots of people wear 'em. hell, some people wear 'em in August and it's hot as fuck!

I'm sure it has more to do with age, my friends and I were followed around stores by undercover security when I was younger and I'm not black. Good job on securities part in my case considering my friends were stealing.

So if a black store manager follows white teenagers around is it racism then? Or.. is he following them around because he suspects they might steal something.

hey minorities aren't keeping racism going.

Good planning. Makes me think of Don't Be a Menace.

"hey, hey! wait......you dropped something" haha that scene always makes me laugh

honestly i would follow any teenager if i owned a store, especially if a lot come in, i knew some guys in high school that would steal at near closing since it was dark outside and you could run and disappear. right near the high school too so im surprised they never were caught

Worked at a grocery store. Any time teenagers came in, the management would get very sketched out. Didn't matter the skin color. When a group of kids come in to a store, we often had alcohol stolen. Never had a manager personally walk around and follow them. But they would tell those cleaning the floors (or working the aisles), to keep an eye on them.

Not speaking for this video though. Don't know the manager.

hey minorities, don't talk about racism until it's 100% confirmed by independent non-racist white people

Oh, come on. Don't be silly.

I did not imply or mean anything of the sort.

That said, feel free to play the race card as you wish. It won't help in the long run.

FWIW, calling out bogus race card plays is not for white people only.

It's not racist if it's true. You may or may not regularly break the law (where'd you get a camera phone?) but statistically most of your homies do. He has a business to protect.

This shit infuriates me to no end.

If that was Walmart, well mine, you'd have a big black guy and a hispanic guy following you around.

In plainsclothes.

Cause we heavy like that.

Oh yes, I remember that during my training. And I worked in a rather posh white area. It's not a skin colour thing, it's just annoying teens.

What I see in this video is a loss prevention agent who is absolutely terrible at his job. You should never openly stalk customers like that. I mean, he should have even been able to tell that they were recording him.

teens shoplift, especially if their parents don'T give them any allowances.

I shoplifted when I was teen, I got caught one time and stopped after that

It must be nice. I'm a black attorney in his 30s and get followed once a week.

Shoutout to the Chinese owned liquor store that had their 18yr old kid chaperone over my shoulder at every aisle. lol since then I have earned that stores trust.
