Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS Thread 2: Where Pilotwings is apparently Minecraft

I'd be a little disappointed if we don't get at least 3.Marth, Chrom and someone else.

I hope for Marth, Roy, and Chrom but I doubt it. It would be more likely to be triple blue swordsmen.

Alright some comments seem to be out of lines. Just remind people to keep themselves in check.

A magic user, or an axe wielder, would be much more interesting than another swordsman. Marth has got that on lock down, we need a Fire Emblem rep with a different weapon.

the 3rd fire emblem rep always stumps me, I want roy back, but I think lyn should be the 3rd rep, she is probably one of the most popular lords thanks to being in the 1st fire emblem game in america and she was an assist trophy in brawl, but then people bring up that it would be good to have a magic user to also represent fire emblem, so now I think tharja would also be a good choice.

Tharja would be way more interesting than Chrom. I expect the lord pattern to continue though.

Pokemon runs on Eastern mythology

Kinda. Arceus is very much a representation of a "creator" which takes many faces in many different religions, and could just as easily be interpreted as the Abrahamic God.

The powers he imbued in the Lake Trio could be interpreted as omniscience, omnipresence and omnibenevolence, which are all traits that only God in Abrahamic religion possesses, which could be read as them being avatars of a sort. At the same time you can look at them as representing the Imperial Regalia of Japan. They're pretty malleable.

I've pretty much gone on the record a few times talking about what an ideal FE rep list would look like. The TL;DR is Marth as the headliner, Chrom + Lucina as the "current hotness" and also to play up both the duo units mechanic (and significance) in FE:Awakening as well as to further play with the idea of two as one and a pick between Anna or Tharja for the third rep.

Anna's a cool pick because someone enlightened me on the idea that she fights with a number of magic weapons and I crave some over the top magic in Smash on top of bringing enough fun character gimmicks (a bag of profits she adds to by landing enough B moves that gets swung around for as her smash attacks?) and series relevance. On the other hand Tharja's pretty cool for a pure magic type at the cost of making some folk think flavor of the month influences things too strongly.

Yet even while liking this idea, I definitely see the appeal in keeping Ike, bringing back Roy and making Lyn playable. I just hope that FE as a franchise isn't just a swordsperson factory when all is said and done.

Some good ideas

Smash is a Nintendo cocktail so it shouldn't be surprising when this thread vomits a variety of Nintendo chunks.

Right, because Tharja is pretty inconsequential to the series. You could kill her and hardly even notice. The only non-lord that could possibly deserve the honor of representing the entire series is Anna.

Besides, I'd like some variety instead of having Marth appear along side a bunch of people from the latest game.

Fire Emblem Rep is always made up of: Marth + whoever is the current Lord.

I also feel like the series deserves a third rep and I think the idea of a Chrom + Lucina tag team of sorts to be something pretty awesome but it'd be hard to implement it in a interesting way that isn't just Ice Climbers with swords.

For a third rep there's a lot to choose from honestly. Roy could count as a returning vet character, then we have Lyn/Hector/ or Eliwood seeing as they represent the portable side and the first English FE lords. They all can have some unique movesets given their classes and different weapon usage. Seliph/Sigurd apparently is the lord that a lot of people in Japan seem to like and they both can use Lances with the addition of Sigurd being a mounted unit so that would be interesting to see as well. They could also use Ike again but he wouldn't have any reason aside from being a returning vet. For a magician the only one that makes sense is Micaiah given that she was an actual protagonist and important to her game's story (As much as I share the Tharja love she isn't important at all guys only a fan favorite).

I think a fun thing to do would be somebody that implements the series' trademark weapons triangle into their combat style.

Oops forgot about Anna, she would be pretty cool too or Jake (I think that's what her male counterpart's name is correct?)

I'm still foolishly hoping for the magical day Leif shows up using his Master Knight skills and slinging around lances, tomes, axes, and bows in addition to some of his unique skills as a main character like capturing people.

Tharja wouldn't have the responsibility of representing anything other than her game when Marthio is there to be the face of the series as a whole. I don't necessarily like the Fire Emblem trend, but there definitely seems to be one based off how characters have been included in Smash so far, and playing by those rules that I expect to be repeated, I think Tharja would be a more realistic option. But whatever, we are most likely getting Chrom anyway.

So I guess hoping for Donnel and his pot covered head isn't gonna end well for me is it. I'd love Tharja because I've never been a fan of the other FE reps in the Smash games for whatever reason, just feel super slow and clunky to me.

Anyone besides Chrom would be a treat. Marth will be there to represent the series and the lords so I would rather the other choice be more adventurous.

Arceus's creator motif is Eastern though, where it only creates, but couldn't care less on what its creations do.

Every time someone complains about the Direct it gets delayed. So I wish they'd just hurry up and announce it already!

He creates beings with free will, he watches and passes judgment from afar, he condemns one of his creations to the closest thing the Pokemon world has to a hell for eternity and he only gets involved when necessary.

His representation in the movie does err more on the side of Eastern mythology, but he's loose enough to represent any creator.

It's funny how he past two weeks there has been a lot more traffic/postings on the weekend when there aren't screenshots and we don't have much to speculate on.

Really shows how much we need some quality screenshots with some new info

Im late but based on what people been posting, were we supposed to be getting a Direct or something? Or are people just overly anxious?

this is tgs week, which means nintendo will have their conference/direct, they dont go to tgs, rather they have their own thing they setup, either it be a conference, or the past few years, of it being a direct. in 2011 they announced monster hunter triG fand monster hunter 4 for 3DS, in 2012 they announced bayonetta 2 and monster hunter tri ultimate for wiiU and U.S, we're waiting for them to announce their conference/direct this year.

Awakening is the only FE game I've played and I've recently gone back to my old save file and I keep thinking how nice it'd be if Anna was added to the roster.

She appears in every Fire Emblem title, has charm and personality, and would be a great representative of the series as a whole, not just a "flavour of the month" character. I'm also someone who really advocates any possible females that could be added to the roster.

Her fighting style, in which she wields her sword backwards could be utilised to further differentiate from the existing sword-users, as well as integrating things like bags of money, throwing axes/lances, or her showing healing abilities.

I would expect Awakening will be represented in character form somehow - probably Chrom, but I enjoyed using Ike too. Maybe Chrom could inherit Ike's moveset, if not only some of it.

I want a direct announced during a direct that will happen directly after another direct.

I don't want anyone jacking Ike's style. It is like Tony Danza moonwalking in hammer pants, it just isn't legit.

Everything checks out. THERE IS A DIRECT TOMORROW EVERYBODY!! HYPE THE UNIVERSE!!

GIEZ IS THERE A DIRECT TODAY

You must have missed it. It was amazing. Iwata was juggling bananas, burning chainsaws, Reggie, and Miyamoto while announcing Persona 5 and GTA6 as Wii U exclusives.

Sakurai also announced that he had been joking about a 2014 release date for Smash and that it was actually being released this holiday season.

Retro is also working on a new IP. Mario Kart 8 has already been downloaded for free to your Wii Us while you were reading this post.

Even joking about a direct is like poking a wasp nest with your face. Jeez.

Infact, Nintendo of Europe, Japan and America has just announced a Post-TGS direct focusing on "upcoming Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo Wii U titles for 2013 and 2014".

Times are as following:

3pm GMT for EU
10am PST for US
??? for JP
